Ford owned stock on Mazda back then , but the NC 's engine is originally Mazda's. The MZR engine name stands for: MaZda Responsive. While it was used in many Ford products, the design is originally Mazda's. I've owned an NC2 for a year now, and I adore it. If anything, I'd say it is the British roadster done right. The power retractable hard top makes the car look so slick, and I love how simple it is in function. The NC is really a mini RX-8, and it is heavily criticized for it. Ford didn't allow Mazda to build the NC from the ground up, and instead made them transform the RX-8's chasis into the NC's. I personally love to drive a lightened convertible RX-8, so I have no complains about it. This car is fun from the moment you start it to the time you park it.
In my youth, I fell in love with British sports cars. Wish I’d had more money then, as I would’ve bought more of them. As it is, I owned two MGBs and an MGA. There was a look, a feel, a smell, a sound to those cars that Mazda never really replicated. But they did improve on the basic open top, two-seater and give it the reliability that Morris Garage never could. They literally revived this model of car. I’m in love, once again. I mean, I drove an NA for 25 years and 386,000 miles, and I’m thrilled with my 2015 Club.

Really enjoyed the video despite Fords involvement in Mazda. I think the NC Hardtop is the best MX5 ever made.

Having owning and driving a RX8 myself and NC being closely related in chassis and suspension design, the NC is actually very good and has great driving dynamics!

Well done honest video. When I bought my NC five years ago,prices were low because of all the negative comments spread by haters of the NC. Now that reasonable people like yourself and others have pointed out the merits of the NC, the prices have gone way up. I think the styling will become classic in time because everything today is so generic. Enjoy that real hard top convertible. The ND RF is not a true convertible!
Just bought a 08 prht MT for $4200. Rebuild. Needs work but runs and drives great. Na beat up goes for 4K+ loving the nc platform so much I don’t care about na nb.Own those 2 as well

Bought a Black NC2 Kendo edition PRHT yesterday for all the same reasons you did. It is completely solid and the most fun. I say this after owning an M2, Jag XES, Audi TT Quattro S-Line, Cupra 290 Nissan 370 Nismo stage 2. The little MX is just so analogue. You have to try it really. Nothing like it. Surprised me how much power it has on the motorway. You have to rev it hard of the slipway but once you are up to speed, it just peels out brilliantly up to 80 and above, even in fifth gear. Very high revving little engine. Lot of fun. Planning to lower the springs and add the BBR200 kit. It will be perfect then.

Honestly love this video. Growing up, I always wanted to buy a Miata (what they’re called in the US?) because it’s a cheaper, powerful car. I don’t know if I’ll ever end up living my dream of picking one up as it’s not pragmatic for me now, but super happy for you that you have this opportunity!

Mines the exact same colorway as yours. The paint is Highland green and they only sold them in that color between 2008/9 making it quite rare, good buy!

The MX5 NC looks slick. It would look nice with some modifications like a spoiler and some nice side skirts.
Amazing car , I could not have made a better decision to buy one. It’s always nice to see videos praising the same points I like myself. Great natural video. Mine recently had a problem with the throttle, it suddenly stops responding, until I restart the car. I think it must be something with the electronics. If someone had this problem don’t hesitate to share !

Something I’ve discovered, having owned a 2008 GT PRHT and, currently, a 2015 Club edition, the earlier NCs (particularly PRHTs) had lots of body roll. The Club has a stiffer suspension sitting on Bilsteins with traction control. You can push it a lot harder than a PRHT.
The PRHT has nothing to do with the suspension! You can get a club version with the PRHT. It's very easy to improve any NC's handling with aftermarket shocks,springs and sway bars.
@@wg5768 Hmm, I may have spoken beyond my knowledge. Simply put, I had a GT PRHT that had a rather soft suspension. The Club I just bought, OTOH, has a really fun suspension. Thanks for the response.
I’ve had my nc for about 8/9 months now I love it but I do wish we have more options in aftermarket parts but other then that it’s perfect

As a kid I was conditioned to hate the Mazda MX5 because it was the only affordable car in Gran Turismo 3 career mode and had to grind the boring speedway for hours in order to buy a Mustang.

It's great that you have gotten more into cars and you are enjoying your NC! I want a MX-5 one day but I am not sure if I'll go for the ND or the GR86/new BRZ.
BRZ/86 looked really nice but I couldn't let go of the idea of open top driving videos

I have an ND I love mine. Would have gotten the NC, but here in the US the price difference was 3k.

I drive a gun metal grey 2014 MX 5 NC. A ten second car. It came out of the box race ready with Le Mans paddle shifters on the steering wheel. Every time I drive it I'm in a James Bond movie. When people see it they ask, 'does it have machine guns behind the fog lights?' The license plate reads 009. It's definitely licensed to kill. Does a 'Tokyo drift' nicely.

Same reason I got my NC to pair with my 2017 civic SI coupe. The RF would’ve been great but this after GT example that I found was 7K even with the crazy market. So my 3 season car note is the same as my cell phone bill

I just bought a 2015 gt hard top. What part of Japan do you live in? I was stationed in Misawa about 30 years ago, loved my time there.

That color is nice. Miatas are cool, but im 6'4". Never sat in one but cant imagine it wouldn't be fun.
Tried to drive a friend's '85 vette and my knees wouldnt fit under the dash.
I’ve heard the NC is the easier of the miatas to fit in for tall people

I’m 178cm and the NC fits me just right. I’ve heard that of the 4 models the NC is best for taller people. At 183cm you’ll probably also fit it well. Def worth sitting in one at a dealer somewhere

I'm 1.90m and that's the limit for the NC. I lowered the chair about 3cm and that's a lot better. My son is 1.95m and that's more of a problem. The ND is impossible, so have to stick with the NC. Strangely the prices of 2012 NC's here are about the same as 2015 ND's.
I suspect a lot of NB and NC owners wanted a ND, but came to the conclusion: I just don't fit.
It's a 2.0 softtop, H&R spacers, Bilstein, Eibach lowered and sway bars on 215/45/17.

No that's just the model designation for each generation.
NA = Generation 1
NB = Generation 2
NC = Generation 3
ND = Generation 4

I'm curious as to what your occupation is...where you need to pick people up in a one passenger vehicle no less and no cargo space for going to and from airports...And occasionally needing to pick up milk from a store for someone?? Miatas/MX-5's/Eunos Roadsters are relatively inexpensive.
Miata's are pretty affordable compared to a lot of other options. Brand new they are about as much as any other Sedan class vehicle depending on features.

I actually almost bought an NB Miata recently, but ultimately decided against it. I like MX-5's/Miatas, but it's not my favorite Japanese sports car, so I'd be settling and spending a lot of money on something I don't have as much enthusiasm about compared to something like a Honda S2000.
S2000 £15k-£20k, a good performer but as ugly as sin. MX5 £5k + suspension and BBR tuning attention £5k-£10k, and you have an attractive sports car as good as the honda any day. Cheaper spares and running costs too I would expect.

As someone who is 27 years old and haven't bought a car yet nor do I have a stable job or even know what is it that I want in life. Is it okay to ask if you have a full time job aside from YT? I'm just curious.
I have a full time job and I do this YT channel in my free time. Starting somewhere with a stable job, even if it’s not ur dream job, feels very liberating and can give u a better frame of reference when trying to figure out what u can and can’t afford car wise :)

I'm trying very hard to make it happen, to find at least a north. But days go by and even if it's not fair to compare to others cause we all have our story, I'm human and sometimes it hits when you see others moving forward and you still stuck, knowing you have so much to offer. Anyway, thanks.
Totally hear ya. Social media shows all the fun parts but I spend just as much time lost and wandering. To me, a car should be fun, not a financial burden, so don't feel pressure to buy things just because other people have them.
@@NihongoGamer not at all, money has always being a means to an end to me but not my goal. Of course, my economy at the moment would really benefit with a stable income but I'm trying. I realized I love games and the industry as a whole so started a project in 2019 of offering my translation services to indie game devs.
So far I have worked in 9 projects and with 2 of those I earned more than I would have in a normal job at the moment in my country. I felt really proud cause I just jumped in the pool without knowing a thing but it's been months since a new project has come my way after hundreds of emails so it's tough. Will try a new approach when I get my PC back and see how it goes.
Last question if I may, what did you study? Wondering if that's your full time job now. Of course, don't have to answer to those if you prefer not to.
I studied music :) it comes in handy sometimes but it’s not what I do at work mainly. I’m an editor.
I got an older SLK modell… its was cheap and it also got a automatic car roof.. you press a button and the hard top goes into the trunk
maybe if I‘ll be rich someday I buy a brand new car… otherwise it’s a waste of money… if you drive your first mile on a brand new car it looses so much on value that it’s like burning money

LSD was a extra on the car so they did come with them
I'd recommend adding a new steering wheel wrap, the OEM wheel is a little thin and the wrap drastically improved the situation. They are typically a DIY option, and very affordable and customisable.
Bruh… why didn’t you buy a Skyline GTR… them Japanese streets is perfect for that car 😅☺️
That's easy if you're rich. Even base Skyline's with the RB20 aren't cheap anymore. Also, it's a rather large vehicle too. Parking one is a pretty arduous task, unless you have a parking space of your own. Miata's are always the answer in situations like his. It's small, but power to weight ratio is amazing, and it fits in some of the tightest parking spacing. Also, if you want a little more performance and properly tune a Miata, oftentimes they can actually beat Skyline's on the track.
