This is an excellent video! I've never sailed before and after watching this, I'm going to take a course at the sailing school here in Lisbon Portugal.
Hi Michael Many thanks for the comment and I am glad it has interested you to take up a course. I have been to Lisbon many times and i can see it would be a very nice place to learn to sail and go sailing. Many thanks Tim Sailaboat
A first class video. I should have read the advice about only trying it for the first time on an light wind day before my first attempt with a newly purchased RS Vareo, when I discovered they were right with their prediction that you will invevitably find yourself capsized at some stage while sailing with it (:-))
Hi guys... Congrats for this excellent video... You just NAILED IT! it makes beginners like me which love to sail, but are still with respect in the process of learning a LOT more confident to try the new and more complex maneuvers...i looked this video (and your other vids) again and again, and with visualizing the single steps (which turned out as a ritual every day, especially before sleeping) i achieve some kind of feeling for "what has to happen when and WHY"...the rest I think is training and rehearse....finding the steps into stronger winds and conditions...so you simply encouraged my target! Thanxx a lot for that... Keep on with your inspiring vids...philipp

Great video! have you tried it with an Open 5.70 from Phlileas? The genaker is big and I will preciate if you can give me some advises or links to watch. Thanks and greetings from Argentina
Cristian Fundaró can you send me a link to some pictures of the boat so I can see. Then I may be able to give some help on that boat. We are in the UK so don’t know the boat but principles would be similar across different boats if the same type of sail is used Many thanks Tim Sailaboat
Hi Estel. For the videos we used a variety of boats. Either RS Feva (the small one) or RS Vision. These I think are mostly European boats as we are UK based., and we also used the Laser Bahia which is available internationally. For the single handed ones we mostly used the Laser Radial and full rig. For guidance on boats I suggest you go to a local sailing/yacht club and ask what is best for that particular location as this does vary depending on environment. Hope that helps!
sailaboattv Thank you very much for the information! I was thinking to buy a laser Radial but I would like to take someone on the boat... so maby the RS Vision could work better! I’m asking if with the Vision could I sail alone... Do you know that? Congrats with your channel and thank you for the comment, that has help me!
Hi Estel The radial is of course a single person boat so it depends on what you want to do. The Vision is big and heavy and I wouldn't recommend it for one person. The radial is a great boat to learn in. Plenty of excitement but does not have the full rig. There is also the option of the 4.7 rig which is smaller still and better if learning so perhaps look at this option too. We teach in the radial as well with good results. Best advice is go to your local club and see what they sail and advise. Where are you?
Does the anti capsize procedure change if you don't have a centerboard? (Neptune 14 1973 is my boat.) I've been trying to figure out the rigging for it forever lol
Not familiar with that boat. Capsizing is just part of the sport. Mast head float aids can help stop the boat invert. But practice in light winds so when it happens for real it is easier Tim Sailaboat
Is this on Fairlop? If so, I once sailed that boat on a cold January day and capsized it :/ .. but it was a great experience, people were very nice, the boat was great and the scenery quite pleasing.
Hi Mathias. The boat is an RS Feva. It is a youth training boat but has all the features of larger boats. Keep going on the sailing it is a great sport

Thanks for the comment. We try our best to set everything up as it should be, but sometimes things don't work out as well. Hopefully the narrative of the content is OK for you to learn from. Sounds like you are an experienced sailor which is not really who the channel is aimed at. Happy sailing

Hi Wolfgang I am not familiar with this boat, but looking at pictures it looks like a sensible boat to use. Have a look through our videos on the channel. We have tried to break down all the mumbo jumbo and put things in an easy to understand way - well that was the intention.
