Don't know how that statements an issue. Just because San Antonio has a low median income don't mean everyone is poor. They can attract some San Antonio people. How is statement a problem? @@anonymousperson3023 He's saying that the city doesn't have enough people with enough money to drive 30 minutes to the game, but enough people with enough money to drive an hour and a half to supplement another cities team. That's, in my eyes, a contradiction. It should ideally work the other way, where the city with less expendable income gets the team and the city that's smaller but has more income gets the inconvenience of a longer drive. This not even considering San Antonio has a population of 1.5M, larger than 23 cities with teams and is growling at the same rate as Austin. They can easily get 30K a night into a stadium.

Does baseball need to expand to survive though? Just adding a new team doesn't change the fact that baseball as a sport is seen as slow and boring by most young fans. Doing a better job of promoting the game online, marketing their players, eliminating dead time, and making tickets and parking cheaper for kids to entice younger fans would be probably be a better strategy than putting a team in Austin and hoping the residents forgo the other 2 long established teams within 3 hours and the outside team allegiances all the transplants will have.

Honestly I'd put an expansion team in Austin, TX and Louisville, KY. Austin is the largest city in the US without a big four team, and Louisville is the historical heart of baseball (while still being the 28th largest city in the States). If the Cardinals can sell out at pretty much every venue they own, I'm sure a 35k seat MLB stadium can sell out.

your not taking into account the heat and cost of a fully air conditioned adjustable dome. Rangers had a problem attracting fans during the summer because the Texas heat becomes so brutal, you’d rather watch a game at home. They had to open a brand new fully air condition stadium just to get fans in the stands

I think a perfect place to put an expansion franchise is Columbus, Ohio because it’s a growing city and because it only has one big 4 sports team. With how people from Columbus rally around Ohio State and Columbus Crew (the soccer team) I think Columbus is a good place to think about putting a team.

Austin is not built for a major sports team. It’s a college town through and through. Their thing is music, not sports. San Antonio has a bigger population and has the fan base for a major team. Also, a lot of the economic and population growth is coming from all over, a big chunk of that being Austin. So many people make that hour commute to work here. The surrounding suburbs and small towns also come here for sports. We keep expanding as a city on all sides.

I would add a team in Monterrey mexico as it would draw more Latin fans and while the US is declining in birth, Mexico it’s extremely normal to have 4-9 children per marriage. This would help popularize the game and get fans to travel internationally helping both the MLB and the international growth. I would say Mexico City but the flights would be to difficult as it’s pretty far from most teams can handle

If the MLB were to expand, it would mostly be with 2 teams in stead of one, and would need a realignment of divisions. Obviously, we need more teams out west, so Vancouver is 100% doable. But a realignment would be interesting to me. I think it would work well with the Texan teams as they always have to travel 2 time zones away to Seattle or California

Great city. Problem is that the mlb can’t expand. I disagree with the original idea. Baseball is already top heavy and as contracts continue to sky rocket, small market teams will die. Adding more won’t do anything. We could move a team like Oakland to Austin, but that’s a different convo
