What I like about you Rob is you’re relatable, you don’t claim to be making millions off gardening, you don’t use any ridiculous over the top equipment. You’re just a hard working bloke who does his best each day to do an honest days work!
Coming up to a year being a self employed gardener now. Found this channel when my dad showed me a few of your videos. I find my best days are coming home from a day of cutting grass and then getting into bed and watching you do the exact same thing, I’m addicted 😅

@@maxwellsgrasscuttingservices Yes just got it three days ago still on the box but can wait to get it out . I did some research and came across your videos, you made me feel I made a good decision in getting the Honda 537 I’m on my early 60s and it help me to make my life easier. Stay safe we recovering from having Covid again!
Here in Scotland we had a terrible second half of August Rob, as a result we did lose a few customers because they weren't best pleased we didn't get to their gardens in the hammering rain but hey, out with the old moaners, in with the new groaners!. Great to see some of your work again Rob, keep up the good work :)
Rob. I do 2 four weekly mows only because the customers like long grass, almost like rewilding so it’s no dramas just topping it off. But you’re right apart from those I’d not touch a 4 weekly mow. Great post.
Nice job Rob..I'm 66 beginning of October and finding it's getting tougher tbh I'll be glad when the seasons finished..I'm a retired Carpenter so during the winter months I do fixtures and fittings, blinds, curtain poles, TV's on walls, shelves, mirror's etc..certainly easier money than gardening but I love working outside..I really enjoy your videos and agree with nearly everything you say..keep up the good mate 👌regards Paul from Stevenage..
I agree. Its been a really tough year as a Gardner down here. Heavy rain or heatwaves but the grass cutting has meant i have got behind on other garden jobs
Hi Rob. Growing well in Wallsend too. No sign of it slowing down yet. Been giving quite a few lawns a regular few handfuls of feed this year too. Think it may pay for itself but giving me an extra cut in the autumn to do. Cheers mate, love the uploads. Neil
Nowt better than a maxwells notification, that 537 is a sexy bit of kit I often dream of one of them or an etisia pro, one day hopefully both, I could have a museum like them bike collectors but would have lawnmowers and equipment in mine. Cracking job as always your the man.👍
Hi Rob I should have said, round the outside first, after strimming. Then up and down the lawn as you are doing. It just means you can turn straight round for your next pass with our having to shunt back and forth to get round. I'm not trying to tell you how to suck eggs, just a fellow garden passing on a tip. Keep working hard mate. Best wishes Garry. GARRY'S GARDEN MAINTENANCE Solihull
Hey Rob Brilliant clip showing what an average lawn is like on a 2 weekly schedule with some sunshine and showers thrown into the mix. I’ve just added a HRX 537 to my arsenal (i keep watching your glowing comments about yours and decided to give one a go) after running a stihl 7 series for the last couple of years and needing something lighter for some of my smaller, more delicate lawns. I have to salute you and if I ever bump into you I’ll get you a beer…..I was sceptical at first as it felt a bit flimsy but I’m starting to think that the 7 series will never see the light of day again. The HRX picks up better, drives faster, mulches better and doesn’t leave me feeling like I’ve been wrestling Big Daddy all day! All the best, Rich.
Cheers Rob. Try and keep up with the regular maintenance mate, its so much better for the lawn the mower and general efficiency when your mowers cutting well. 👌👍
Great vlog mate ...why the honda and not your favourite stihl wet cut 🤔😂...I agree what a year we've had I mainly do commercial and feel like I've been chasing backside all year 🙈 I had a week's holiday last week and missed a cut ...I filled a 1 ton dumpy bag with cutting today off one site...I'm sure the residents are feeding the grass miracle grow when I'm away 🤣🤣
A lawn like this with a small front lawn too, would be £35 per fortnightly cut. 16 cuts a year starting mid March until the end of October. I hope that helps. The average time spent on site would be approximately one hour. 👍🏻
If you put them back a week, I'm assuming the next cut is 1 week otherwise you'd be out of schedule. Do customers complain and say it's not long enough to cut after just 1 week?
A great question Ben. It depends on the customer. I mostly put it back so the next visit is in two weeks. That’s when local jobs are best, but yes it messes with the schedule. 👍🏻
When the grass is growing like mad the biggest wind up to me is can you cut it a bit shorter next time knowing with experience/ contour of ground you've got it bang on ,l feel like putting on it's lowest level and giving it a full scalp then saying are you happy now 😂
When I'm asked to "cut it shorter next time" it's met with a straight "no" . I remind them they are hiring a lawn care professional to look after there lawn. If they think they can do better themselves then they are welcome to try. I'm an easy going fella. But I won't be told how to do my job from someone who can't or won't do it themselves.
@@maxwellsgrasscuttingservices lol. No really. I'm actually really easy going. But they wouldn't tell any other tradesman how to do there job. So why do they think it's okay to tell a gardener?
I've got a question for you Rob: A customer wants their lawn cut ridiculously low, to the point I scalp bits of it due to being uneven, they say they're fine/happy with that happening. I feel like they're falling into the trap of cutting it short so they don't have to cut it again, but since I'm there every two weeks I stay on top of things. I know the answer is that the customer is always right and that I should take the money and just do what they say but the "professional" in me says differently. Have you had any experiences with customers like this?
Or don't sell your soul to the devil and tell them find another gardener, personally I'd sell my soul and even raise the price just cos they don't listen lol
My usual answer to that is to set the mower at the best height for the grass, and tell the customer "that's as low as I can cut it" 😅 I can't see the point in scalped grass with brown patches.
@@JandYs_Story Well 8 months later and at start of the new season and I haven't asked them if they'd like me back and they haven't contacted me so I think that job is thankfully gone!
I never wear shorts. If a midgey can bite me. It will.! The mower. I know every gardener will say they have the best mower, but honestly. I think my weibang virtue 53 SSD with high lift blade would of done that in half the time. Without having to stop to clear a clogged shoot. I've sat at home all week this week and earned nothing as my van is broke. It's getting a new clutch on Wednesday next week. So I'll be hiring a van from Monday to Thursday next week so I can get out and hopefully earn some green gold! I've spent this last week pacing up and down frustrated as hell. I can't even say I've enjoyed the break. Can't wait to get back to work next week. All the best. G.
What I do now is mow with the box off, rake the lines of grass together, bin/bag the piles of grass and then put your box on and cut again.. long wet grass just clogs in the hayters far to easy. Did you ever downgrade to electric tools? 🤭
Certainly much harder this year with all the rain, especially recently. Much quicker mowing during Flaming June. I will be phasing out six lawns which are lush and grow vigorously,...requiring a triple cut. Too strenuous and punishing physically. 25 minutes instead of 10 to 15,....simply not paying their way.
