In this video I show you step by step how to change the SPARK PLUGS in your 2016 TOYOTA COROLLA. This process should also work for similar TOYOTA COROLLA models. This is a very straight forward job and doesn’t require a lot of automotive knowledge to perform this maintenance requirement. Your SPARK PLUGS are a very important part of your engine and you always want to change them at the recommended time. My wife’s 2016 TOYOTA COROLLA requires that her SPARK PLUGS be changed right around the 100,000 mile mark. Her car just hit 100,000 miles so I decided to change the SPARK PLUGS. The tools you will need and the spark plugs that I used are in the links above. This job cost me about $58 total. It could be cheaper or more expensive based on the type of spark plug you use and if you need any extra tools. In the video you will see that I used a 14mm SPARK PLUG SOCKET. This specific socket is used to remove and replace SPARK PLUGS. A regular deep 14mm socket will not work. I purchased OEM SPARK PLUGS for my car, but you can purchase whatever type of spark plug you desire. I would recommend that you use OEM because that’s what the manufacturer designed for the car. Thank you so much for this video! My husband usually took care of our car repairs but unfortunately he is now a quadriplegic. After watching your video I was able to successfully change the spark plugs on my Toyota today.
Ha! Good to hear 👂 that you did it yourself, hmm I like when a woman manages to do what she needs to do without relying on mechanics that like to rip people off specially women.
Hey Lisette, I’m so glad you are stepping up to the plate. Your Husband sounds like a really intelligent man to be able to take care of car repairs. Because of your comment, I’m going to be teaching my wife how to change her oil, tires, and other minor maintenance. Take care Ma’am
After loosening the spark plug, just use the coil boot to pull out the spark plug
I'm about to change my 2016 corolla plugs, this video was extremely helpful. Thanks for sharing!
how was the process, im about to change mine'
Tysm for the help, the least i could do is leave a comment.
Excellent tutorial, I immediately went to Auto-Zone, bought the Bosch set of 4 spark plugs and following your guide, I replaced them in less than 30 minutes. One cautionary thing for those doing the work, be careful when removing the spark plug socket as the rubber grommet might not want to come out with the socket. I was able to put the socket back in, wiggle it and BOOM, the grommet came out with the socket. THANK YOU FOR THE VIDEO, it's so nice to do this yourself with ease and save money that would have gone to a repair shop.
Super helpful! I like how you just used the extender to get around the space limitations instead of using a swivel head (one less thing to buy) and then attached the wrench. 👍🏻
Dealership said $150 in labor for this. Gonna try it myself 🤞🏻
Excellent video! I’ve installed my plugs and felt confident. Thanks.
From what I can find online, the torque specs for the plugs are 13 ft lbs. In case anyone wants to torque them.
Super helpful video. My corolla had been a little sluggish for a while. Today, it was rough start, that smoothed out in less then a minute and it ran fine. But that told me that it could be the spark plugs. I had no idea where to find them before your video. Got it done in less that 20 minutes. It is running great
Thank you so much for making this video. I have never done anything to my car on my own and I wasn’t super confident that I could do this, but with the help of your step by step instructions I did it! I did have to buy a magnetic socket, as I couldn’t loosen the spark plug with what I had on hand, but other than that, your instructions made something previously daunting, incredibly simple and something I knew I could do. Thank you so much. 😊
You were very thorough! I feel confident I can do this. Thank!!
Thank you for showing that even easy jobs can have a few snags
Thanks so much for this informative video. I've never worked on cars my whole life. 36 years old and have very little knowledge about vehicles. This gave me the security and know how to change my own spark plugs with no hassle. Although the first one the rubber ring came out of the socket and I put the cap back on and screwed it down. Thought I dropped it somewhere in the engine and looked for a good 20 minutes before I took the cap back off and realized it was stuck on the spark plug. Took about 45 minutes my first time every changing these.
YT is great. I've changed my breaks and now spark plugs and have saved about $300 in shop fees. I'm a doordasher and put a lot of miles, wear and tear on my car so this is huge savings down the road. Now if I just had a machine to change my tires out and the tools and know how to change my struts/shocks. Thanks 😊
Is amazing how you manage to get your glove hand right in front of the spark plug when prying off the connector with screw driver! everytime
Good looking G ... did mines today.. thanks for your help big dawg
Great video! You explain things extremely well sir. Thanks
Thank you for uploading this video! I’m about to change the spark plugs in my car. This video gave great tips!
I've heard people say use anti seize but I've never heard of someone who had a seized plug
exactly
Same. I have seen many cross threaded though
Yes always use anti seize.
@@jamescc2010not needed on these plugs
I like the magnetic spark plug sockets
FYI use needle nose pliers to squeeze the coil pack electrical connector. They can get brittle and using a screwdriver will snap the retainer. Then your up $h!tZ creek.
Help! 2014 Toyota Corolla LE….when I come to a stop my car tries to lunge forward a bit and it makes a very noticeable vibrating/rumbling sound that signals something is clearly wrong. Then it’ll go away after around 5-10 seconds of just sitting their. It just started happening and it only happens in the mornings after my car has been parked all night. I’m usually in a hurry so I’ll be going like 45 mph down the road and come to a sudden stop at the stop sign is when I notice it. After driving around a bit it goes away and doesn’t happen at all. What could this be??? I read it could be my RPM’s staying to high after coming to a sudden stop, maybe spark plugs going bad? Please help!
Can you explain what the quarter turn rule is?
Great job
Good stuff! I always disconnect the battery as well if I’m doing spark plugs.
It's not necessary. Plus, then you have to reset all your radio presets.
The spark plug on mine has a sleeve over the plug. I need a thinner wall sized socket. A standard plug won't fit. Man I tell you the later the model vehicle the harder they make it to work on.
Have you done the transmission fluid ? Miles ? I'm at 81k
Sold that car but no.
Thank you very much, this video was extremely helpfulk.
Just did my 2016 today
🙌🏿🙌🏿🙌🏿🙌🏿🙌🏿
Do you know what is the OEM spark plugs number for the 2016 corolla??
TOYOTA doesnt make their own spark plugs. When you buy them from the dealer and open the box, on the side of the plug it says denso.
It's confusing because when I look up information on my Spark plug there are two different numbers why that happens. What would be the best option for a 2015 Toyota Corolla Le?
Hello, quick question. If my coil pack is clean I should/must change them as well?
If the coils are good then only replace if theyre bad.
Much appreciated
I don't use the rubber grommet,,,, I simply loosen the spark plug and use a magnet to pull the spark plug out
Would you also recommend coils from Amazon as well?
As long as they’re oem or a good brand not some Chinese knock off
Nothing from Amazon is guarantied genuine. As with any electronic item, Amazon throws all the same part numbers into the same bin. If some scammer repackages some garbage brand as NGK or ND etc, you're now buying junk at top shelf prices. Also, with all Japanese auto manufacturers they only run right with the OEM brand plugs. Trust me, they may be 30-40% more expensive, but they will last much longer and save you many headaches.
@@laneericI fully agree. I was shocked that he used Autolite brand plugs instead of Denso lol....
Was there any vibration or engine light?
dont understand the size of the spark plug is not the same that the oem?can be installed perfectly with the 14 mm size?
Is doing the serpentine belt easy?
Thanks
Thank-you
I did this today and i got a check engine what I suppose to do?
Toyota manual says quarter to half. Good job
do I have to disconnect the battery
No
What size of the extension??
You said you added the links? Do I have to be on desktop to see them?
The links are in the description
did you apply pressure to the button of the clip or where the clip attaches 5:16?
I'm not sure to be honest
Thanks Brother🙏
No problem!
Dealership tried to charge me 2 grand for this. He said "it's labor intensive"
Thank you and would you know if NGK PLUGS WORK IN THIS MODEL? Also does it hurt any thing to leave off the plastic motor cover?
Great! How much for spark plugs now adays?
At 107k on 2016 Corolla, and 120k on 15 Corolla, due to major service, l will have to do the same thing, including coolant, transmission fluid, and air / cabin filters.
How are the spark plugs working?
What do you mean "a colder spark plug"?
They don’t gap it at the store they gap it at the factory and always check cuz I do and at least half are always wrong
Aftermarket plugs from Autolite etc CAN be misgapped, but OEM factory plugs like Toyota will be dead on as long as someone didn't drop it. It's always best to check ayway.
I purchase 4 Toyota Corolla with no gap
you just win the lottery founding 4 spark plug that is not already pre gap! congrat
@@mracer8 I took them back to Toyota and they replaced them.
👍👍 👍
Really liked the video and the vibe you gave until you said you didn't torque things down for years... Trash
