On May 12th,1916, Connolly was shot by firing squad. He had been taken by military ambulance to Kilmainham Prison, carried on a stretcher to a courtyard in the prison, tied to a chair and shot. With the other executed rebels, his body was put into a mass grave with no coffin.

While I am all for a proper free Republic in Ireland, I would not want a People's Republic in Ireland, because a People's Republic is just another way of saying Communist Regime. I am still for a free Ireland, but I would like a free Republic in Ireland. The current government of Ireland is the Republic of Ireland, which is a free Republic and not a People's Republic.

When i hear this song I think of my Great Uncle James Bradley my grandma's brother, from the Brandywell Derry. He was there fighting and was put in Kilmainham jail and on his release and back in Derry he was known as Easter Brad ', all family so Proud of James Bradley, Easter Brad'
It would be fun if this Irish song in honor of James Connolly, the Scottish-Irish leader of the anti-British resistance organization Irish Citizen Army was sung by an Irish singer on the talent show "Britain's Got Talent". It would be even funnier if this video was shown in the background on the big screen. Although the song "Go On Home British Soldiers" would be maybe better because the song is more unambiguous.

As for James Connolly, thanks for the information about his time in the US. I did not know that. I may be right wing politically, but I know how important socialists like James Connolly were to workers' rights. At that time I would probably have been a leftist too! But today's left wing cannot be compared to the left wing from back then. The fight for workers' rights is now irrelevant for them. In fact, the left wing movement transformed the conservatives as well. The conservatives now know that patriotism means that even ordinary people have to benefit from the economic upswing. It is no coincidence that the conservative Polish government involved ordinary people in Poland's economic recovery much more than previous left-wing governments.
