    One Board Build | DIY Screened Bottom Board | We will use one board to build a screened bottom board.
    In this video, we will do another one board build. Using just one board, we will be building a honeybee house screened bottom board. This is a quick, cheap, and effective way to build the foundation of any beehive. The bees will appreciate the ventilation whether you live in Georgia or Iowa. You can't go wrong with this quick One Board Build. I use screened bottom boards on all of my hives and they work wonders to ventilate the hive as well as drop hive beetles and their larva directly out the bottom.
    I hope you enjoy this one board build screened bottom board and if you happen to build it please give the Bug Farmer a shout out on your channel if you are a creator. If you are not a creator please let me know in the comments that you built the One Board Build Screened Bottom Board and tell me how you like it.
    If you are considering installing a sustainable or edible landscape or becoming a beekeeper or starting beekeeping as a hobby this is the channel for you. I will show you everything I learned in my first years of beekeeping and you can learn with me as I experience and overcome the challenges I encounter in my second year and beyond. I will also feature some how-to videos because I am perpetually curious and creative and am always building something.
    Thank you for visiting my channel and I really hope you like, subscribe, and ring the bell.

    Wow, that was quick and efficient. I hate wood working, but I think I'd tackle that job. Looks identical to the way my Amish boards are built with the exception of the slide groove for the plastic bottom insert. I'll have to look to see what they do there and possibly apply it to this video. Great tutorial!

    We all do sketchy things in the shop from time to time. Another approach might be to "sneak up" on that cut - 1/2" at a time, flip, raise the blade, cut/flip/cut-raise - rinse and repeat. Not as fast.. maybe safer though

    Great but where does the sticky board insert go to trap varroa

    • @BugFarmerBees
      @BugFarmerBees  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No sticky board with this one. However, very easy to add. If you cut a groove on three sides 3/8 up from the bottom with a standard table saw blade (1/8" wide) you could add a sticky board. I guess I should have mentioned it in the video but forgot. Sorry. I rarely use my sticky boards in GA. To hot. ventilation is more important to me. Thanks for taking the time to comment though. I really appreciate it. take care.

    • @BugFarmerBees

      The bees dispose of mites after a treatment or they can fall through the screen bottom.

    @Amethyst1919 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    You'd conserve the hardware cloth by cutting it 19 inches long and then in half. Rather than 12 inches long and then to the 19 inches... Since the roll is 24 inches wide tou can get 2 pieces out of the width...

      Its not to tough. Just measure the outside diameter of the 10 frame box and adjust accordingly. I guess the key is the design. Easy to make with a single board. Thanks for stopping in to have a look and for taking time to comment. Take care.

    Here's a stupid question, the kind you've come to expect from me. What's the difference between a hive and a nuke?

    • @BugFarmerBees
      @BugFarmerBees  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Great Question. A NUC is short for nucleus. It is the beginning, or core of the hive and usually consists of a queen and between 3 and 5 frames of bees. It is a starter colony. When the bees are strong enough they are moved to a full hive which contains between 8 and 10 frames and allows the bees room to grow their colony and store honey.
