As a Norns user, I appreciate this mixer as a great send/return system for Norns to loop a bunch of stereo instruments with presets for gain, FX sends etc., and I want to take it on the road!
@SynthDad I do this on my large mixer at home and love it. question: are each of the send outs mono or stereo? would both send outs go to the Norns on this mixer, or would a TRS to dual mono Y cable be necessary?
@@petecolombo Each of the AUX sends are mono so you'd need to use both of them in parallel for a stereo send unless you want to mult the Left and Right channels off each other into the Norns. I'm new to Norns - do the effects scripts expect stereo or mono input?
Nice little demonstration. The L6 seems like the perfect mixer for a compact setup. I've been using a relatively small full-size mixer, the Soundcraft EPM-6 (and a separate 4-channel recorder for recording dry and wet stereo mix at the same time), but it's still big, and hard to squeeze it into the very limited space I have for my setup, so I've been wanting something like it for years. The fact that everything is also MIDI controllable is already starting to give me some ideas for how it can be manipulated from my Zoia. The Zoia is great for generating, modulating and converting MIDI - and a myriad other things.
Nice one. Ive had a tab open on my phone since this was announced waiting for it to hit the UK market because its perfect for what i need, mine arrives on Monday 😄 I put trays full of battery powered dawless gear together to jam with, this couldn't be a better solution for mixing and recording on a tiny setup like that 👌
@@Congasjones The SmplTrek works very differently but the two together would be very useful. That would be a very powerful setup in a tiny space 😁👌
Great video. You can make loops with the 4 sample tracks in real time and you can record in one what the others reproduce making loops and with their effects.
I was waiting for l6 so bad but I decided to get a 1010music bluebox, of course bluebox is 24 bit im happy to see level meters on it and parametric eq. 🙂

Yes you could! You wouldn't be able to plug anything into that channel as the USB audio is on it, but the other channels would all mix with it and then record to Master
Very good review! Thank you. I have two questions: 1. Can you control Compressor params in the app? 2. Can you assign Midi control to all its parameters without switching level, aux, eq buttons on the mixer. Like if i want my midi faders control levels but the encoders of the mixer will be Send or anything else? Thank you!
Thanks for your questions! 1. Not that I can see. Hopefully that can be added in a firmware update 2. Yes that is possible. If you use the MIDI controller as a level control say and choose the EFX mode on the mixer then you can adjust the level while changing the send with the knobs. Each control has its own MIDI CC number
@SynthDad I would like to connect the DJ Techtools Midi Fighter Twister (it only has USB, not MIDI in and out ports) via USB to the L-6 and then through the MIDI out on the L-6 to the MIDI in on the ZOIA so that I can control the parameters in the ZOIA with the controller. I don't want to use a USB MIDI host, do you think this can work?
That won't work as the MIDI Fighter Twister is not a USB host as far as I know. The L-6 also isn't a USB host. They're both USB client devices which needs a host to work - in other words a computer.
I've just picked one of these up, and love the form factor but so far I'm a bit disappointed; I want to use it mainly as a live mixer, with backing/click tracks for In Ear Monitors. The key of course is that the click track doesn't go to front of house, you don't want the audience hearing the count-ins, voice prompts, click etc. I was hoping the L6 would allow me to therefore split the backing/click, so I could feed the backing to the main outs, and the click track to an output, either Aux or Monitor, where I connect my monitors. Some mixers allow you to mute a channels main output, but still feed it to headphones, or to Aux. So far it seems that on the L6, whatever I send to the main outs also goes to Aux and Monitor, and I can't find a way to send the click tracks only to headphones or to Aux. Have you any suggestions on how to do this with the L6 please?
I think you're asking too much of the L6 for what you want to do. It's not meant for this use case. I'd consider a different mixer, maybe the L-8 or L-12, or indeed a different brand of mixer. The larger mixers I own have separate AUX, Monitor and Main outs that allow different routings to be set up and saved as scenes

@@SynthDad white noise reports are the #1 deterrent for buying this ATM
I think the Euro community would have been better served here with a realistic "this is not a great option" for those interested. You start explaining why (no gain control) but then the video oddly cuts to you using it in a larger Euro setup without really explaining what the options are for wrangling in the levels. I think a new/inexperienced modular person who buys this expecting plug and play without blasting the mix into a distorted mess would be super disappointed. It's an ok mixer but if you plan on Euro use, you'll need to really pay attention to attenuation pre Zoom.
That’s good feedback thanks
@@SynthDadAnd actually, that concern just shows you don’t understand why a gain knob is not required! In fact, this is one of the main draws of this device!! It use float 32, which means you do not have to worry at all about levels!!!
@@PatrickWaugh-kk3zehalf right. For any interested in buying, only the first two channels (combo jacks) have dual ADC. The rest have only a single ADC and are 24 bit and lack gain control. This is noted explicitly in the documentation as well as shown in the block diagram.
My problem with this device at the moment is that when i connect it to my Ipad AUM cannot see all the inputs. I imagine alot of people will use this with Ipads.
I've just tested it in AUM and Garageband and I also can only see the master stereo output, not the individual channels! That seems like a big miss by them and hopefully gets fixed.
Just confirmed - you need to plug in USB power on the side to see the other channels in an iPad. Once I plugged in a USB power bank to the side socket then all of the channels appeared in AUM
3 videos all come out the same week saying “this is the perfect portable mixer”. I am beginning to think nothing has utility.
with all this patching, the zoom is no longer portable
I'm not sure I understand what you mean...
