    Thank you very much for the instructional videos on the classic 2600. I'm just a home hobbyist who loves synths. You gave me the courage to get one of the clones after watching your beginner videos a couple of times, and they are all guiding my first steps. This is my first "big boy" synth! You're a good teacher! Thanks!

    I already had a ride set up to return my Arp 2600 m tomorrow because I thought it was broken with the droning note. Last minute just looked up some videos on TH-cam and can't thank you enough for this video and for explaining that it's a common mistake by new users. I loved the sound and really didn't want to return it and after this video it's a lot easier to understand how this synth works.

      Hello Patrick, I am glad that my video helped you to get started. The Behringer 2600 documentation is actually more of a reference manual. The longer you use the 2600 Synth the more it will reveal itself to you. Then the Behringer manual will become pretty helpful. Happy patching and thanks for watching! Greetings, Ralph

    I was 20 in August 2000 when I bought my first ARP synthesizer, an Axxe Mk II. One of the things I stumbled onto was that initial gain control bypassing the VCA level. It was a little adventure unto itself, and I tried harnessing it on one or two occasions.
    Two months later when I read the Mark Vail book Vintage Synthesizers, the article about the 2600 (written ironically by Dr. Robert Moog) included a reference to Josef Zawinul having purchased his first 2600 and informed the ARP staff that the sound was incredible though he couldn’t get it to stop. I subsequently learned that feature is meant to facilitate external audio signals passing through the filter section.
    Incredible all the things that somebody can do with this module, simply playing it as a performance synthesizer like the Minimoog or Odyssey, without even touching the patchbay. I can just imagine that if this model were on the market when I was the same age as when I bought the aforementioned Axxe, I would’ve chosen this instead. Some have said it doesn’t have the characteristics of the original ARP line, but I beg to differ. Haven’t bought one yet (as of December 2022), but I might.

    • @RalphBaumgartl
      @RalphBaumgartl  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for sharing this. I wasn't aware that even Joe Zawinul had trouble figuring out the "Initial Gain" thing. As an owner of an original ARP 2600, I can confirm that the B2600 is a pretty decent 2600 clone. Greetings, Ralph

      Many thanks, Ralph.
      That first ARP synthesizer of mine is on the first three cuts on my self-titled debut record, *Eric Benjamin Gordon.* The seven offerings I have made available online since feature its successor, a Korg-manufactured Odyssey.

    Hi Ralph.
    Thanks for your easy to understand and informative video.
    I have just purchased a Behringer 2600 and am currently waiting for it to be delivered.
    I already own a Korg ARP Odyssey and would like to position the B2600 to the rear of the Odyssey.
    The Odyssey does not have a Midi out din jack (only midi in) it does have USB midi and CV/Gate in/outs.
    My question is:
    Can I play the keys on the Odyssey to play note on/off for the B2600 using the CV and Gate jacks instead of Midi?
    I know I can USB Midi through a computer, which I will do when I want to sequence in a DAW, but hoping to also have the option to just play the Odyssey to control note on/off to the B2600 stand alone.
    Thanks for any advice
    Kind Regards
    Paul

    • @RalphBaumgartl
      @RalphBaumgartl  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello Paul,
      yes you can establish a CV/Gate connection from your Odyssey to the 2600 Synth. Kind watch this tutorial here: th-cam.com/video/St4bx1Vz3mE/w-d-xo.html
      BTW, the Behringer Odyssey features also a DIN Midi Out Port. The Korg ARP Odyssey has a USB Midi port. You should be able to make a Midi connection to the Behringer 2600 via USB Midi the USB Midi Ports.

      Hello Mark, glad to know that my tutorials have helped you to get started with the 2600 Synth. Please bear in mind that the 2600 Synth is an analog device which means that a certain slider position on one 2600 device will NOT necessarily yield exactly the same sound on another 2600 device. Moreover the EQ on my mixer will also have an impact on the sound of my B2600. Wishing you a peaceful Christmas too! Ralph

    An easy thing to miss:
    If you're like me and start out using ADSR rather than AR as primary VCA control...
    It's worth noting that the slider is exponential.
    Having the slider in around 90% will yield a very weak signal.
    It's easy to miss the "EXP'L" label and waste time trying to troubleshoot weak output line levels!

    • @RalphBaumgartl
