Obviously y’all don’t pay attention to things. It been said that Mercedes was looking towards the future in finding younger talent for their team, it’s why they started offering lewis a yearly contract wich it’s why Lewis took the multi year ferrari contract so why would Mercedes hire Alonzo instead of giving Lewis a multi year contract n keepin him. Again they are looking for younger talent.

Imagine saying in 2020 when Alonso wasn't even in F1, that in 2025, he would be a serious candidate for a Mercedes seat. His longevity has to be the greatest in the sport's history.

Alonso has four world championships. He didn't just race in F1.
If mercedes are actually good after Lewis leaves and Fernando makes an unusually good team switch it will be hilarious as Fernando will rub it in so much.
Also George and Alonso seem to get along outside the grid so could be some good PR events with them.

@@razick0 when Matt and Tommy left, WTF1 kept doing the same but with different people.. Which, of course, has never been as good as it was before. (Matt's) memes vid was ditched after the first video cus that just hit wrong without Matt. But the informative vids just like these were still there and not bad at all.
Now they changed the channel to its complete own design, different logo, different people (again), different content.. But I think they should change the name as well.
This is what I was missing, I love P1 but I had lost the same short but insightful wheel knowledge type videos, it feels like a bit of a throwback and I’m so glad you’ve made this step to make this channel and do these sort of videos again, absolute win 👌

Basically, George’s advantage is enough to overcome Fernando’s potential deficit to Lewis.

Merc need to do something bold to keep people’s interest (fans, sponsors and even their own staff) and the safest bold move is to bring in Alonso. If they can’t do that, take a punt on Antonelli just for the intrigue.

Albon would be enough though. As Lewis leaving and George leading is a big change. Plus George and Alex are friends. Maybe a CarLando type of lineup at Merc would be cool.

If I were Toto: I'd wait to see how Kimi does in F2 during the first half of the season. If the boy is competitive straight away fighting for top positions with podiums and wins, I am putting in that Mercedes seat for 2025. If the boy does an okay job he's staying in F2 for a second season or move to Williams to gain experience. That means a giving Alonso a 2 year contract maybe optional +1.
If I were Alonso, I'd call Toto right now. Aston is ambitious and are doing everything right, new windtunnel new factory, a lot of new people coming, Honda engine etc., but it is a process and it takes time for everything to settle and start delivering results. Alonso is no 20yo even though he seems in shape for the moment. He doesn't have time to work on projects and processes. He needs immediate results. Mercedes might nail the engine regulations again and have a 30HP over everybody else.

@@greenfj1466Carlos and leclear is evenly matched I think... Carlos is always no 2 ... But he beat leclear on a less equipment oftenly... It's Ferrari's wrong strategy that beats Carlos.. Charles is just 0.058 faster than Carlos so it's like neck and neck only Ferrari support Charles... Charles is a qualifying material not race or wdc... He will never win a wdc but Carlos can win wdc with Ferrari if Ferrari sings him instead of Charles

Toto said they're gonna be bold. Something tells me they're gonna throw Kimi Antonelli straight into the seat instead of years at Williams etc or or on the sidelines. He's certainly by far the best prospect in recent times. A throwback to the Lewis & Max rookie era's wood be great. Risky, but if you truly think someone is a generational talent, take a chance.

@@greenfj1466 Lol he couldn't even ever truly fullfi the role of a 2nd driver for lewis in his battles against seb & max. He was literally nowhere to be seen. No reason to suggest he's got any better, all the reasons to suggest he's far worse. Also Kimi's 2nd stint at Ferrari was shocking & awful to see him fall from such heights but no one mentioned it cause he's well liked. I'm not a Bottas hater, to the contrary I liked him since he was at willaims & frankly just disappointed af by his time at merc. He had all the tools in a team which is as fair as can be when it comes to 1st/2nd drivers & he showed he was comfortable in the car, but sadly on the whole as someone who wanted him to beat Lewis he never even came close once.

I think it heavily depends on this years performance of the AMR24. If it's good Alonso will stay there and challange in 25 if it isn't performing well he could quit possibly thinkabout a move to Merc.
From the view of the merc i think they'll opt for Albon. They went for George because he's the future (somthing like that was the statement when he joined) and albon is more the future than an ageing Alonso. I also think albon may challange george in an equal car. Not because i think Alonso couldn't but albon can longer. Estie's out of contention because he got beaten as the experienced main driver alt Alpine by gasly who was new in that team.

This would be absolute awesome in my opinion! For 2025 and then seeing if Mercedes can nail the 2026 regulations, maybe winning another title that year and then retiring as reigning champion. THIS would be an even bigger story than Hamilton going to Ferrari.

I think it should be Alex Albon that gets the seat. He’s matured, he defends well, knows how to match his qualifying pace, and he’s great friends with George. IMO it should be him.

Kimi could still be in F1 in the 2040’s.
But he doesn't yet have what it takes to challenge verstappen, and even george doesn't have it yet. You need an experienced and proved championship driver to challenge verstappen, unless mercedes doesn't intend on challenging verstappen

Young Driver with loads of experience and potential.
Nobody seems to want to talk about Daniel Ricciardo as a Mercedes option. He is a fan favourite, cheaper than Alonso, and a proven race winner who seems to have found his form once again. I'm sure he would prefer Mercedes to RB for both team culture and team mate. There is also no guarantee RB will sign Ric knowing Sainz is now available and also a product of the RB academy and has been performing better than Ric has. Alonso is obviously a strong option for Merc, as is Albon (Ocon's days in F1 are likely limited), but a Daniel Ricciardo move seems just as likely to me as anyone else.

Alonso would be interesting but so would Vettel. I think they need experience, rather than a young driver because I don’t think Russel is ready (or good enough) to lead a team as the no1 driver. That car will still need development and that’ll happen quicker with a veteran driver.
