Former classmate found guilty of Blaze Bernstein murder in anti-LGBTQ hate crime

- Samuel Woodward, the man accused of killing his former classmate Blaze Bernstein in an anti-LGBTQ and anti-Jewish hate crime, was found guilty by a jury on Wednesday.
Woodward was found guilty of first-degree murder with special allegations that the killing was motivated by hate and that it was committed using a weapon. The trial, which began in April, came six years after Bernstein was found stabbed to death in Lake Forest.

I can't believe people are still insinuating that homosexuality is a "choice".
They are changin all the time. Half the homosexuals I know where married to heteros with children for 10-20 years and CHANGED. Many of those have changed back. It is merely a sex act, a sexual preference.

@@marisamartin3664 It's only a choice if someone is bisexual. Many gay people try to live as heterosexuals due to societal pressure and eventually come to recognize who they really are. Such people don't fundamentally change, they just reach a point in life where they start being more honest with themselves. If you think it's only a simple choice, consider how easy it would be for you to just change your own sexual orientation.

Man, a real homophobic hate crime... I'm so used to quickly questioning and dismissing people when they make allegations because of the bad wifi people and insufferable allies ruining the community's hard work and making all of us look bad, but it hits pretty hard on the rare occasion when it's proven to be true.

What nonsense. Near the end, the district attorney doesn't even know what kind of hate crime the defendant was convicted of. If you can't clearly articulate and conclusively prove either the anti-gay or anti-Jewish motive, you have no case for a hate crime. A crime must be clearly articulated by the prosecutor and definitively decided by the jury. And that's if you believe in hate crimes, which I believe to be absurd.

Do people in the comments really not know what “hate crime” means? Yeah, all murder is hateful, but when done BECAUSE of somebody’s being/what makes them a person, it’s a hate crime. Murder is murder…this “hate crime” garbage is ridiculous….ALL murder is a hate crime and should get equal punishment and should ALL get life sentences because they took away someone else’s life. This guy was having an “intimate encounter aka blow j**” with the other and then flipped out simply because he didn’t want to admit that he was also “into men”. He should get life no matter what.
