I've now been glued to your videos for about 5 days, they are amazing. I knew nothing at all about this stuff about a week ago, now I own a Phantom and next I'm building a Discovery, but one day I'd love a set up like you're using here.

It's funny to me that when TBS is under fire with their drones they call them toys, but any other time they are sophisticated machines, either way i love the videos guys!
Those two things are not mutually exclusive.
Interesting encounter with the park rangers. It's a big park and I hope this problem gets resolved soon. A friend and I fly FPV here in Florida and catch a lot of flack from other RC pilots. Keep up your amazing flying. A lot of us are participating in this sport and you guys are leading the pack!
And just for the record: we actually asked for permission to fly in a lot of places. Monument Valley, where R/C activity was not allowed, we asked for permission, they even gave us a tour guide because it's promotion for them. Same in Death Valley, where R/C activity is forbidden, we asked permission and got it. We asked for permission at Hoover Dam, even though it wasn't required. Because they're paranoid there and we didn't want to scare them. Got permission to fly there too.

Sigh, OMG THINK OF ALL THE ROCKS YOU COULD HAVE HURT WITH THOSE FOAM TOYS!!! /sarcasm. It boggles my mind how people can lose their shit over this, yet hardly bat an eye when their government runs the biggest surveillance operation in the world, on their own people, without any warrants. GG Murica.

Awesome video! Finally Grand Canyon scenery as only the birds get to see it! And best of all, you managed to keep it all in sharp focus, unlike many others I've seen. Glad you were able to get those shots before the new "No drone" regulations came into effect. Nice work, guys!

no, we drove out of the national park right away to fly back in. the ticket we got was for operating our aircraft on national park land (so not the flying part, the landing part).
I was very happy when I left the gates, the park rangers and the national park in general left a very deep scar in my trust for authorities. Compare their behavior to that of the policeman in NYC - and some would argue it's not a good idea to fly in NYC either :) people skills ... some people have them, some don't

no we can fly behind our directional antennas quite a bit. we just point it in the direction we want to fly eventually and then fly around ourselves ... works without problems

oh, and on that note, we drove to an indian reservation and they let us fly into the canyon and had a blast watching us. if you guys want to make the world a better place, avoid the national park like the plague and visit the natives instead. buy some of their jewellery, buy their buffalo jerky and navajo tacos. much more interesting than the sterile tourist rip off areas anyway.

INCREDIBLE VIEWS !!! I have to say it again though - if we don't police ourselves, we will be policed !!! You guys must know that no matter how good you are in piloting or how well your equipment is prepared, there is ALWAYS a chance of malfunction or human error. If you plow someone on that overlook going 60 mph, you WILL have big trouble ! Drive a few more miles and get away from onlookers PLEASE !!! These are incredible videos !

Maybe I made a publishing mistake, so here it is again (see the two " text blocks" below, plus this one) :
First of all, I would like to say that you, TBS guys, have set not less than a NEW STANDARD in aerial video. Many of your FPV videos are absolutely incredible !
Yes, and the rescue heli is a lot louder than our plane. A LOT. we know why it's a no-fly zone (do you?) and we are not in violation of what law is trying to prevent or protect.
if anything with a power source can start a fire you need to leave your cellphone at the gate entrance. and your car too. the NPS guards weren't very concerned about us crashing either, otherwise they wouldn't have harassed us while we were flying.
I'm pretty sure the condors in the video didn't mind. In fact, they came out to check out our plane (see the video). We also talked to one of the ladies tracking them. The no-fly zone does not apply to model aircraft (for a reason) - looks like you need to do some research :)
Our planes don't start bush fires for one, and two it's pretty hard to start a bush fire in a snow-soaked canyon.
Also, following your logic - in an indian refuge there are no campers we could have killed? Seriously?
its a "flying wing" they always tend to wobble like that. just started building wings and they do what they do. TBS are the best!
we did drive away all the way to the edge of the park - and got arrested there. next time I'll fly next to people again, there the rangers are too afraid to start arresting people. don't worry about us btw, we know 100% what we're doing and we do not fly next to people if there is the slightest chance of hurting someone.
My point with the no fly zone is what makes you think they would welcome a model plane? The only thing that ever flies there is the rescue heli and the birds.
Anything with a power source can start a fire sir. Especially at the very dry bottom where there was no snow. There are a lot of precautions in place to try and prevent fires in the canyon. I know because I hiked it several times. there are very remote areas down there where you would not be able to escape a fire.
Do you guys use the quadcopter for rescue missions, like say if you ended up nicking a wall and sending a zephyr to the bottom of the grand canyon? It's a looooong hike otherwise.

Unfortunately I'd be really surprised if it actually did not happen to You here in US. I have lived here for a while and my no surprise comes from watching how this society is moving forward.I feel like getting to the roots of this here would start a nasty conversation and change nothing.
Was there some quadcopter footage in there? I love quadcopter footage :D I like the variety of stuff you guys use. I just can't believe you have the balls to throw your planes off the cliff like that! YIKES. Sorry to read about the confiscations, that SUCKS! Looked like it would have been beautiful shots. Amazing stuff as always, keep it up!

love your videos guys- keep up the outstanding work- are you using an antenna tracker or just omnidectional antennas close to home as you seem to be flying around yourself (not ina traight line directionally) quite a lot- you guys going to hawaii on your tour?- particularly Kauai-would love to see footage from theer- at Waimea Canyon (the grand canyon of the pacific) and/or along the incredible Natal coast line of the island and at the amazing waterfalls etc- gorgeous scenery!

I'm a student too, in law school! If I was an attorney in AZ (if that's where this "incident" took place) I'd be happy take your case pro bono. I think all it may take is a phone call and letter from an attorney, not an actual case. That shouldn't be pricey at all. Never know who's a fan, maybe you'd get some sympathetic assistance. . . :)

What kind of Goggles are you guys using, It's seems your all using something that has been modded into ski goggles?
Awesome Footage by the way, its vids like this that made me ditch the quad and pick up a wing, the flying experience is like surfing through the air. I would love to see a few more flow moves thrown in though, Barrel rolls into carving proximity passes etc (easy to drive from here at the desk I know, but it would add to that exhilarating flowing/flying feeling) that barrel roll inside the canyon crevasse in one of the previous videos was sick and the carving on the dunes was nearly there. I've definitely gotta build a long range wing!
Most of all, the music is not at all in harmony with the great views. The "Grand Canyon" need a masterpiece music, ("Ennio Morricone" ?), not s.. music.

right on the money. not all park rangers are like that though. we met a very cool guy at death valley who gave us permissio to fly even though it's banned to fly in death valley. it's a person thing, not a system thing. some people are just a waste of air ...
Hi guys, I'm becoming addicted, I love your stuff. I know audience attention span is limited, but agree with earlier comment about editing in, just the occasional, longer realtime sequence. It would be good to get a feel of how you experienced it.
Any chance you could negotiate a session at Frank Lloyd Wright's Fallingwater at Bear Run, PA? Say with the Quadcopter, that could be impressive.

last I checked you don't need to ask permission for something that is not forbidden. do you ask for permission to ride your bike every time you do it? same thing ...
"confiscation", is actually illegal without due process. if they had confiscated more than an SD card they'd be in jail now ...
I know that it isn't autotomized but since you're flying the plane remotely through video it is considered a drone. Drones aren't all computer flown of course.

I think they were condors ... and they were ... errr ... fucking with us :) only after my spotter helped me evade a couple of their attempts to get in touch with us did they allow us to circle with them. fantastic experience to be accepted among birds :)
I do have a question, does your heart pound as you throw the plane into the canyon? My does and it's only watching the video and not my plane.. LOL
I think you're making a confusion between Secure Digital (SD) cards that are used for HD as well and Standard Definition GoPro (SD).

Hi! Great video as always. Thanks for showing us so many parts of the Canyon. I saw it in person in 1980 and this brought back some good memories. One thing I would have liked would be less short editing cuts and more longer flight sequences. I am really sorry you had a run-in with the American Police State. I would never want to go to the USA any more, not until they change their police state mentality... not going to happen soon I am afraid.
Is there a large island that we can all go live at, where the reasonably smart, live and let live people can live. I am so tired of being under a government and around people that are so out of touch with reality...
This is a truly beautiful video, the NPS should just create guidelines so you just have to register to do this sort of thing, kind of like a backwoods camping permit(set some guidlines)
One place you missed on your USA trip was Yosemite, - maybe Grand Canyon ruined that part though
I guess a lot of us, fans, have thought at least once about you going as a next step, on Himalaya. Would you dare, at least in theory, to challenge Mount Everest? I would guess you need a smaller prop at higher rpm to counteract the rare atmosphere at 8000m+ What do you think?

If you were being charged with a criminal offense, yes you better show up! If you are charging someone with a crime you report it to the DA or Attorney General and they will press charges. If you want to force someone to return stolen property, as is the case here, then you would institute a civil suit based on criminal conduct. You can charge a government official civilly if they acted outside their scope of authority/employment. My guess is that this is exactly what happened here.
