I think I like the extras more than main content, James just rambling on is super amusing.
The amount of stuff you can learn from James is almost unending, you learn more from him than the some of the pointless stuff you do in school now a days. I could listen to him for a considerable amount of time.
+Chris Oliver Yes, musicians seem to be smart people. I am talking about musicians like James May, not show business musicians. May doesn't probably make any money out of music, but his musical skill learned over the years, seemed to have created so many brain connections, that the learns and retains other fact rather swiftly and brilliantly. Plus the way he talks is beautiful. Nice to see a successful man who truly deserves it. Of course some douchbag had to fire him from an automotive magazine, probably being afraid that James May would eventually take over his job. Yeah, that's probably why James May was fired. He was simply too smart.
James May would be an awesome drinking buddy.
How It's Made is Canadian.
To the British, Canada and America are the same....both in North America.
James, glass makers were made to move to Murano because of the risk of fires. Sort of a hazard quarantine for the high heat glass shops and furnaces.
« but life is cheap in the suburbs. *awkward silence* » you're the best :-) excellent acting
now i know what jeremy clarkson is talking about.....Zzzz
A lot of stuff is in French...
You don't catch the English proclaiming, "UK of NI and GB, baby"
James May, a genuinely likeable fun guy.
My glass 'fact', at least I've heard, beer bottles often use glass of a dark colour because beer is photo-sensitive. It goes bad if exposed to light
Correct.
When exposed to light it basically strips the nuances away. There’s a chemical reaction within it which leaves, quite literally, chemicals of the same order as that of a skunk’s spray.
Desperados, Corona, Sol etc all have a similar taste. This is because they all come in clear glass bottles instead of darkened glass, and therefore this process has already occurred.
This is why people put lime in those drinks; to mask the skunky smell.
Can we plz have an episode about glass eyes?
Interesting. I always thought glass was made from purified unicorn tears heated by setting mouse farts on fire.
How its made is CANADIAN!!!!!
You sure have alot of knowledge.
Im going to love soaking up as much as I can.
Only recently found your channel, but Im loving it so far :)
marbles use to be made out of marble
I gotta say I watch Top Gear and love it. And I thought that they had James May over analyze stuff purposely. For comdey and dramatic effect. But I am astounded and pleased to know that he really does know a lot and can remember all of this information. Thank You James May. Very very very impressive. And thanks for all the knowledge. Keep on doing these Head Squeeze episodes. Please. Dont worry about the na sayers/haters. There are people who appreciate greatly the info. Thank You.
If you were listening, he actually did. No, not all glass is made of sand.
Just because he didn't give a simple 'Yes' or 'No', it doesn't mean he didn't answer the question. These kind of answers not only tell you what you wanted to know, but also delve further into the question and inform you of what glass is made of; aside from sand.
Traditional glass used in windows in houses is made of sand. Also, ever seen the guys who blow glass into bubbles? They use sand for that glass too.
James may might know this but i really want to know how you can make big flashes in balloons if you use both your hands to rub them in a certain way.. i seen it happen once at a wedding by a older guy who was like 60 something and he made this balloon produce flashes of light inside before it got too stressed and popped.. would really love it if james may could explain how it happens and how to redo it
It would cause compacted nano-splynths within the surface boundary of the glass. These would then cause victarian* fractures to occur deep within the now hardened, inner-substrate of the anomorphus silified material (known as glass).
*once famed glass materiologist - google him...
If I where James's son.. I can see that I'd be really fucking smart and if I ever got insulted I could just hit them with alot of facts and they would go away.. Dont know why but I wish James May was my teacher, uncle, close friend of my dad or something. I think it would be great fun!
If I'm ever unfortunate enough to lose an eye, I won't wear a synthetic one, I'd wear a black leather eye patch instead. It looks so much cooler. However high-tech the synthetic eye is, you can still tell it's fake.
then you should bother to read the video title which clearly says "Extras" as in the video extra for episode 11 and NOT episode 11 itself which does have the glass facts. Guess it's easier to post a comment then to read.
It's like during the News segments of Top Gear when James starts to share facts, and the other two shout him down, but without the annoying shouting-down. In other words, informative and entertaining!
He never really answered the question, did he? He discussed the different types of glass but not what they are made out of. He only stated that sugar glass is not made from sand, but the rest are.
When you end up in front of the fire in the pub at the foot of Snowdon, with cold winds outside...this is the guy you want to find sitting there waiting for you to buy him a pint.
So is a show made in Scotland a English show? or is a show made in Mexico a American show? American's are different than Canadians and Mexicans very different people!
What about the sand Dude? Thanks for the video!
Can you actually do live webcam captures on TH-cam? If so could you do a live Q&A webcam with James sometime? Where people submit question comments with him answering them.
ok so was the question answered? i watched it 2 times and didnt hear it... is glass made from sand? not different types of glass lol, guess ill just google it
use specialized long-handled tools, to build the ship inside the bottle. sounds easy eh lol if u try good luck with that il kiss ye if ye can do it lol aarrggh
You forgot crystal glass. I once saw a glass piccolo, sounded fine, but as it was transparent, seeing saliva inside it after it was played, wasn't so nice.
Some say he puts the sun to sleep and he effectively put the Stig into a coma. All we know hes called James May. But seriously he still pretty awesome.
On my 10th birthday, they did that opening a champagne bottle with a sword thing for me when we were in Champdeniers in France, but the cork got away unfortunately, I want to go back there and see if my bottle's still above the bar... :)
I turned on the subtitles, and at 1:32, James apparently says "nobody can go into the full of shit about it", whatever that means.
Saber Champagne : /watch?v=VdXwcsZyI-I
Yes, it is possible, and yes. It is HARD.
And it doesn't needs a razor sharp knife.
That was during his Wine Adventures with Oz Clarke (can't remember which episode). Not sure if there's a clip on TH-cam or not.
search "Prince Ruperts Drop" on youtube.. another awesome glass fact
the channel smartereveryday has a cool video on this
A fact that I was hoping for : Prince Rupert's Drops. A piece of glass which is cooled down rapidly by dropping them in cold water causing one side to be so strong it's pretty much impossible to break even with a hammer. They do however often have a small part that (when broken) will cause the whole "drop" to shatter in a million pieces.
Watching other shows from James May opens up a whole new world behind the man people see on Top Gear. Awesome chap.
and i like to point out it was no trick.. he really did make it flash and i have no idea how he ever done it
James May along with Sir David Attenborough are two best things that could happen to british TV
I've opened a couple of wine bottles by pushing the cork in, it's hard but none of it was spilled in the end...
Dr May founder of the niles primary source, thank you for sharing your knowlage with us :)
Ohmygod! I love How It's Made! I can't believe James and I enjoy the same programs.. :-)
funny as hell, James you never cease to amaze me, this is better than the original video
How It's Made is Canadian made, I think. Someone feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.
How are boats in a bottle made? I was given one and i cant get my head around it!
On these videos the sound and video always seem to be marginally out of sync :/
It's brilliant how he just keeps talking. I love it. Could listen to it all day
james may is pretty much awesome in any shows either topgear or toy stories
Lol, "I've watched this on How Its Made" hahaha I've seen that episode :)
how does James have the time to film TopGear, Toy Stories, and this show!
Thanks HeadsqueezeTV for only resonding to the most irrelevent post here!
Lol what's the purpose of the green screen if you're not going to use it?
Yes. Among other things. But the main component is silica aka sand.
I'll raise my glass to this clip! Whatever my glass is made of...
I liked how he looked out for help when he got lost for words!
So is glass made from sand? love your work James but come on!
it's still encyclopedia. Wikipedia is a digital encyclopedia.
Well, it's amorphic..so it is a solid, just non-crystalline
Nice add on: it is still in liquid state by chemical rules.
*overly manly man*
Glass?
you must mean chewing crystals.
Im glad he found the source of the nile well done james!
You could've talked about Philip Glass. But you didn't.
James May mentioned How It's Made? My life is complete.
He did in the accompanying video. This is the "extras"
Double glazing? Difference between glass and crystal?
Glass is actually a solid liquid.... Look it up.
Do they get silica from sand or do they mine it?
weirdest lift ride ever.
Did he even answer the question from his title?
Its made from bananas.
can u pls talk about evolution and creation?
Love James' stream of consciousness videos
i want to know more about borosilicate glass
Was he ever on QI? If so I must see this!
How it's made comes in an English version
keep it up ,lot of things to learn .thanks!
Why isn't James May on QI more often?
lol good stuff, you forgot glass jaw.
Jeremy Clarkson would die of boredom.
sorry i moved on to the digital age.
WtF? he didn't answer the question!
I don't think is "fast" enough :-)
DAMN

Smart Spaniel you are Mr. May!
What about glasses for ur eyes
Jeremy Clarkson disliked this.
