      Wwnever called cake..just "cubes" of various sorts..some straight alfalfa, all the way to straw!(for something overly chubby but needing *something* to munch on anyways.. keeps the tummy active hopefully with out adding poundage orted unwanted nutrients. Granted THAT'S usually the overly chubby pony that could (WAY TOO easily) founder if he/she got nutrients and sugar/starch...not the best, but the best WE CAN do at the time to keep him/her content without adding anymore stress to their body.😉🙃

    I am so hooked on “Wyoming Life”. You are so lucky to live the good life. I’m sure there are ups and downs but it is such a beautiful life. Your wife is fortunate to share this. Plus she is married to a handsome rancher also.

    when I grew up on the farm the saying was about all our four legged friends pigs, sheep, cows, deer and goats we had them all - a fence is a suggestion and an open gate is an invitation

    We do that a lot on our place to. Only difference is our cattle are hiding in the brush. All ways feels good when you finally find them

    Reed from RodeoReed in Az installed a siren on his truck and uses the siren to call the cow in when he cakes his cows back in his vast pastures. Maybe that would work for you.

    1) Great Practice for hunting around; a bitta headache.
    2) Good evaluation/analysis of whole herd.
    3) Good workout for the heart/ticker
    4) FUN NATURE

    Put up a hot wire along the bottom of the fence 6in off the ground for the pigs, you can get solar powered boxes no more pig break outs. Aldo add some toys they are getting out because the are bored

    If your gonna have hogs. You have to put your fence wire in a concrete footing. Only thing that will stop them from getting out.

    Hey Mike, have you thought of using electric fence for the pigs? Running a couple strands in front of the corral boards might help.

    Your friend Tammy is so correct. I retired and bought a small farm and when the wife asks what I have planned for the day I answer fix a few things that are going to go wrong. Love the way the pigs run back to the pen when they are spotted.

    Getting out amongst your cows also gives you a close up look at them for such things as pink eye or injuries, and of course to build trust.
    I was almost sure if the pigs got out 1 more time they were gonna be very tender ham & bacon 😉

    You need to make a mud area for the pigs so they can cool off . Just run a hose they will do the reat

    Do you have one of those rocky outcroppings where you can dig for dinosaur bones? My husband watches a TH-cam rancher, in WYO, who does that. Looks very interesting. And, if you find the right thing there could be a huge payoff when you sell it.

    I like feed by bucket. Most my cattle I can pet while there eating. When weaning I spend 30 ish mins every day trying to tame the replacement heifers. I just like calm cattle. It also comes in hand when I have a cow with a bad eye. Today I think I spotted the start of pink eye.

    Honk your horn every time you feed your cows. They will associate the honking with food. So when you drive around looking for the cows, just honk your horn. They will come to you. Well, they will come for the food. It's nothing personal.

    I was beginning to wonder there for a minute. Did someone take the cows? I'll bet next time you won't forget the drone. My father has pigs and seeing your pigs out made me feel like I wasat home.     We've never had our pigs escape. We put 1 string of hot wire down towards the bottom and never had an issue.

    Barley seed fodder is an excellent source of protein that could really help y'all with the shortage of useable grass and cutdown the cost of buying hay

    A horn or siren, or some noise maker along with regular cake and they will always come running from miles away. Just don’t get why you don’t use that on your ranch. We always have used it with great success

    You know, perhaps adding a piglets roundup for your ranch visitors as a heath club activity might be fun, lol. Love it when one cow starts moving towards the cake patch, others take off, good training. Could an electronic tag, if that gadget exists be on one cow to help start to find them? So tough to be on you own, keep on trucking, thanks for sharing.

    Speaking as a long time hog farmer, Mike, I would strongly recommend a single hot wire, at about nose height or slightly lower inside your pen. Hard part is probably getting a decent ground rod into your soil.

    You should come up with some kind of a small solar-powered device that lights a strobe every now and then and attach it to a halter-broke cow. That way, especially in the evening, you could always find the herd with a pair of binoculars. Just look for the burst of light.

    From Northern Alberta, Canada. If I could I’d send some of our rain to you guys we have away too much! Can’t cut hay because fields are too wet and even if we get it cut it doesn’t stop raining long enough to dry and bale. Love watching your videos.
