I worked summers at Canobie Lake Park 1963-1966. I remember when they bought & installed the Rubiks Cube light/speaker system. The Wurlitzer Band Organ, Model 153 on the Merry-go-Round is the original organ on that ride I believe. A special band organ maintenance man would come from out of state yearly to check & replace payers as needed. During my time working at Canobie I had the opportunity to go back stage at the Ballroom where I’d see old posters on the was of musical groups (1940s +) that had entertained there. I had seen Herman’s Hermits & The Searchers play at the Ballroom. Other groups I remember that played there were The Loving Spoonful, The Who, & Gene Pitney, Sonny & Cher (I saw them walking through the park by the wooden structure roller coaster). These were all Friday night events with WBZ Radio personality Dave Maynard as program host. I had also attended a high school prom at the Ballroom. The windows overlooking Canobie Lake offer a nice view of the Lake during evening events. Wednesday nights was fireworks night.
Fun fact about the caterpillar ride at Canobie: The caterpillar ride used to be a very common ride in the US after it’s debut in the 1920s. However, there are only two remaining caterpillar rides in the US, including the one at Canobie.

Ok I'm sorry to spam, I just keep remembering things: The corkscrew is actually an Arrow Dynamics corkscrew design, and there are only 10 left still in operation! We're lucky to have it! Couple things you could've included, the original stone entrance over by the Mexican restaurant over by the dance hall I believe( there is a plaque somewhere over there ) the carousel is one of the oldest park attractions.. built in 1903 and I believe brought to the park in 1906. Thanks for the info!! I was going to include the original entrance as a bonus fact but just decided not to. I mentioned something about the carousel in the previous Canobie Lake Park video. Huh I never put 2 and 2 together! Now seeing Policy everywhere makes sense lol

I work at Canobie Lake Park on the Grounds crew. I went by that spot several times practically evrey morning this summer while helping to get the park ready to open each day, and somehow I never noticed this light pole was even there, nevermind that it had a unique top. I will have to go take a look tomorrow!
Awesome! You guys do a fantastic job keeping up with the park!! Canobie Lake Park always looks so clean and pristine. You will never look at a simple light pole the same way ever again haha
Been there 100's of times and never noticed or knew the history of the '64 light. Excited to go back and see it (if its still there 4 years after this video was posted). I've also ridden that spaceship many times, was my fav ride as a kid.
I totally forgot to include that in the video! Most of them are near the light pole too!! Hey that might mean will have to do five more secrets in the future
Wow great video! You mean the fountain I’m talking about right at the start? That is in fact a fountain not the kiddie canoe ride that is found on the complete opposite side of the park
I'm so happy they still have the old nickelodeons in the old train station 7:48 I remember going on the Space Shuttle ride and frankly it was pretty lame. If memory serves, there was a little round screen at the tip that had a video emulation of space travel. It also tilted about 45 degrees up to make it feel like you were about to take off lol Pretty cheesy, as was the Vertigo Theater, which was next to the Paratroopers ride (kind of near the Psychodrome) Didn't know about the 1964 World's Fair light! Very cool!
I’m glad they kept them as well. Yeah I’ll take the old school cheesy rides over the pre built cookie cutter stuff. Pretty cool that they have that worlds fair light :)
I've been in that rocket ship ride. It was a carnival flat ride. I remember a carnival had one when I was a little kid and I got to ride it. There were a four rows of small seats in it. The walls were carpet. There was a small rear projection movie screen in the front. The rocket tipped up at less then a 45 degree angle and would rotate side to side. It would have been cool if it could barrel roll and send us upside down, but it didn't. It just rocked back and forth. I recall the movie they showed in the front being a complete goofball comedy. They were trying to launch us to the moon, but the rocket went out of control and ended up flying through all kinds of crazy places, like down streets, and through people's houses and stuff while terrified people dodged out of the way. I remember specifically someone opening the front door to their house and us flying right in, up the stars, through the rooms, and out a window, causing chaos the whole way. They definitely went for "goofy comedy" with that rocket ride. I think that there are still operators running that ride too, but instead of using the movie projector and rear projection screen, they just hung a flat screen TV in front of the screen and the video it plays is probably on a computer in it on a hard drive or somethin.
Great video, must be a blast from the past for people who would remember those things. We used to vacation to Storyland, Six Gun City, Clarks, and Santas Village in NH quite often when i was a kid but i've never been to this place. Thanks for sharing! #rubixcube64light
I still hope they can revive Toys r Us I’ve only been there 2 Times Cause when I grow up I wanted to take my future children or child to that place but it’s no more sadly I feel bad for the next Generation 😢
I think about that rocket ship ride from time to time (that's what brought me here). It was so bizarre cause they marketed it still as like a 'ride of the future' (I probably last went on it in like 1998) but the video was literally a 1920s silent film, like "A trip to the moon" or something very similar. What a funk old park...
Canobie arcade used to have crane games in big glass cube structures about 2 1/2 feet tall. The prizes were packs of cigarettes & zippo lighters. Even though I was a kid, I still wanted to try to win them. Never was allowed to play though. I know the cigs were still there in the mid 80's. I'm curious what year they finally phased them out.
The new station if I’m remembering correctly was always there as a second station. Shame they shortened it fir the water park nobody even goes to. I remember the train going through the line of the corkscrew and always thinking that was so cool
Let’s see not included were the paratrooper ride, the hall of mirrors, the rockin roller coaster, the swimming pool, there was another spinning ride where starblaster is, I believe the viewing theatre by where the casino is was removed as well
If anyone who is watching this in 2022, the area around the fountain ie the path was getting fixed. As someone who currently works at canobie, the gift shops in the park were originally owned by separate people, and almost all the gift shops besides the one next to the Boston tea party are owned by the park.
Everyones talking of how they've gone there and im over here in a boring town 😂i do go to México tho theres alot of interesting things there anyways, nice vid ben.Keep it up! Btw yu should go to a trip to mexico for a vid that would be cool

They use to have the Komsomo-Jet cars in the backwoods but they either sold them off or people went into the woods and took them. By the way, my first visit to CLP was in 1969!
There was a moon orbiter ride. It had red and blue cars and they orbited a moon, I think where Starblaster is now... then there was that rocket ship that raised upward as you sat and they played a dumb movie and that was where the Bear coaster is now. Paratroopers were where Skater is now. I only know rides from 1993 and onward that were replaced. Before that I think they had the scrambler, but not sure where it was...They had the Galaxy Coaster...I think that's part of the water park now. They also got rid of the Corkscrew. Glass maze is gone too! Pool is gone.
i have been living and going to this park my whole life and the only time i seen the inside of the dance hall was like 1980's when i snuck in as a preteen never knew they opened it up agian granted i havent been since they opened up untamed and even than i think they where still blding it lol
I do, and never understood why an amusement park had one when you could just go to the one in your town-I wanted to ride the rides, not swim lol...but yeah, I remember it
Michael and Elvis only come once or twice a year, and there's actually a bunch of groupies in their 70's who follow the preformers around where they tour
"USA Missle" was what the rocket ship ride was called IIRC (that's what we always called it at least). Objectively terrible ride, especially the state it was in in the late 90s/early 2000s-the video they showed was nearly incomprehensible, garbled sound, washed out cheesy old visuals, and I remember it getting cut off halfway through like the ride timing was set too short/off from synching with the video. My friend and I used to love going on it just to riff on it and make fun of it. I distinctly remember one time the teenager who was working the ride just putting his head down in utter defeat and boredom while the ride was running, which we found extra hilarious. Great times.
Haha some of those little shitty rides are the best!! And then it just adds to the experience “hey let’s go in this to just make fun of it” 🤣 totally something my friends and I would do too!!
YES THE HASHTAG 😂 thanks for staying till the end. Don’t worry I wasn’t there the 17th so you didn’t miss me lol. Maybe you’ll catch me there next time :)

I don’t know it sounds corny but kind of cool 🤣 I wish I got to ride it.. I always saw the display way back in the day and wondered what it was
i work here. never noticed that light lol. and i got lunch right there at the trellis all the time
Haha no way! That’s too funny
First also hi Ben.
Neat, enjoy the video
Ben Laurence I did!
Oh and I forgot #rubicscube64light :D
Nobody cares. And no you wernt. I was.
love the lamp post!
Great video, must be a blast from the past for people who would remember those things. We used to vacation to Storyland, Six Gun City, Clarks, and Santas Village in NH quite often when i was a kid but i've never been to this place. Thanks for sharing! #rubixcube64light
Thanks man!! New Hampshire has some great parks. I miss Six Gun City a lot :( Thanks for staying till the end 😃
@@BenLaurence Six Gun City was my favorite as a kid! But it wasn't the same when I took my own kid there shortly before it switched..
Great video
Thank you
I was on the train when i was little. It drove all around the park
I still hope they can revive Toys r Us I’ve only been there 2 Times
Cause when I grow up I wanted to take my future children or child to that place but it’s no more sadly
I feel bad for the next Generation
😢
Hi this video is not related to Toys “R” Us but I hope you enjoy
Ben Laurence I know I just wanted to express how I felt about Toys r us closing that’s all
Also the video was great
You make great content
Night
And why this video
OvP_ Skully idk
Toys R Us went bankrupt and all their holding were sold off at auction.
woah i never even knew they moved the train station i remember so clearly getting on the train there.
Yeah kind of weird that they moved it. The ride is so short now
@@BenLaurence Like you said at least they kept it. I know many an amusement park to sadly remove theirs.
Let’s see not included were the paratrooper ride, the hall of mirrors, the rockin roller coaster, the swimming pool, there was another spinning ride where starblaster is, I believe the viewing theatre by where the casino is was removed as well
Let’s see where did it say I have to include EVERYTHING 😂
Ben Laurence just re living my childhood lol
GlaciatedProductions haha I hear ya! I’m just giving you crap
If anyone who is watching this in 2022, the area around the fountain ie the path was getting fixed.
As someone who currently works at canobie, the gift shops in the park were originally owned by separate people, and almost all the gift shops besides the one next to the Boston tea party are owned by the park.
You are right about the direction of the train, which went around the park
I have never been there I'm driving down to go with the family this weekend looks fun but I'm going to have to find the 64 World Fair light post
Was wondering if you knew about the light poles! Some of the trash barrels were from the NY Worlds Fair as well. Not sure they are still there though.
Yeah I was going to mention the trash cans but I’m not sure which ones are left 🤔 cool they stuff lave some of the 64 fair history at the park
Is that caterpillar ride with the green canvas covered top still there? ( also that is pretty cool about the pole from the '64 world's fair)
Yup its still here and operating daily!
THIS WAS VERY INTERESTING. I MISS OLD TRAIN GOING ROUND WATER IT WAS LAST GREAT YEAR 1998 WITH MY MOM. WHATMEMORY. SHE PASSED 7 YEARS AFTER
I've been on that rocket ride. Tilted up with a movie inside. You sat in little metal seats
Sound pretty cool, love old school rides like that
@@BenLaurence it was air conditioned. Nice place to cool off.
Ya I don’t talk about the old glass mirror maze when I was a kid and got a bloody nose inside it lol
Lol
Everyones talking of how they've gone there and im over here in a boring town 😂i do go to México tho theres alot of interesting things there anyways, nice vid ben.Keep it up! Btw yu should go to a trip to mexico for a vid that would be cool

You should do more canobie lake videos
If you go to the Mexican restaurant near the sky ride you can see part of the original entrance to the park from 1902
That place has the best nachos lol. I don’t know it was right there. I thought it was a little further 🤔
#rubixcube64light pretty cool! I do not think I had ever been to this looks pretty cool!
YES! Thanks for staying till the end
They use to have the Komsomo-Jet cars in the backwoods but they either sold them off or people went into the woods and took them. By the way, my first visit to CLP was in 1969!
Awesome! I bet there are a lot of cool things hidden in the woods at Canobie Lake Park
I live right next to there it’s crazy to me people can’t bike there and it’s so crazy for them to go there
Of course you can’t ride a bike there 😅
I think I remember that space ship when I was a kid. #rubixcube64 thanks for sharing. Pretty interesting. Going here today
Thank you for staying till the end :) hope you had fun at Canobie Lake!!!
The “canobie gifts” thing Infront of the dance hall is to all the vendors that pay the owner of the park to sell merchandise ~ a coni is employee
#rubicscube64light Wealways used to go to this park to meet up with relatives
Thanks so much for staying till the end 😃
There was a moon orbiter ride. It had red and blue cars and they orbited a moon, I think where Starblaster is now... then there was that rocket ship that raised upward as you sat and they played a dumb movie and that was where the Bear coaster is now. Paratroopers were where Skater is now. I only know rides from 1993 and onward that were replaced. Before that I think they had the scrambler, but not sure where it was...They had the Galaxy Coaster...I think that's part of the water park now. They also got rid of the Corkscrew. Glass maze is gone too! Pool is gone.
Duuude the glass maze was awesome! Rumor has it, they have the whole maze stashed in one of the buildings in the back of the park
i have been living and going to this park my whole life and the only time i seen the inside of the dance hall was like 1980's when i snuck in as a preteen never knew they opened it up agian granted i havent been since they opened up untamed and even than i think they where still blding it lol
I remember back in 2010 they had a swimming pool inside the entrance of the park
I remember the rocket. I remember being too chicken shit to go in it and ride the ride.
Was the extreme frisbee open
Of course not 😂
It was just open
TheFakeSavage idk really? I haven’t seen it open in years haha
I know it broke down a few times when I was there it wasn’t ruining the best and it was packed
It’ll
The 2 story carousel is called the Venetian Carousel
Cool
Anyone remember the pool that use to be near the ferris wheel
I don’t think I remember that one 🤔
Was my favorite thing there when I was little.
Walk in the main gate and it was right to the left
Ray Florent EXACTLY!!! Im only 22 an i remember
I do, and never understood why an amusement park had one when you could just go to the one in your town-I wanted to ride the rides, not swim lol...but yeah, I remember it
I laughed when you mentioned the red face. I too hate people with red faces too so weird that someone else has that in common with me. Cool though.😂😅
Michael and Elvis only come once or twice a year, and there's actually a bunch of groupies in their 70's who follow the preformers around where they tour
Yeah I remember when they were there all the time. Lol that’s too funny
I'll let the michael jackson fan/kiddie park joke write itself...but i love canobie.
😭😭
The train used to go around the whole parek
Not the entire park ;)
Did the psychodrome ever play fire on high by ELO?
I remember when it had a swimming pool
#rubixcube64worldsfair
Also I did watch when it came out
The video
Thank you 😃
They are making a double decker carou
Yes I mentioned it in my vlog from Canobie Lake Park th-cam.com/video/SgavM4v1SL8/w-d-xo.html
#rubicscube64light wait I went on July 17th, if u went the same day...and I missed u, then UGH!!
YES THE HASHTAG 😂 thanks for staying till the end. Don’t worry I wasn’t there the 17th so you didn’t miss me lol. Maybe you’ll catch me there next time :)
Ben Laurence That would be awesome if I saw you
#rubixcube64light ! Might be a year late but still enjoyed the video!
YES thanks for sticking till the end
