    U.S. Tour 1978. Original sound-Sonido original. Johnny Rotten (John Lydon) Steve Jones Paul Cook Sid Vicious

      This is from a clip of a movie called "DOA"...the guy sneaked into different gigs on the tour and made some sort of an arrangement with either Malcolm or the band...I asked Steve Jones about it and he said the guy was a crook...this is dubbed with the audio from the San Francisco concert by the way...

He also made a very macabre documentary about Johnny Thunders called “Born To Lose: The Last Rock and Roll Movie”, and he also made the Dee Dee Ramone documentary “Hey is Dee Dee Home?”. I know a few people who have worked with him in the past, and by all accounts he’s a weird dude, but I’ve never heard anyone say he was a ‘crook’ until now. D**n. This was from just 1 year before I was born, in 1979. I can't think of any other band that only released 1 studio album, and that were together for such a short length of time, but have been such an inspiration to so many other bands. Not only that, but to still be so loved, by so many later Generations, even now, in 2024, and after all these years, too, that really says so much right there. They really were incredible, and such a killer band, especially when performing live. Have always wished that they hadn't imploded, as a band, because who knows what they might've ended up doing later on in their career. On a sidenote, JR had them ninja skills at 1:22 in, and dodged the h**l out of whatever was thrown at him! 🙂

      I’m guessing you meant that as sarcasm, but in all fairness Steve had only been playing guitar for about two years at the time this was filmed. He was pretty damn good for being so new to it, plus he was completely self-taught. Paul may not have been a flashy, busy drummer, but he’s rock solid on time, and had a style all his own that was highly recognizable. They weren’t Emerson, Lake, & Palmer (thankfully)… but for a bunch of kids who had only been playing their instruments for a couple of years they were pretty damn competent.

It’s not their most exciting gig from this tour, but they’re in fine form and like I said the audio is good. I used to own a VHS copy of it many years ago, so I know it’s been around in circulation. I wish. At this point I can say with complete certainty that there is not. I’ve been hunting for any form of bootleg of this legendary, historical gig for well over 40 years, and all I’ve ever seen or heard is clips like this one. This one here is actually the best of the bunch, by far. I grew up in Houston, only a three hour drive away from San Antonio, but I was a bit too young to go to this show. However I know several people who did go, and their stories all match up. This one was one for the history books.

      I’m pretty sure the footage your buddy filmed made its way to a bootleg VHS that I used to own many years ago. It was the full set. Good quality. You couldn’t really hear the bass, but I’m pretty sure that was intentional. I lost my tape of that decades ago, but I would have to think someone has uploaded it to YT by now.

      @slashtrio 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +7

      I believe they were. Which is interesting since they certainly were obviously influenced by them to some extent, particularly Steve Jones. I love Steve, he was my first guitar hero, but as an adult I leaned about the dolls and then Johnny thunders and the heartbreakers. Steve is really just playing like Johnny and even took on his mannerisms. And sid singing “something else” and “come on everybody” sounds suspiciously like thunders vocal style. But rotten was definitely not like the dolls, not glam obviously but definitely still into shock and outrage. Incidentally Malcolm, McLaren manger the dolls before the pistols. Very cool to see all those old footage. As a kid I only saw pictures and of course sid and Nancy.

      @@slashtrio That's well an exaggeration. The band was started by Wally Nightingale with Paul and Steve. The played The Faces, The Who and pub rock sort of stuff. Did Steve like the Dolls? Sure, but he took a long time to get it right playing any guitar at all. Meanwhile Glen Matlock wrote the songs and he was into the Beatles and admitted he ripped off a tune from ABBA. John is trashing The Dolls and Johnny Thunders because he hated them. No the least for bringing heroin into the London scene. Steve wasn't such a fan of the Dolls that he cared. Malcolm had nothing to do with the music. It was Steve who begged him to put money into it.
