Honda CR-V 7-seater 2024 review: VTi L7 turbo | Better than Mitsubishi Outlander and Nissan X-Trail?

- The 2024 Honda CR-V mid-size SUV has made waves in Australia since its launch earlier this year, impressing with its strong combination of style, technology, practicality, performance and efficiency, including the all-important availability of a hybrid powertrain.
That said, most of the CR-V's available variants are of the five-seat variety, which is a seating configuration that's common in its segment. However, there are also seven-seat versions, which are few and far between for vehicles in this size category. To that end, the three-row Mitsubishi Outlander and Nissan X-Trail are the key rivals here.
In this expert review, CarsGuide Contributing Journalist Emily Agar and her family of three spend a week living with the CR-V's VTi L7 to find out just well the Japanese model stacks up as a seven-seater. After all, the new-generation model is larger than its predecessor, so it should be an improvement.

Great work mate 👍
Just ordered the hybrid today cant wait
your reviews are insightful, well done!
I took one for a test drive. VERY VERY IMPRESSED Quality components and you feel like you are in control of the car. Heavy steering which gives you better precision. I was worried about the engine size but pushed it around and actually felt like it responded instant no lag. The third row is so much smart to enter and the head rest was great unlike the rabbit ears outlander. Very hard to enter the third row for the outlander. Honestly Honda styling is back and their quality is the best alongside Subaru as the top Japan car companies -lexus and infinite ofcourse. I felt really really happy with the crv during my test drive I'm just working out what colour .. I'm leaning to the blue colour. Great review
I don’t have money to buy a car but I had to subscribe because this review is absolutely amazing. Well done! OMG!!! By subscribing I’ll receive notifications of other cars’ reviews… the cars I don’t afford 😅
i think this is really the best video i've ever seen, i am lowkey impressed🍉🍉
The pricing has gone bonkers . $53,000 for a Honda SUV with a CVT no AWD and a small third row , no thanks .
Looks amazing but they're starting to really creep up in price
Nice review. 1.5L turbo 4 cylinder! Isn't it bit small for this size, 7 seat suv?
Hey Tusshhar. This CR-V’s engine is typical of the current crop of small, turbocharged units where it’s the performance rather than the capacity that counts. This four cylinder’s peak torque of 240Nm is available from 1700rpm all the way to 5000rpm, so there’s plenty of pulling power across the mid-range. Honda’s ‘VTEC’ variable valve timing helps keep the engine in its sweet spot, too.
It got the turbo it has power let's be real they not going more then 30 mph
Hows 3rd row access with that forward car seat installed?
The problem I have with this type of 7 seater review is why not review it with full occupants on board and then tell us the experience
1.5 engine with a cvt of that price, no wonder why Honda’s sale numbers dropped significantly 😅
This will never compete unless they offer the hybrid to the lower models.
Little boxes on the hillside
Little boxes made of ticky-tacky
Little boxes on the hillside
Little boxes all the same
There's a green one and a pink one
And a blue one and a yellow one
And they're all made out of ticky-tacky
And they all look just the same
Lol good one
Why didn’t you get in the third row? What was the point of this.
I think she demonstrated the 3rd row well enough. OK for young kids but if you're an adult, prepare to squish!
Seems really screwed in the US we don't get a 3rd row seat option or a panorama moonroof as a option. You have to buy a much larger Pilot to get a 3rd row...🤷
Honda ❤❤❤
Looks like a Rav4 from front..the headlights and the design!
Drove it and the engine is loud... quite the grumbler. This is poor refinement at this price point so a big no from me.
AUSTRALIA & SOUTH AFRICA SHOULD RECEIVE ZR-V & UR-V THIS NEW MODEL WILL BE IN SOUTH AFRICA MZANSI SOON .
They already have ZRV
For 53k you could just buy the Pilot
Not in aus you can’t
Hi hello 👋
Somewhat bland in looks, nothing Unique. Trim and equipment matches rivals, i wouldn't trade my 22 outlander for it, the 2.5L AWD clocked a 5.8L /100ks last week ,whilst it averages 7-8L/100ks normally. Nothing swayed me towards the Honda, Just as the Eclipse 1.5 L turbo didn't either.
Style will always be subjective. Those who like this clean upscale look of the new crv will most likely hate the polarizing design of mitsubishi and hyundai. I for one didnt buy the previous model crv (while in the market for a vehicle) because it screams soccer-mom look.
This might sound somewhat vain ,but! i bought for the AWD, Sunroof and opening function, white/grey leather trim ,10 speaker stereo. Style was the last thing i was concerned with, plus i have used the main dealer to service my prior car ,a BF Fairlane. They are a good team, and always helpful. It took well over a month to come to terms with the quick steering and confidence enough to throw it into a corner, but! it has won me over, happy buyer ,no regrets. As was the old Yamaha motto, Different strokes for different folks.
Looks very ordinary🤔
