Community college, baby! If you don’t have any money, buy/choose accordingly.

Try to get your kid into dual enrollment classes. Look into your kids school district. They will likely need to stay in state and go public. They can start college as a sophomore or junior.
Edit: I say this from experience. I tool dual enrollment in high school. I entered college as a sophomore and graduated early ten years ago.

If I never had the academic scholarships I earned, I would have never been able to buy a home as a millennial. College now is the price of a home loan.

It depends on the college you choose. My daughter is going to a state school cheaper than my private colleges 25 years ago. THAT was the price of a house. Today many students/parents are more savvy and shop around. We didn’t have the internet to teach us how to be more savvy plus the doomsday stories of people and their loans that are available today.

There needs to be a system where the Colleges have skin in the game beyond just convincing people to sign on the dotted line.
Example - College needs to be required to accept a payment plan of X% of Salary for graduates for Y Years of full-time employment. If the graduate becomes a successful professional in a rewarding field…...the college will make $$$$$$$. If the graduate is still serving up coffee at Starbucks with their worthless degree the college will get pennies back.
This will force colleges to ensure that degree programs are provide employable skills and that the students they accept are able to complete the program and be employable.
Schools that just take in S$$$$$$$ to hand out worthless paper will become much less a thing.

Make the colleges lower their tuition! Simple as that. It’s crazy how much college is.
