Little town I grew up in the roads were dirt. One year the county works came through and reconstructed the roads, some with curbing too. As a 7 yr old kid I was so excited watching these guys and the star of the show was the Cat grader. That was in 1967. Really enjoy your videos Warren.
When I was a kid our neighbor drove one like this one for the county.I would run to end of street he would let me ride but the fun part was wen we parked it I got to pull the leavers and let the blade down fond memories From a old road greater driver in Mississippi

Thank you for the video Warren, enjoying the continuous flow of them, I was about to watch another old Bill Dance fishing video until I came across some accidentally one's especially one while he was in the boat while the other guy was reversing the trailer into the lake only they forgotten to unstrapped the boat from the trailer and it nearly filled it full of water with Bill in it, I've never laughed rarely so hard seeing that when they'd quickly hit forward out of there. thanks again Warren.
The quill shafts break sometimes, be careful in the winter if water gets in those plantarys they will freezes it will break the shafts when you pull the levers
Hi ya Warren..Sounds like your kinda Partial toward the Knickerbusters for me I went the Galion Hyd way she got the ol'e UD TD SER. international Took some figuring on start value & mag timing but she fires everytime you know what it takes to keep this old iron running Just can't push or expect more than they can do 4 25yrs she's done me well..my RD-6 is down on the mtn. I need to get her home next & Fix her.keep it up Tanks for sharing your days..
The 14E is NOT a Knuckle Buster. They have smooth hydraulic controls. Anybody that calls them a Knuckle Buster has obviously never driven one. Different story about the 12's though.
I was wondering if our old Westinghouse grader had a bad planet or ring gear, it will bind once in a while but not seem to repeat in any particular section of the gear travel. Haven’t damaged any u joints yet but it came with a bent shaft. I’m betting it’s a snapped piece bouncing around and binding when it lands just right. Thanks for the free diag.

The “Air Chisel” (air hammer) can be one of the most useful tools you can have in your toolbox if it has a good trigger. I have owned cheap ones and expensive ones but the best one I have ever owned (and still own) is am American made CP 714 it has almost as much violent brute force of my Snap-On but the trigger is absolutely controllable. Quite literally I can bounce off single strokes with it, additionally the regulator actually works but doesn’t not stall the piston (hammer) the way pretty much every other Air Chisel I have owned or used. If when you buy one ditch the spring chisel retainer and get the solid style or if you feel rich get a quick change retainer which personally I don’t really like because they get in the way when working in tight spaces. When I am peeling off sheet metal on a something and slicing spot welds I generally don’t use a chisel retainer because I am constantly switching chisels but instead wear a leather glove and hold onto the chisel with my hand. I learned that technique from an old body man who was one of the best body and fender guys I have ever seen. Additionally Air Chisels are only as good as there chisels so don’t cheap out on them. As a rule Snap-on chisels are the best ones I have found new. That said I have a draw full of ones I have bought used that are equal or better than the ones I bought from Snap-On. The Chinese chisels are 999 out of 1000 times absolute junk because the steel they are made of is low grade garbage. That all said opinions are like anal orifices every body has one and this is mine. Any way of putting a tie-wrap on those drive tubes to cause a drip point from running completely to the shafts? Thanks for your time to share this video.
Old engines with in-line injection pumps almost always tend to hunt when at low idle. Usually it stops if you increase the rpm just a little. I guess it puts the worn surfaces in a slightly different relationship and takes the slack out

Knuckle buster is right .We had one that the lever would slap back and forth so bad you would have to take your foot and push on it to make it stop. Spent to many hours on it before wo got a 140g all Hyd

I think the broken gear jammed the whole assembly, broke the universal and unjammed when you took it off. It would probably be fine to just put it together if it were run by someone who cared. But you have cowboys out there jamming the controls. So replacing the gear(s) is probably the way to go. Thanks for recording you work!!

Looks like differential ring gears. Those 2 outer gears are probably a different tooth count by one tooth. That means the sun and planet set move many rotations to take up that one tooth difference. I have seen it in electric planetary low capacity winches. It is simple but works well until a tooth breaks off, jamming the gear train. Should be a relatively simple fix. Provided you can find parts. Like usual.

I can't say much about the cat's, in fact, when they started coming out with the "high" drives I stopped keeping up with them. I will say, the old cat's, they were made right, built tough. Low rpm's but high torque.

A little inspection probe would be handy for this gearbox. Like the one that works with your phone.

From the Waukeshas I've been around (granted most are 6 cylinder 293s and 310s) most of them tend to hunt around at a warm idle and "lope".

How did you manage without a forklift before warren your making good use of that all terrain job now
Oh the pits in the gears just acts like a oil groove helps hold the oil in there lol
Probably should check the oil condition in the other side before it leaves to being that side had water in it

That air hammer is worth its weight in gold.
You may need to clean the injectors in the loader, see white smoke from the exhaust. That's the funny Hunting sound probably.
I worked on one like that tried to fix it the one i had use pony motor start it, but they have slot for a starter
