    This series is great. So much better than those bartending shows with two or more people laughing raucously and bickering with each other the whole time.

    Fabulous cocktails! I am enjoying exploring Vermouth! The Negroni you made here looks fabulous to try and I love the reverse Martini sometimes! Sherry is also fun to explore, along with Gin, after mostly drinking wine, before getting in to spirits!! I love your videos! Please keep them coming!!

    I just bought the best fresh oranges I could find and it changes completely the impact of my garnishes today, The first cocktail I made way a Manhattan garnished with a big orange peel, the orange was really present and sweet on the nose and at the end of the cocktail I had a bit of twang and citrus complexity, man details are so important in a cocktail !
    I’m glad I’ve found your channel I’ll look at your gin cocktails tomorrow !
    Thanks

    man, the biggest asset of a bar really is a dedicade glass froster.
    I mean yes, I could put glas in the freezer, but the freezer is in the basement and after making the cocktail I would need one minute to go into the basement and get such a frozen glass

      I love watching these videos to get ideas. Kinda sucks if I'm actually looking for something I can make though, because if I'm missing 1 ingredient from 5/6 of the cocktails, it's a pain in the ass to figure that out.

    I recently tried this twist on the classic Negroni: The inside of the glass was rubbed with fresh ginger and on top of was floated a bar spoon of Lagavulin.

    Soo annoying when a drink has an obscure bitter, I mean, what other drink has peach bitters, if I was to remake that drink I would have to buy a whole bottle just to use it for myself once or twice!

      Also, you can purchase The Bitter Truth Bar Pack Bitters Set. It is a small set cost around 15€ and contains five small bottles(20ml or 2 cl) of different bitters; they also offer another set the Bitter Truth Traveller Set. A good way to get different bitters and not losing a fortune. Cheers

    I'm suddenly very curious to know how you would make a Jack and coke. Personally, I know that I like to go so far as to throw in some Triple Sec, but maybe an episode on longdrinks and how to spice them up, in general would be kind of cool.
    I say so, because while most of your fanbase does like the delicately balanced drinks you show here, some of them can be hard to make for somebody not used to alcohol, so something more basic could be a nice way to draw in viewers.

    • @futile-evenings
      @futile-evenings 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      novantha1 try stirring jack with a tspn of maple syrup and a dash of bitters (optional) with a lot of ice. then fill a tall glass all the way with ice. then pour the coke but not all the way, leave some space for the jack. then strain the jack cocktail and layer it on top of the coke. you will first get the smokey taste of Jack and as you go down you will get the cola so the drink gets fizzier and sweeter for those who are not big fans of the bitter. then garnish with a lemon wheel. plenty of ice well help neutralise the sweetness from the maple syrup and coke. you can also run the rim of the glass with lemon and dip one side in sea salt just a lil bit. enjoy

  • @postscript67

    Really good. I must try the first two. But can I just point out that the British pronunciation of vermouth puts the accent on the first syllable and pronounces the second "uth", as in Plymouth?

    A bit late to the party perhaps, but it seems like the Negroni variation you have there is more commonly known as a "Contessa" cocktail :)

  • @mashroom7706

    Cool video presentation, chill, casual vibes that I enjoy. However, do wish things were explained a tad - I had to google your ingredients constantly - to see if I own suitable variations/substitutes. Perhaps this is a video for people already bartenders, I can only assume it takes years to passively memorise all those names and attributes. That would also explain your decision to twist the classics without first explaining the classic.
    Great for the experienced, but kinda tough for a beginner. 8/10

    Hey, I don't know if many people come across this problem but, suppose you buy a new brand of whisky/gin/rum/triple sec/... But it's really bad! And I mean, you don't want to throw it away, obviously...
    Are there any good 'taste concealers' or things that would help?

  • @luisengbert3495
    @luisengbert3495 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Could you pls mention some vermouth brands and how they normally taste like? Like I was in a shop and looked for a sweet vermouth but there where only those standard Martini vermouths, like rosso, dry and blanc or so, how do i know if a vermouth is sweet? Like I was looking at Belsahar vermouth and every bottle mentions that it has a light sweet taste... WHat Vermouth do you use when you mention to use a sweet vermouth, do i have to taste very vermouth or is there a rule like rosso ist naturally more sweet than blanco and how does that go with dry vermouth? Hope my english makes sense
    Ps. Nice videos, maybe you can do a Video about this topic, like with Vermouth u recommend for sertain Cocktails like Lillet blanc is no rela vermouth but you use it anyway

    •  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm not him but also a bartender and I hope I can help you. Its not that complicated as it seems. Youre right with the point that red vermouth is normally always classified as sweet. So when theres a recipe with sweet vermouth, go red/rosso/rouge whatever you wanna call it.
      Now it gets a little bit tricky. You could say every dry vermouth is white, but not every white vermouth is dry. Theyre classified by their amount of sugar. "Extra dry" are vermouths with less than 30g of sugar per liter and at least 15%vol, dry vermouths have less than 50g sugar and at least 16%vol. The list goes on with "semidry" "mellow" and last but not least the already mentioned "sweet" vermouth with 130g or more sugar.
      To explain the taste is a little difficult. Its aromatized wine to put it simply. But every company uses different ingredients. You have to try and taste what works best for you.
      Martini, Belsazar, Cinzano, Noilly Prat and Yzaguirre are some brands you can try out. Belsazar and Martini are my personal favourites.
      And yeah as you said Lillet isnt a Vermouth but only for the reason that there are no woodworm herbs in it. Thats the only reason it isnt classified as vermouth. Other than that its still some pretty good aromatized wine like all other vermouths.

    • @luisengbert3495
      @luisengbert3495 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @ Ty for your answer. I purchased Belsazar Red some days ago and used it for the Negroni, where I had only Lillet as substitute before. Think it worked very well.
      Only Problem I have is that my local shops mostly only sell Martini and I was like: "thats not right" It should be costing much more, but when u mentioned it as one of your favourites I'll give it a shot. Only one shop here sells Belsazar and Martini. Seems like Vermouth fell out of favour in recend times, slowly crawling back.

    As versatile vermouth is in various cocktails, I rarely ever (read: never) order one from a bar let alone make them at home (RIP Manhattan/Negroni). Why? Because:
    1. Bars that hold vermouth...who knows how long they've been opened (if even refrigerated!!)! (vermouth is a WINE, not a hard spirit)
    2. I really don't want to make 30+ vermouth drinks at home in less than a fortnight :D
    Too bad from them :/

    • @theycallmejpj
      @theycallmejpj 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I've personally kept them sealed in a fridge and go a good 2-3 months without any noticeable change in flavour
      however, I have also read that by making batches of your favourite drinks when the vermouth is mixed with another spirit with a higher alcohol content will stay indefinitely as long as the ABV s over 20% when mixed.
      so in theory you could mix with gin/vodka/bourbon and have no problems

    • @eberbacher007
      @eberbacher007 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      just put them in the fridge, it will stay good for several months.
      Plus if you want to be super safe, you could get som 0,2l bottles and fill it up to the top.
      so then you would only use a part of it and not take out the whole bottle to make stuff, all the time.

    • @Cocktailnyymi
      @Cocktailnyymi 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's the thing; the moment you crack open the bottle, even in the fridge their flavor profile changes within weeks let alone months. Moreover, our retailers only sell those 1L vermouths (the bulkiest martini rosso/bianco/dry) so getting smaller bottles isn't really an option.
      Guess I have to look for those mini 5cl ones from abroad... :/

    • @eberbacher007
      @eberbacher007 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Cocktail Nyymi
      have you tried?
      sorry but 99% of people won´t taste the difference, between a bottle that has been in the fridge for 4 weeks and one that has been freshly opened.
      Plus as I said.
      Open a new bottle and instantly divide it into 5x0,2l bottles and fill them too the top.
      They are as good as 5 mini bottles

    • @Cocktailnyymi
      @Cocktailnyymi 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Guess I'll give it a go once I order some more liquor from Germany. I just won't bother buying Martini Rosso (1L); IMHO there are numerous better ones. If only I could get my hands on some Antica Formula...that's another story :)
      Thanks for the tip! I'll keep it in mind!
