    Thank you for this comprehensive account of the little legend that is the EvoGuide 50ED. I greatly admire your willingness to include other manufacturers' products alongside your own brand - competitors in some cases. This is excellent ambassadorship for the SkyWatcher brand.

    I used one as my main imaging scope with the field flatterner. First refractor I've owned. It's a little beast, I love it

    I've been using the Evoguide50 as a wide field imager with the dedicated Sky-watcher field flattener. True, there's no room for a filter. But I always place my Optolong L Extreme filter infront of the objective lens and it works fine. I attach an m42 adapter to the filter and it keeps the filter in line to prevent aborations.

    I enjoyed this. I have a SWED classic but purchased a 3D printed bracket for it as well as the latest Starizona flattener on SW AziGTE with the EQ software and Stellarmate. It’s a good portable set up. I find my SWED80 with its SW EQ5 to be a heavy set up to get in and out of the house.

    Nice presentation! I bought the 50ED a while back, and had a lot of troubles with it for using it as a guidescope. Now I am absolutely sick of my 8inch and I am thinking of buying one of those field flatners and using it for the first time.

    For the Design Team. …. Compression ring for the extender instead of the 3 screws…. Can u make a Handle that can also accommodate a Guide Cam for the 50 …. Please make a Aluminum Hard Case like the Other EVO scopes come in…. Please make a Backpack that can fit Evo5o and the Star Adventuer or Az Gti …

      Design Team … can we please have those Hexagonal Tube Clamps with the many holes in Sky Watcher Green …Not just for the 50 but all models. …. Sorry if off topic but we also need these tube cradles thingies in Sky Watcher Green for the Sky Max line ….Kevin what other options are there for mounting the Mak Cass

    Nice. Now make a new field flattener with 55mm back focus so i can use it with a DSLR, because the current one is only 17.5mm and is good only for a couple of dedicated astro cameras.

    I bought the first version of it, first thing I did, was to chuck finder style mounting bracket into bin and installed the vixen dovetail bar. Made my own version 2 -:))).

    Great video, bought 2 of these some time ago, and one of them has got some chips in the white paint, what paint can I use to touch up the white tube…? What shade of white is it….
    Keep up the good work….👍🏻

    Excellent presentation thanks! I've decided to use this little scope for astrophotography with my ZWO OSC camera and purchased the evoguide FF. You mentioned that you used the ZWO ASI294 to take the images.......but where did the uv/ir cut filter fit into the imaging train? Dd you use the m42 to 1.25 ring adapter to install the filter on the camera's m42 interface? (the one that comes with some ZWO cameras) Also I noticed that there are threads on the inside of the evoguide FF on the camera side.....They're not m42 or 1.25 inch. What size are those threads? Is it possible to use an adaptor to thread a filter into them?

    I have to ask I have this Guide Scope and Its like they didn't make the tube (extender) Long enough, I have to Pull out my Eyepieces and or Cameras to achieve focus. my other guide scope has an extender that you just move till you get OK focus, then use the helix to fine tune. What is the solution so I can put my Cameras in all the way and lock and still achieve focus? Does the flattener extend the tube to make this happen? Can I get the removable Extender Tube in a Longer format?

    Is there any chromatic aberration in the real world when using this scope with a color camera?

    How about mounting three of these babies side by side for SHO imaging? May try.

    • @SkyWatcherUSA

      Sure, you just need three cameras as well. It's only money.

    I absolutely cannot manage to get the extension tube removed (so that It can be replaced with the field flattener). I don't want to risk breaking the whole thing by applying too much pressure but Im wondering if there's something im doing wrong.

      I had the same problem. Simply apply sufficient force and it starts unwinding. The tube is very solid and does not become damaged.

      Had the same problem. It takes courage, hand strength and two tea-towels so as not to scratch the parts.

    What is the thin ring with 3 set-screws just behind the green helical focus ring (on the camera side)? There is a ring on the Objective Lens side of the focuser that has 1 set-screw to lock focus, but what’s the 3-screw ring on the opposite side of focuser?

    • @Astrofrank
      @Astrofrank 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Roughly the same lock for 1.25" accessories as on the 40 mm extension tube, perhaps for third-party field flatteners or longer adaptations.

    • @AntPDC
      @AntPDC ปีที่แล้ว

      That ring with the lone set-screw doesn't lock focus on mine. That's annoying because the helical focuser turns very easily.

  • @jonkjon

    Could someone tell me what the clearance is from the bottom of the front dew shield to the base of the dovetail?

    • @Astrofrank
      @Astrofrank 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Something between 42 and 43 mm from the (slightly larger) green ring to the bottom of the dovetail.

    Is this new Evoguide now labeled as 50DX on the side of the OTA or is it still 50ED, this question because I just bought a new Evoguide and on the OTA it still says 50ED but it came with all the extras as the 50DX has, and it came in a simple carton box, no special box as you mentioned ?

    • @SkyWatcherUSA
      @SkyWatcherUSA  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The OTA still says Evoguide 50ED. It's the accessories that make it a DX.
