There's something inherently amusing yet fascinating about one person playing as two people. I used to do that a lot- often up to four people. This has pushed me towards backing it, so thanks to you and Marty.
I'm new to this channel, but I do have to ask, why is it so similar to rahdo? Playing first person with an imaginary friend, making decisions on the fly, errors on klingon channel...
Imaginary??? I’ll pretend Marty didn’t hear that, but as for the other points there are many similarities yes - I love Rahdo’s videos and the first person style always gave me the best idea of games, main differences would probably be I try to play all the way through the games when I can, I edit the videos, and I as a person am quite different which leads to the narration being quite different too hopefully :) I think all playthroughs are making decisions on the fly though, like you would if you were playing. As for the subtitles it’s a brilliant idea Rahdo came up with when TH-cam disabled annotations and I, along with a some other channels I think, asked him if it was okay to use the idea. Hopefully it’ll become the error checking standard!
Hi Tom, I hate to say this, but I disliked the video. But I will not blindly hate, but give you my reasons: 1. I dislike the cuts. E.g. when you make an error two minutes into the video, imho just do a full retake ( = new start), rather than cutting your own words out. It looks unprofessional and has a hasty feel to it. Also from my personal experience it makes most viewers uncomfortable and reminds them of self-proclaimed influencers (like the modern age YT kids with make-up tutorials etc.). You are better than them and you know it. 2. Stick by your own style. I think I remember a time where you did not use two simulated players for a playthrough and also especially did not use the Klingon-channel for rules goofs. To me, this looks like the most blatant rahdo copy/ripoff I honestly have ever seen and I have to know if you asked him before using that? I mean, he can't be happy about it, can he? So please either use another subtitles channel or get back to your old style from the beginning (imho). 3. "Draft phase" in the game/you saying "you draft a card": This is mainly a problem of the game and nothing you should be overly concerned about, but it grinds my gears a bit so I unfortunately have to address this one as well. What you are doing in this game is card selection, not drafting. Modern "Drafting" is a term on it's own now and means choosing one card out of several cards in a hidden hand, then giving the rest away in turn order, receiving the hand from your neighbor, etc. Like it has been done in 7 Wonders, Among the Stars, Blood Rage, Greed and the likes. This game here is not drafting. It's card selection, e.g. like in Nations, Through the Ages, 7 Wonders: Duel etc. Some of these are coined Drafting on BGG as well, which is wrong. BGG is a bit lax with their definitions lately, but all major reviewers agree with me afaik, so please take it into consideration. Just because the designers made a mistake and called the phase "draft phase", you don't have to call it drafting as well. Say "you choose a card" or "you select a card" instead of "you draft a card", because there is no drafting in this game (as I can see from the start of the video). I would be very happy about this point, because we all know that language is fluid, constantly evolving. And after we developed our own technical terms in boardgaming, imho we should also stick to them and not water them down. Sorry if all of this sounds a little harsh, but atm it's late in the night over here and the video gave me quite a bitter taste in my mouth, so I felt I had to address it. Overall please don't take this comment too seriously or negative. I enjoy your content and hope to do so in the future as well. I just want your content to be the best that it can be and I simply have a feeling it does not have the same quality level than in the beginning. Help me out.
Hi! That's a lot to address :) 1) The cuts are almost always to remove silence while I'm thinking about what I'm doing. Since the videos tend to be full playthroughs, the gaps can be enormous towards the end so I get rid of them. I don't think the ones around 2:00 were cutting out me saying things though. 2) Using the Klingon channel is completely taken from Rahdo! :) It was a great solution to TH-cam removing annotations, I'd asked him before I ever used them and he was completely happy with it. I know JonGetsGames uses them too at least, it would be nice to have a convention amongst us that we all do it. As for the 2 players, it wasn't there at the very start of the channel, no. I was limited by how much I could fit in the frame using my phone and I went for smaller games that I played solo for similar reasons. I believe the first 2 player video I did was Rococo: Jewelry Box, and it was the 10th playthrough I did so it's been this way from pretty early on! The solo playthroughs are still mixed in, it depends what the game offers and what I fancy filming really 3) I don't really mind about this, I used the term the game used for simplicity. It's not card drafting in the sense we're used to it, but then in Among The Stars Revival the 2 player version is "drafting" the cards from a display, and in dice drafting games we're picking them from an open display but it's still called "drafting", so maybe the definition is already on the move. I'm not too fussed about it myself though, I like calling a single die a dice :) Anyway, I hope the videos aren't of a lower quality, there's more time and effort put into them than ever, and as far as I know I've made no major changes to it since the beginning. I'd like them if I was watching, anyway :P (if I wasn't in them, that's the major downside for me)
2. Okay, really glad to hear that you asked him. Truly good to know. Maybe something to add into your shownotes for future videos, so that no new concerns will arise? Dunno.
slickerdrips 3. Okay, thanks for your opinion on this matter. I get what you are saying. It just rubbed me the wrong way yesterday, idk. Glad you are putting so much effort into the vids and thanks for the reply.

Thanks for reviewing this .... thinking of backing it now
!! Keep making great videos!!
This similar to Oh my goods!? This looks interesting and oh my goods has my interest too.
I can see that, in the way the cards chain off each other - it definitely feels very different to play though
backed. thank you.
Holy crap this is complicated.

Hi! That's a lot to address :)

slickerdrips 1:26 was a very bad cut where you cut out your own words 100%. Imho due to a mistake, or am I wrong?
2. Okay, really glad to hear that you asked him. Truly good to know. Maybe something to add into your shownotes for future videos, so that no new concerns will arise? Dunno.

You're probably right - it does happen :) I only looked after 2 mins though
