Athletes have egos so, yes, you have to take what they say "with a pinch of salt", but, Fred is on the inside, it's his sport, and as an elite athlete he has credibility. So, one can question the legitimacy of Fred's comments and whether or not he should have said something controversial, but, Fred is not dumb or unreasonable, he knows his sport.
He makes a lot of valid points. Even if he makes some excuses for his own performances. A lot of prodigies don’t pan out and sprinters don’t have many options post track.
