Love these videos. The omission of the X may be due to the constraint of it having to be Black. Iirc I heard the terror painting was done with a black ballpoint pen. In terms of the common vs land value discussion, rarity is just part of the equation. Basic Lands are playable in every format I know of and one usually needs around a quarter of the deck in basics. Alpha basics have a high show off value, even in standard /type 2. Most of the alpha commons are not strong enough for competitive decks and likely not tournament legal in most formats, which means their demand is almost exclusively from collectors. At least that's my theory.
Due to the M:TG 30th, I have just completed a trip from Florida to Michigan and back for a funeral and snagged up my collection of cards and was delighted to find an Alpha swamp. 30 years of cardboard dreams and my swamp put the collecting bug in me to full gear. Sweet episode, ty
the nicest way to store these beautiful artworks is in binders. Especially like you do by giving a card 2 pages. its so eye appealing and in my opinion better than single storages in slabs in a vault or box. It stays alive,thank you!

Always love to see these top-tier collection videos. Something about those Alpha cards that hit differently. I've been slow and steady, picking up an Alpha common or uncommon or two every week. Last was a pretty clean copy of Simulacrum.

Love these videos with the commons! My favorite is probably Pestilence here, I thought I had many (got four) until I saw your collection, lol. Regarding Terror, the original art is actually rotated 90 deg counterclockwise, but by some error it ended up wrongly in the card. So you should definitely try to rotate the card to the left, gives kind of even more terror-like feel... And lastly, Weakness was removed as it negatively features a physically impaired person.
If I were a braver (and wealthier) man, I'd definitely go for a global set of Dark Ritual. There are soooo many prints of it. I could just go for the OG Sandra Everingham art version. 🤔 *adds it to the ever growing list of global sets*

So, I know you don't care as much about generating content and likes and subscribes, etc., but it really makes my days. Don't you think basic land, the most playable 10 cards in *every* format, would be worth more than some nigh useless in most formats commons?
Hey Mike, Love the video as always. I’ll echo Cody and Jonte in the comments. I think playability has a decent impact on the land prices. Not everyone will use a fear, but an alpha swamp feels like a welcome addition to any deck that plays black. In any format.

Awwww That kitty is adorable! I'd say #2 but he has too much sealed inventory, not your style, so #4 is really the only accurate option. However none of them, aside from 6 appear to be in any kind of bunker. Tough call.
I had a playset of Dark rituals that I picked up back in 2015 for £80, they were in played condition, but not damaged. Sold them in 2019 for 550 euro as I had an epic credit card bill to pay off. I miss them and one of the sets of cards I really wish I had kept

About 15-20 years ago I was in a card shop and seeing a ton of ABU commons for a couple bucks each, and thinking "Nah, no one cares about commons! It'd be neat to have but that's just silly!" SIGH the perils of foolish youth! I have a lot of very vivid and distinct memories of looking at cards from Revised and the horsemen - being on the playground in grade school, in my aunts car, in my friends basement, arguing about whether there's an until end of turn after frozen specter and firebreathing :D. The nostalgia factor on this cardboard is so high. I love these videos of just sorting through your cards, their massive vibes. Do you have anything collected from the horsemen block? I vaguely remember you commenting on it but can't recall if you have any. And probably silly question - I notice you use full size, not perfect fit sleeves on your cards in the binder, doesn't that make sliding them in and out a little tricky? Or are your binder pockets slightly larger to accommodate?
It’s probably still silly now 😅 I have a handful of the staples/iconic cards from the early expansion sets, but nothing like my alpha position. My Titan shield sleeves fit very well in all my binders, and most of my cards are in those. Some are still in the regular penny sleeves, and those don’t fit as well, as you may have noticed in the video.
Ratz, Zombies, Terror , unholy Strength , That Binder is full of Black Magic. I like it XD , I like option 1, and 2. But I'm all out of plastic Bagz .. PPPLLllFfftt!! 😋
As a new collector, I'm more drawn to old school cards than new school. Sure the new school cards have much higher quality artwork but I find the old school art far more charming.

How do I know the value of nm alpha commons? Most alpha commons on cardmarket starts at around 20-40euro and if I want nm 8-8,5 it costs around 100-150euro, is that reasonable?
I don’t know so much about European market, except that whenever I look, rares are priced higher than I’d expect. That said, those numbers seem consistent with what I see cards move for over here. NM is often double or sometimes triple to MP.
I think the lands are underpriced, personally. I understand that the print run is higher on them then the other commons, but an important factor I believe you are missing is the demand. When collecting old magic cards, people usually want 1-4 copies of each card. However, with the lands, people usually want 20 at a time, for desks. These lands seem to sell better in bundles. I believe the demand for the lands are far higher than a typical common

Circling back - I think some of the cards they add to the banned list for modern sensibilities reasoning is hit or miss. Earthbind and Weakness are a bit odd to remove. Weakness I can mildly understand as maybe being ableist and poking fun of the disabled? But some of the other cards makes sense - Invoke Prejudice and it's art and the artist... yeah, probably worth the removal. But like, recently I had to search around a bit to find a revised Crusade. That felt a little silly. Rudy made a solid point after he tantrumed about their removal, that yeah the prices spike, but don't be an idiot and play the market around picking up edgy banned cards.
Yeah, the bans are strange, and don’t really change the collectibility… but they do impact the liquidity, which causes the prices to rise anyway. I wonder if TCG player will allow the sales again now that ebay is running the show 🤔

Every black deck in Alpha40 runs Swamp Version 1 or 2. Very few Alpha40 decks run Fear or Howl From Beyond :)

Black is my favorite by far, black has the best art out of all the colors IMO, especially in the vintage sets

I’ve had luck with Vault-X, Card Guardian, and Wintra. Very hard to find a good binder… but these usable, at least.
