Yes, and some of them they can activate in both directions, depending on who enters the escalator first. But I think you see this in other countries as well. I have also seen escalators that slow down if there is no traffic, but I don't remember which city or country it was...

@@MetroCheck There are such escalators in newer stations in Athens (such as Nikaia, Korydallos, etc.)
