  • If you're looking for me you know where I'll be.
I'm sorry about the audio in the one. I know it's bad. Am still figuring out my setup. But I know why it's like this. So it wont happen again. I knew I should have re-recorded but I wanted to keep a scheduled. Just... just don't think they're all gonna be like that. Okay?

Sealab was my favorite AS show besides like, Venture Bros. I cant really articulate why that is, but it is. There's something about its absolute insanity, its self aware insecurity, and the fact that it's not a parody of a beloved H-B action cartoon but a short lived edutainment one that sticks out to me. Like you can watch Space Ghost Coast to Coast or the Brak Show or Harvey Birdman and still see the original material in there and how it relates to the parody - Sealab is just, total off the wall, doing its own thing, not even knowing what that thing is. I love it lol.

Man, I loved this era of AS as a kid, remember staying up real late on summers and watching ATHF, Sealab, Harvey Birdman, and so many other great shows.

This was great! Couple of fun facts...Marco was voiced by Erik Estrada. He was on CHiPs back in the day. MOLTAR loved to watch CHiPs in some of his SGCTC/Cartoon Planet scenes. I used to love watching CHiPs, too. ... Radio Free Sealab is a tandem tribute to Howard Stern and Wolfman Jack. .... And somehow Waking Quinn is a parody/tribute to the film Waking Life. That's some high level stuff right there. Speaking of high...

Sealab 2021 was one of the first AS shows I really had hard formative memories of, like most of us, I started watching AS very young and while I remember Brak, Space Ghost, and Harvey Birdman ; Sealab stuck firm in my memory. I remembered concepts and characters of the other shows, but whole episodes of Sealab still felt fresh in my mind. I can rewatch it over a decade later and still laugh the way I did when I was eight - even if I didn’t fully understand all the jokes at thae time. Sealab’s in my top 10, maybe even top 5 all time favorite AS shows.

Fabulous. From the title song to the end-credit anagrams, in its way it was effortless, nigh on perfect. Feast of Alvis a particular favourite.

Man i was watching Sealab and i couldnt put my finger on why it seemed so familiar. Turns out cause of the similarities with Archer and looking back i can definitely see some of the personality that was put into both shows. Love Archer a ton

First of your vids I've seen. Really good breakdown of how Sealab really is different and how easy it is to miss that because of the Hanna-Barbera aesthetic. Lots of great research too.
But please know that your channel will live and die for me based on its evaluation of 12 oz Mouse.

I really like Sealab for its inconsistency. You turned it on and you do not know what you're going to get. But it is almost always good.
It is like listening to an early Jethro Tull or Taj Mahal album. Yes, Ian Anderson gets technically better. But does it make for a superior experience? Maybe not.

Sealab 2021 It's one of my favorite shows...in my country dubbing...they got some of the best (and funniest) voice actors and they were in the cartoon at the time and from the interviews, they never really managed to explain what the hell they wanted For the dubbing team, and they kind of had carte blanche, it was the "Ghost Story" dub situation, it got gloriously out of control, every single Adultswim at It was extremely funny, to this day I laugh when I see the dubbing version... not so much the original

While I did have some fun watching this show three years back, there is one thing that kind of holds it back for me a bit. Someone once described the show as the original Sealab 2020 if everyone got cabin fever and went crazy from being stuck in the station, and I can't help but feel like maybe the show SHOULDN'T have had its characters leave the underwater environment. In the same way having a whole set of rules caused the Wile E. Coyote cartoons to really think outside the box for their installments, maybe that restriction is something that could have made Sealab 2021 stand out more or be better fondly remembered. But that's just my take on it, I'm curious to hear what others think about it.

I quoted Captain Murphy to my ghetto friend..."snitchin is bitchin"
Sometimes I even quote myself..."Don't hate the game...hate the playa"

Bro hit me with that Bizzarro! and I choked on my coffee. Should have seen it coming. I still contend that when Harry Goz (Cpt. Murphy) died, he took Adult Swim with him. It seems like overnight the programming that I loved was replaced with a steady stream of completely irreverent, borderline unfollowable programs more and more favoring 60-90 second vignettes as opposed to overarching stories or something just knocking at the door of "too silly". Like I get that you think your demographic is males 14-24 who are completely stoned out of their skulls but give us a little bit of credit.

Ah yes, Perfect Hair Forever. The best thing about that show was the tiny, rarely seen promotional clip they slipped between broadcasts well before the first episode aired. The actual writing was all the evidence I needed that the peak of Adult Swim was season 7 of SGC2C, where the rambunctious randomness came in equal measure with writing acumen, and after that, either those writers left, or the whole staff grew the incorrect notion that being random is what made a show funny/entertaining. Perfect Hair Forever served as the final form of this train of thought, with the ratio of writing competence-to-randomness finally at zero.
