Just to clarify at 1:52, I mispoke while talking. But the pictures and text on screen are CORRECT. If a right handed player has their palm facing their body, the ball will kick to your backhand. If their palm is facing towards the court, that will go to your forehand. You can flip that if they are a lefty.
You two do an excellent job of explaining what most advanced players do intuitively, but have difficulty explaining to someone else. High five on so many levels, clarity, insight, practical, engaging to watch, fun. I will be recommending others to your thoughtfully done educational video.
Best video on reading this spin serve! I see it from very few players (like 1) in our drill and rec groups so don’t get to practice against it. Then in our local RR, we were undefeated till our final game against the other undefeated team…and one of the players had a good kick spin. A game to 11 by 1 is NOT enough time to learn to read it!!! Lol! So will try and really focus on what you said here. Thanks again!
Nice of Porter to pull back the curtain to show how he gets all that kick. Great video and certainly needed, no one wants to look like a chump falling down on a serve return!
This video really helped playing against you Friday! Returning the spin serves was easier than I thought it would be... Unless you serve into the fence 😏 lol
is he serving these flat? or does the side spin add to the top spin vector. And does his serve work with a gritty paddle or does that cancel out the spin too much
What I found interesting is that Porter uses a Selkirk paddle that is not known for its spin (a few big spin server pro too). I have not yet seen videos with the spinner paddles such as crbn. Any particular reasons?
Part of the reason is certain variations of the serve are easier to do with paddles that don’t grab the ball as much because it doesn’t take away the spin from your hand toss. Paddles with a lot of grit grab the ball and take away a bit of the hand toss spin.
@@ChrisOlson2 Oh, is he using both his middle and index fingers on one end versus just the index and middle? I've watched that video and have been practicing the toss around my house for awhile now haha. You werent kidding when you said you'd end up scraping up your finger :D - I can attest.
@@PickleballStudio I may be a little late to this, but the current rules state no manipulation with the hand before serving. Did I miss something? Thank you.

Time to update video with legal serves and change read with regard to the paddle swing.
Great videos btw.
Some wicked spin serves bro. No one does it better than Porter, that’s unreal.

Great video! I love how well you explain this. It's super duper easy once you know what you're doing! 😁👍
Really appreciate your willingness to share this. You're a really generous dude.
6- 2023 is this serve legal ? producing spin by snapping fingers before contact ? just curious, I didn't think is was allowed. Thanks
no not legal anymore
When this was filmed, it was a legal serve. The rules have changed and it is not legal anymore.

Of course! My goal is to be as open about my secrets as possible 😂
Great stuff as always! Much needed for the community
Appreciate the support Will! :)
@@PickleballStudio yes man thank you for making people play better 😂

Now, I might be able to get a few points off Porter finally!!! Thank you!
I'll just lob you 😂😂😂
Can you do a video on your backhand spin mentioned elsewhere?
2023 rules state that no spinning from hand release.
Dang! I have a lot to learn!
What kind of shoes is the guy in the black shirt wearing?
What about reading a drop serve with the side spin?
good thing these are illegal now!
Another nuance of the game removed!
@syntax2679 no it was a nuisance to remove

fortunately, im at such a low level, i don't think ive ever experienced this serve during normal play

Where is this place?
How do you like the 002?!
this is a great video
So glad this isn't legal anymore!
Same. Hack serve. Learn spin with the raquet lol
The tennis serve is a crucial shot that can greatly impact your performance on the court. Learn it
More on the toss, it's different than the Morgan Evans toss?
It actually is the same Morgan Evans toss. I have another video on my channel that explains how to do the serve as well.

@@tengYT haha oh yeah! It'll get your fingers real beat up 😂
Porter only uses his middle finger and thumb for his tosses.
What paddle does he have?
I believe it was the Selkirk Amped Epic
Definitely an Epic. I know that for sure.
@@PickleballStudio I froze the frame and looked again. It's AMPED epic, my bad.
Thought spin serves are banned from play?
Only from pro play in the PPA. Every other tournament it’s legal.
@@PickleballStudio Ah, thanks for clearing this up! Thanks

Hey what shoes is Porter Wearing? Thanks
I believe it’s the Babolat Jet Mach 3
Looks like he is spinning the ball when throwing it up in the air. Isn't this illegal in 2023?
Sure. Of course. Now you tell everyone how to return it right before I partner up with him for a tournament 🤦🏻♂️😂😉
My bad lol
This is a great tutorial, but your camera placement violates the "180-degree rule" making it disorienting. Nonetheless, the info if terrific. Thanks.
It is hard 😳🫣
Looks illegal, paddle is not making an upward motion but slicing down and across! Its like golf you hit down on the ball to make it go up!
The serve is not legal.
Illegal serve. Adding spin to ball when he tosses ball. Probably made video before rule change on serving.
NO MORE SPINS FOR 2023
This serve is no longer legal
