    Disagree on the "Nosedive" episode, it really is the other way around.
    She starts off quite pathetic, not to other people in her world, but to us watchers. She only sees her worth in terms of popularity and her whole life is a mascarade that makes you wince several times.
    It's in the end that she progressively becomes brilliant, because she's so determined, and she ends up actually freeing herself from the farce her world is. That's when she becomes a character you love and can relate to.
    Apart from that, I completely agree, and it's a great video.

    • @sunkissedking
      @sunkissedking 7 ปีที่แล้ว +22

      He didn't explain "Nosedive" from the perspective of viewers; he explained it from the perspective of Lacie. She strives to have what any other person wants--happiness and stability--but she believes that she can only attain those things through popularity. From her perspective, in her society, popularity affords every luxury she desires. Of course we see the dramatic irony, but she doesn't see the irony in something so blatant like how her brother, who isn't all that popular, can be content in his existence without pandering to strangers and she can't.
      On relating to Lacie, I would probably argue that viewers can relate to her on every level. Some think that popularity can compensate for the many grievances they feel, but don't understand how vapid that pursuit can be when popular people are still people and those "grievances" aren't rooted in likability, but in humanity. As long as people are people, they will experience the undesirable consequences of existing, so the best anyone can do is to take it for what it is and learn to live with it--it isn't the "end all." The trucker woman is a great example because her world was her husband. Even when the most drastic event that could've happened to her occurred, she figured out how to live after. It's all, ultimately, just a matter of perspective for the characters, and Lacie sees that in the end as she shouts at another of society's forgotten in the super-chic jail cell.
      Viewers understand how pathetic Lacie's pursuit is before she does because we live in a world where popularity has no dire stakes; we don't have to focus on it in the same way.

  • @Atlas65
    @Atlas65 7 ปีที่แล้ว +51

    With all due respect you need to watch White Christmas again, because apparently you didn´t really get it. It is false that the guy wasn´t real. He was real, he wanted to have a relationship with his daughter. However the copy of him (his conciousness) wasn´t real, and they god the confession out from the copy of him, while he was locked up in his prison cell.

    • @misteramazing
      @misteramazing  7 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      Stefán Atli Jakobsson yea, I got it. But I wasn't going to explain all that though. It would've ruined the cadence of my speech. The consciousness of the man that was telling our story was an artificial copy of real consciousness. Thus, it was not real consciousness and the man was not real.

  • @UpcoRaul
    @UpcoRaul 7 ปีที่แล้ว +140

    I like the video but I think you could've pointed out the fact that it's called Black Mirror because every episode deals with technology. Our TV's screen is a black mirror, so are our computers, smartphones, etc.

    • @nimblebimble
      @nimblebimble 7 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      That"s a great interpretation, but maybe it isn't one the creator of this video shares or has thought of. Though there are myriad readings and interpretations of art, all of which are equally worthwhile, the explicitly intended meaning of the title Black Mirror is that the show serves as a dark reflection of our society

    • @wwerdo4
      @wwerdo4 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Yeah, I took it as the way C M H says. I view the show as a dark reflection on what are society is like, or on the verge of becoming like.
      While the black screen interpretation completely makes sense, I don't think it was so much the intended meaning of the title, so much as a consequence of what it's trying to reflect.
      We are a society that is more and more driven by technology as the years go on, and this show is, again, a rather dark reflection on what that could be like for us in the future.
      Nosedive was the first one I watched, and really hit the nail on the head of that interpretation for me. And playtest was a mindfuck that really drove it home! haha

    • @AG-gr4yx
      @AG-gr4yx 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      C.M. H. The title does refer to the screens of phones etc. and how we are left looking at ourselves once the technology has switched off.

      "Black Mirror"... Now that I think about it wasn't that a description for the telescreens in 1984?

  • @flutterface
    @flutterface 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    What I love about Black Mirror is every episode feels like a slightly different outcome of the technological progression of today. Some aren't even in the future, but all those that are feel pretty real. Each one focuses on a different aspect that could be nightmarish if taken to the extreme and Black Mirror manages to take it to the extreme and still keep itself grounded. It's genius.

    Oh shit how have I just discovered this channel, instant subscribe! Also Black Mirror is one of my all time favourite shows, watched it since it first aired in the UK, I'm glad so many people are finally starting to discover it.

    I can only watch one episode usually per day or so, and that’s why I love it. My brain is fried and I just need a sec to think about what I just watched. Great show

    Great vid, dude, good points about the show. There were some moments, namely the Walk Like an Egyptian where I had trouble hearing you. Hoping to help improvement.

    15 Million Merits will always be the best Black Mirror episode. It's hard to top but also I've seen the quality drop from the first 2 seasons.

    I've seen all of Black Mirror, its fantastic, but holy shit man. You are spoiling so much in this video. So many scenes you decided to show here are CRUCIAL to the stories in some episodes.
