- Super Bowl 59 is scheduled to take place in New Orleans on Sunday afternoon, but the major topic of conversation during Super Bowl week has been the offseason destinations of two of the NFL's biggest stars. On Monday, former NFL Defensive Player of the Year Myles Garrett informed the Cleveland Browns of his desire to be traded in his pursuit of a Super Bowl victory. Later that week, the Los Angeles Rams notified former NFL Offensive Player of the Year Cooper Kupp that they would be looking to trade him away from LA this offseason.
The Carolina Panthers find themselves in desperate need of a dynamic edge rusher, while also looking to enhance their receiving corps. Will the Panthers make a move for either Garrett or Kupp this offseason?
Julian Council examines the challenges and advantages the Panthers would face in trading for Garrett, as well as his thoughts on whether Kupp would be the ideal receiver fit for Bryce Young and the offense in 2025.
Additionally, Luke Kuechly and Steve Smith Sr. were not named to the 2025 Pro Football Hall of Fame Class. Julian shares his thoughts on the omission of these former Panthers greats from Canton.

The thing about Luke, that is disappointing, is the fact that he was going to get first ballot. Also, the fact that they only inducted 4 players. Being first ballot is supposed to be a special thing. I feel like it means nothing now. lol
No on either one. Granted with a few upcoming releases and restructuring freeing up around another 45M in cap space, Dan is looking to upgrade a defense to go along with an offense that averaged almost 25 points per game after the bye with a 2nd year QB and 2 of the top 3 receivers and top tight end being rookies. A big push on the offensive side will be to resign Christiansen who can play all 5 offensive line spots and upgrading the backup tackle position.
On defense with Brown returning along with Robinson gives a good starting group of defensive ends. Expect Tuttle to be in a different uniform in 2025. Our top 3 corners of Horn, Mike Jackson (who needs to be resigned) and Smith-Wade at nickel is solid so looking for depth. All 4 linebacker spots need to be examined. Acknowledging the fact that there is some talent on the roster do not be surprised by some turnover. The 2 safety positions are also an area of concern.
On special teams JJ and Johnny should return but there could be a new kicker living in the 704 area code. Returners have shown some promise but upgrades could be possible.
Regarding the 2 trades mentioned. What draft capital are you willing to give up for 2 aging players. One a receiver who would have a difficult time seeing the field given our current group and the other plays defensive end in a totally different defense 4-3 vs 3-4 and averages 2.4 tackles and 0.8 sacks a game. There were 7 games where he didn’t register a sack at all. His projected cap hit for 2025 is expected to be $19,722,120. While he is a talented player, the numbers on the potential return vs the investment of cap space and the draft capital that it would take to acquire him just don’t add up. It’s ok however Panther fans. The tide is changing in our favor. Just stay the course and Keep Pounding.

Cooper Kupp is older and declining and we already have an older, white, a lot receiver who has worked out, just fine. Don’t see why we’d trade for Kupp unless we can get him for the price of a wooden nickel.

Kupp would be a nice bridge option and potentially affords us the chance to be aggressive on defense with free agency and the draft.

Nope we shouldn’t go with either we should get guys that are either free agents or in the draft sorry. I just feel that’s better route. Specially for the panthers we need to get younger on defense.
