@@TonyMaples what's crazy, i spent most of today trying to program a new keyfob with no luck. Then your video popped up on my phone like Moses parting the seas! I said, this is a sign and began, paused, restarted, etc etc. Took nearly 3 hours, but wasn't so bad. My foam i was careful with not to rip. I got my carbon top a few weeks back from Greg you mention. Sent him a picture. Mine is storm titanium turbo elise 2005 that was featured in auto week. Still waiting on my v3 tail lights...I told my wife, "then I'll be done". She glared and called me a liar. She knows me far too well. :-D Your Elise videos are awesome. Keep them coming!!!
😂 That's such an awesome chain of events lol. When I posted some stories on IG last week, I had so many DMs about getting the video done, so I tried to streamline it and get it knocked out as quick as possible. I also have a good video of the V3 lights install, they really transform the back of the car!
Dude, thank you so much for this video! At first I thought my fuel pump was broken, but apparently it was actually the immobilizer and I wanted to get rid of it anyway. So I just followed your steps this past weekend and successfully revived my car with it! Super easy to follow and everything was exactly as described (just flipped for the alarm since mine is RHD). You saved me so much time and money with this. What a relief to no longer have that stupid thing wake me up in the middle of the night for absolutely no reason. Thanks again!
Awesome, glad to hear you got some use out of the video! It brings me peace of mind daily knowing that the car is going to start every time, I'm not going to get random alarms from the finicky system, etc. I'm still using the key manually to lock and unlock the car, but it would be incredibly simple to install an aftermarket key fob to the power locks if I change my mind one day. Thanks for watching 🤙🏼
I'll have an update video on the custom double din in the next few weeks! The glovebox is very nice, has USB power and is suede wrapped. I'll post some pics on my IG when that one is finished up, and I'll show it off in a later video 👌🏼
Thanks Tony! I finally got around to doing this to get my car running again after a kill switch finally reset the immobilizer and I needed the code and horrible process to get it working again
It adds so much peace of mind, I most recently added a 200 amp breaker in the boot so that when the car is sitting for a longer period of time I can easily just kill battery power. I need to get down to your neck of the woods sometime soon and get some photos of your car!
Rather than cutting the harness behind the female plug and joining the cut wires, can you get a replacement male plug and wire 1 to 6 and 5 to 12 on the new replacement male plug? Any idea what that male plug type is?
Folks, I want to add one thing. When you go to remove the harness from the factory alarm, you will reach into the access panel on the passenger side. You will be working blind in the small area. The harness is removed by pulling UP. Just a little bit of info that might make your job easier. Hope it helps!
I like that gated shifter that you have. Was that from GRP? My question is this: after having the car sitting in the garage for a couple of months I switched the battery on (have a disconnect on it, has been there a long time) and the alarm is going of. Won't stop. Would this process that you did here in the video solve my problem? Thank you very much for making this video. The video quality is quite good, which we can appreciate from making videos on our channel:)
Thanks for that! To answer your questions: 1: Yes that is the GRP gated shifter, I work with Greg from time to time and can vouch for just about everything he makes! 2: Sounds like you're having a very common issue and one of the main reasons people remove the system. You should be able to remove the system even if the immobilizer is active. The immobilizer works by disabling the fuel pump and starter, and when you make the jumps on the wire harness you're completely bypassing that feature. With the immobilizer bypassed and the alarm modules removed, there are no units in the car to cause the alarm to go off or lock down as it's an independent system. Let me know if you have any other questions!
@@TonyMaples Perfect! This is great to know. Do you think the alarm will still sound? If so, you're video shows where it is so I think it was a simple unplugging to end that once I get access to it. (by the way this channel is my son's so don't worry, you are talking to the dad, there isn't a 14 year old running around in an Elise!)
So the alarm and the immobilizer are 2 different systems, so the alarm will most likely still sound with the immobilizer disabled. Both systems are more problematic than useful, and I suggest removing both. Any highly rated audio shop can install a new alarm system and keyfob should you want to have those - personally I've had significantly more peace of mine since I've removed mine, and using the physical key to lock/unlock adds to the charm of the Lotus in my opinion.
Could I do this AFTER the immobilizer has been activated? Bought my Elise used but I was not given a keyfob... and she is doing strange things lately including refusing to start.
Yes you should be able to do this with no problems, even if the car is locked down. The Immobilizer works by cutting power to the fuel pump and starter - this mod completely removes that system.
#1: One potential cause is the bypass was done incorrectly, and the Immobilizer unit detects an open circuit, solution would be to double check your bypass is connected correctly. #2: the alarm/immobilizer unit itself could be defective. #3: I also found that the alarm system can cause it to constantly blink if left enabled, so you could go ahead and bypass the alarm if you have not done so to try and fix the issue. If none of those work I'd be happy to look into for you some more!
Sure thing! The bypass will work on its own, but for me personally I don't need/want the fob or alarm system. Much more peace of mind knowing it will always start and the alarm will never randomly go off, had tons of issues with a previous Elise and so I elected to remove all of it
Oh just one more question! So the male and female parts of the harness do NOT need to be plugged together again after the jumps have been made to the female side? Thank you!
Hello Tony , does the disabling also works for an Elise my 2001 with the knobs integrated into the key itself ? I have no additionnal cobra alarm case, only the original key with the 2 knobs on it. Maybe mine is Meta ? Thank you for your reply ( I hope so) 🤞
So I can't be totally certain on anything other than the 2005+ Federal Elise, but I did search around on the forums for you and yes I believe you should have the Meta alarm. It looks like a similar removal process. Found a thread with a bit of useful info, and a simple diagram that may be a good starting point in your journey. www.midlandslotus.co.uk/forum/topic/67369-meta-alarm-system/ Thanks for watching, good luck!
@@TonyMaples thanks Tony ! If I only bypass the immobilizer which is located rear de drivers seat by connecting two times 2 wires, wil the alarm and the remote (un)locking and the red dash light still be functional as it should ? The link to the company which sells Lotus parts, they say the bypass is also suitable for Meta . Thanks for your reply again !❤️
@@bert8640 if the bypass module they sell is still suitable for your system, I assume that your alarm and dash light will remain functional. Again I can't say anything for sure aside from the Cobra alarm, but they seem to be extremely similar systems
@@TonyMaples thanks again Tony !👍 I do believe there are differences because the Meta system is integrated into the key with only one knob, so for a reset , the way to do that is different , the Cobra fob has two knobs .
It’s literally far to easy to bypass these security features, a friend told me the other day he hacked into a Porsche gt4 r/s through the can bus system via the tyre pressure sensor while he wasn’t even inside the car
That was the way I've done it for years yes. However you still do have the battery drain from the system, and you still must use the fob to disable the Immobilizer each time you start the car. If the system ever wears out, has a voltage spike, the key fob battery dies, etc, there is a chance to have some unnecessary problems. This definitely isn't the solution for everyone, but I have way more peace of mind with it removed!
Just finished! Watched this when you posted it and just now completed. YOU THE MAN! works like a charm. You're much appreciated.
That's awesome! Glad you got it done, it's a huge peace of mind having it out of the car!
