I have been a PDR tech now for 10 years. I went through the negatives and positives in learning this trade. I did a one week course and to be honest, it taught me the absolute basics of PDR and that's it. I went home and poked out some dents but it was not pretty. What Mike says on this podcast is the absolute truth. I have all his videos and sat for hours watching them and trying to get myself into the frame of mind that is needed to get the basics right. Listen to him carefully, it is not a cake walk..
I wish I heard this info 2 years ago when I started. What you are saying is 1000% the truth. I went to a so called MILL and had a instructor sit and watch TH-cam while I trained. I learned the basics but it was a big mistake time and money. Myke keep doing what your doing because your content is amazing! I hope to meet you and come train with you in the future. Great video! Your stuff is on a different level then all the other guys out there.
I did a 5 day pdr. Course here in the U.K. there were 3 other guys as well we spent 4 days on a bonnet, then on the fifth day did some work on a real car we did glue pulling on an real car to, he also thought it would be good to kick large dents in to the car and let us have a go at repairing them, as you can imagine it didn’t take long to start getting despondent. Also on the last day by 1.30pm the course was finished because the dent trainer had other guys turning up to find out about dent training, so the course was actually four and a half days not five days, before i left i was told to keep practicing and if i need more training just pay for more training. This was about three years ago now they have a company here in the U.K. and also in Australia you’ve probably met him once twice, anyway after a few weeks went by and trying to keep practicing with a full time job just wasn’t working and i didn’t have the money for more training, i now have a bit more time on my hands so I’m going to watch video after video try and teach my self and contact second hand car dealers and if this doesn’t work well i can look back and think at least i gave it a go. If only i new then what i know now. Thanks for a great podcast 🙂
EcogreenDetail thanks for sharing your story mate. It helps others understand that not all PDR Training is the same and learning the trade demands enough time and commitment upfront. Unfortunately 5 days isn’t enough. Good luck to you. 👊
Hey, I feel your pain. It took me 2 years to start getting it. Now I’m was 47 years old learning. I think young people can get it faster. But to get this, you need more then training, you need to team up with someone who is willing to help you until you get it. It is the hardest thing you’ll ever try, so you have to give it 200%!!! Once you get it, the pay off is sooo worth it. Keep trying
Todd Roy well I’m 46 now and I’m going to give it another go it’s gone a be hard so now is the time, how are you doing with your dent repair. thanks for the message buddy 🙂
