Thank you so much, I'm a freshman in highschool right now and studying hard for my regents exam I am scared since earlier in the year I had struggled with algebra and decided not to study which was a horrible idea but this regent is my only hope and from now watching this video and your channels i have confidence on passing, I will update and tell if I passed!!! Wish me luck!!❤️

Thank you so much, I do homeschool so I always have to be reading the whole lesson, and sometimes I don't focus so I always rather watch a video and this helped so much

I thought you divide when it’s multiplication. You subtracted 3x?

    • @ms.smithsmathtutorials

Thank you for your question! So you are correct that when we want to undo multiplication we divide. The reason we are not dividing in that step is because my goal is not to separate the 3 and the x in the context of this problem. My goal is to get y alone. In order to get y alone I need to move 3x to the other side of the equal sign (away from the y). I want to move the whole term of 3x not just one part of it. Therefore, if I do the opposite of +3x (the positive is not shown, but an understood positive) and instead -3x so that it moves from one side to the other. I hope that this helps!
