First off the engine is a V6 and nobody who calls themselves a real supercar petrolhead cares for that kind of engines in supercars, not even in the Ford GT. Worst of all it is a turbocharged engine. Looking at depreciation heroes, I noticed that there are 2023 McLaren Arturas starting at £135k on Autotrader now. That includes 4 years remaining of the factory service and warranty plan. £100k off for a year old car!. Certainly worth Ant trying one of those.
The problem with the Mclaren is will the company be around in 3 years time considering how much money they lose per year. It is only that the arab owners have excess money thay keeps them going. if they decide to sell then I doubt anyone will by the company. Same question goes for Maserati.....
@JayEmm@Friends, I love Maserati’s and own the “final” GTS which I purchased new four years ago. The main reason for the brand’s infamous depreciation curve is their sales and after-sales experience. Like the NSX, they will sell you a £300k car but treat you no different than a customer who’s purchased a £30k car. The fact that Maserati’s are sold alongside Alfas in the same showroom says it all (Ferrari never made this mistake).

Good to know. It depends on the roads taken on those 4800 miles I guess. I know a few roads that it would struggle on. But I'd get the splitter and side skirts anyway 😁
I tried different sound solutions on mine: Novitec (turbo-back, Capristo and Custom. Ended up with Capristo GPF (deleted) emulator cat connected to factory cat and custom 3--->5 inch Megaphones to the tail pipe with an interesting result. No more turbo boost re-circulation sounds at full throttle (with the exception of a whisper at times) due to significantly less restriction by the GPF delete and megaphones causing the gas volume exchange rate in the engine to use up all the boosted air from the turbos and beg for more. No- tune water meth injection in this car also significantly helps it because of the high Turbo boost values and extra-capable combustion efficiency of the Twin spark/ twin chamber at high revs: a victory for improved volumetric engine efficiency (I estimate 645 HP and 550 ft lbs improvement which can be felt) But now the exhaust note is just louder and the whistles are gone (which I do not miss). With this set up, I best enjoy driving it in sport-automatic-medium suspension. Medium suspension because while the soft setting is better on undulations at low speed, going fast at this setting make it pogo, wallow and impart the sensation of bottoming out. At Medium, the jitteriness at slow speeds disappears at high speeds and becomes compliant while limiting travel. I am learning to keep the go pedal closer to the boost explosion threshold for more speed drama. Pedal to the metal through all shift points invokes more 'jail time' rapidity but if not followed through, it does produce a unique mechanical 'rev-hang whirr' that i hear very clearly now that the whooshes are gone and this sound is complex in character and quite exhilarating. I am also acquiring appreciation for the low to medium rpm diesel truck bass roar and perfectly commensurate high torque and instant lag-free shove at low speed throttle stabs. The wide twin double wishbone suspension regulated stance really establishes a high speed turn confidence which does not bore because Dallara also engineered a High lateral G shove sensation for the enthusiast's pleasure: something I cannot say for the soft spongy but better track performing Ferrari GTB (which I test drove-excellent car).
Clearly, the MCXtrema proves these engines can make 700+hp quite easily. The MC20 GT2 and MCXtrema get the larger Garrett turbos which are supposedly good for 800+hp, but I don't think anybody knows the limits of the stock internals yet.

Cars like these don't depreciate like this in Canada due to the rarity of these cars over here. Our climate doesn't make these cars a daily choice, or even a year-round weekend choice, like they can be in the UK. In one way that's kind of sad, but in another way, my C8 Corvette is holding is value better than any other place in North America.
I've always liked to keep things standard myself. Enjoying this series!! Will be interesting to see what Ant buys. Been looking at similar cars - 720s is amazingly appealing and outstanding in so many ways but a bargain because of the McLaren issues, MC20 is unfortunately ruined by the sound, 458 was let down by the steering and brakes, 488 seems sensible but haven't driven, Exige 410 was everything I want from a car but the ground clearance might bother me and then road cars that wouldn't work on track but have glorious engines: V12 vantage, F12 or R8 V10 plus from the 2016 era. A year ago went from a 991 GT3 to a 992 Turbo S as I had a baby on the way, launch control seduced me and I thought it would cover all bases. It has and on Cup2s actually destroyed many average driven 992 GT3s on track. But the sound or lack there of has left a big hole in my heart! 😪
James having a meltdown on Ant's preference of more front splitter for MC20 is just hilarious. Also, James' patent-pending three-point hillstart torture test is important, not just to assess car's ability to be controlled by the means of throttle, gearbox, clutch, brakes and visibility, but also the driver's capability of controlling said cars. Driving test should include that, I think. BTW about the NSX, there's this Thermal Orange Pearl NSX at AutoTrader listed for GBP250k. I think people started to realize just how good it is and how ahead of its time the NSX is. And maybe because we know there will be nothing else like it from Honda in the future. Also that Thermal Orange Pearl looks stunning.
Yeah, although in the case of many modern cars, like this, you've got no manual handbrake and, no clutch pedal, so you're entirely reliant on the hillstart assist software to electronically manage both on a hillstart. You've just got to solve the problem with more throttle.
Probably one of the best descriptions I’ve seen on this car. I like the design, but the nsx has the edge for long term value. I believe the nsx will begin appreciating eventually. Maseratis typically drop like a rock after a decade passes. Nice design nonetheless.
I’ve always seen this car as the BMW i8 gen 2 in terms of depreciation, and what you get. I have no doubt this will get below 100k in a couple years, no doubt.
That mazza is drop dead gorgeous. Real proper head turner. The inside you can tweak and change to your likes if you have 5-10 k spare. Just customise it with an OEM feel. Can change the exhaust as well for 5grand.
How is the suspension super stiff? What???? My first impression was that it was softer then my tesla model 3 perf, my BMW x4m comp, seemed similar to a z51 vette. What am I missing.
Part of the reason for glacial depreciation is that they’re massively overpriced to begin with. Sounds really poor due to V6 and petrol particulate filter. They’ll be available for £100K in not too long
It's certainly a very beautiful car, it's just a shame about the lack of engine noise and interior quality that doesn't quite meet expectations considering the price. I would certainly consider the 488 to be a safer purchase currently, with reference to depreciation, as MC20 will most likely continue to lose a higher % of value in comparison. I would also consider the 488 to be the better built car and have the superior engine, build quality and ownership experience.
Just an idea. Is it worth looking at something like a Lancia Delta or R5 turbo. I’ll admit they don’t do the same thing as the R8 but they drive well and are more practical, even if they’re a childish choice. A Clio V6 may be worth a look to.
I'd love one, having said that being a hardcore Italian car fan, this suffers from the "296" syndrome, where many are sitting unsold - because of the V6 engine. The problem isn't 6 cylinders i don't think, its our perception of something that is naturally aspirated & revs. Maybe it's my perception that needs to change?
No, I really think its about the 90 degree V-six. A long time ago I read an article that explained through math and physics that a 90 degree six is inherently unbalanced, as opposed to an 8 or 90 degree V2, like a Ducati engine. This Maser's engine sound might be all you are going to get. Kind of a shame, sound is so important to the experience.
sounds too artificial or synthetic even if it is natural exhaust noise. Zonda R, Ferrari Enzo or the Carrera GT have a more natural sound. The LFA has become to mystified lately due to their romanticized flop to success story. Yamaha always cleans up too much their noises, making them sound too much like modern musical instruments.
Jay in full flow on "man maths" as to why buying one is a good idea financially. To me it looks like a gamble with a high ante and the odds massively against you. But the car is lovely and just driving it will cheer you up about the hundred grand plus that evaporated overnight. Cheers
This car will bounce back because of very few simple but important reasons: it's incredibly gorgeous but it came out at the wrong moment and very few noticed. It's a simple car still (no electric motors, not much electronics, not huge engine, no all wheel drive). As every Maserati it feels and looks not in your face and very easy on the eyes, without being pretentious looking like Lambos McLarens and some Ferraris, of course Corvettes. Subdued attitude, without silly wings that if you really were to race, you'd have to change anyways. So it's a poised, gorgeous thing. People are slow. They will understand later on
Isn't that the same engine as the 296? I wonder if you can use a 296 exhaust to change the tone a bit. I don't like the interior door handles, the rear window cover needs to be carbon fiber, not plastic, and the front splitter is a bit of a tragedy, but otherwise, I really like the MC20.
@@JayEmmAndFriends Ahh, okay. I assumed it would be the same with similar production years and often sharing components. I guess that changed when Ferrari separated from Fiat and joined Stellantis.
Can’t get on with a mix of gloss carbon and satin carbon on the interior. Pick one and stick with it on everything. Think it’s a beautiful looking car. The switch gear could do with feeling a little more premium. Same issue in my GranTurismo MC. Window switches wobble and don’t have that high end feel. My old 14 AM definitely felt more premium and better engineered inside. Such a shame Maserati couldn’t make that MC20 engine sing, I think that would have overridden any of the interior foibles. The fact it looks so good but sounds so Alfa / M3 is a shame. Would go for one when they’re £60k odd haha
Lots of people don't know that this car was initially supposed to be Alfa Romeo, but when new ceo was appointed in Fiat group,he decides to give it to Maserati.
Have you seen ProducerMicheal's video "Taking Delivery Of My New Supercar" where he takes delivery of his completely customized MC20? It is incredible!
Like the McLarens, it would be a shame not to get the Cielo. These carbon cars are so stiff that having a convertible becomes a major consideration. Higher price, sure, but if the McLarens and previous Maseratis are any indicator, the Cielo's price will drop like a rock in the next year or two.
That's potentially a good video. They're very different. I suppose if you watch the 488 video we did, you could contrast the different strengths and weaknesses highlighted?
So i have committed myself to daily one of these provided i inherit a good portion of cash and just keep it for as long as possible, ( and as i sit right now its a possibility but unlikely, im a realist) I like these because i dislike supercars, they just aint for me, but this, i feel is one of those "Rare but nobody cares" types, its sweet, its not obnoxious like many and its so simple on the inside, just a display, few buttons and thats it, people grunt at you if you have a car of this caliber with practically any other badge, and it just wants to stay out the way, there are better exotic cars out there, the rich likely call themselves poor if they owned one of these as it does not go out its way to peacock in any other way other than the doors, it does not even have a wing so a GT86 would get more attraction around the town. Back in 2021 i passed a dealership with one of these just outside on the forecourt, it was a yellow (or orange) and yes it was a miserable rainy day, i had no idea what it was at first, and my first thought was "Nobody is going to buy you im afraid" and tbh that made me feel kinda sad, because thats the reality, so few people would buy it regardless of status, everyone else would be looking at other things, so if i got the chance, i would, i would keep it around like a good dog, because to me i likely dont deserve to own a car of that caliber, and i doubt it will get any owner that will keep one on the road for the lifetime i have left, but im a man of my word and i would show it to the world because i doubt anyone else would.
I don't know wha'ts going on with the UK car market. A quick check of Autotrader in the US shows 58 MC20 available, with the cheapest one at $163 000. Most of teh rest hover around the $200k mark. Nothing that screams like a deal here.
I always consider skipping videos about the MC20. It bores me to the point of nodding off. Give me a real Maserati, with a great sounding V8, but this thing they can keep to themselves. Violent appreciation is fully deserved, imho.
Throw into the list for Ant an older and more raw sports car, something like a Noble or TVR. Something that takes time to learn to drive or it will kill you. Think F12 TDF vibes.
The depreciation is no different than a 296gtb, some of which is eyewatering. I own an MC-20 and having owned many other high end cars previously, it’s one of the best cars I’ve owned.
Almost all your reasoning describes the Lotus Emira... sooooo I’ll stick with the Toyota engine and have excellent performance while still being less than an MC20 Talk about “raw driving experience” and “old school” that is the Emira but it does it better and further than the MC20 (doesn’t have MC20 doors though which is sadge)
This is a real enthusiast supercar.... u have to manage the power just like the raw cars of yesteryears..... btw it weighs 1460kgs as per confirmed by autotopnl .....
1 or 2 cars for sale with big price discounts does not mean the model has depriciated fast. I can understand that you would love to buy a 250k car for 125k, good luck for you!
I'm of the belief Leave the screaming exhausts for the crazy youngsters who haven't learn any better That cars perfect for flying under the radar and not being heard coming a mile away

Best looking supercar in some time.
Do any massers hold their money?
The friendship and chemistry that you both have with each other are what makes these videos a bit more than just car reviews
Probably one of the best descriptions I’ve seen on this car. I like the design, but the nsx has the edge for long term value. I believe the nsx will begin appreciating eventually. Maseratis typically drop like a rock after a decade passes. Nice design nonetheless.
I love these. The video would have been so much better if it included some exterior views, commentary and details rather than just inside the car.
Feels the most exotic of potential Ant cars so far
I’ve always seen this car as the BMW i8 gen 2 in terms of depreciation, and what you get. I have no doubt this will get below 100k in a couple years, no doubt.
How can anyone bag the sound of this car? It sounds exciting and glorious to me. Love it.
Not w00k good that’s for sure. More like an 80k lotus…
That mazza is drop dead gorgeous. Real proper head turner. The inside you can tweak and change to your likes if you have 5-10 k spare. Just customise it with an OEM feel. Can change the exhaust as well for 5grand.
James just a point but you need to check your seatbelt position a if you had a crash where it is, it would do some shoulder / chest damage 👍
Was thinking the same.
The Cielo will be the one to have. That being said, I'd much rather go for 488, 720 or 296 instead!
Indeed
How is the suspension super stiff? What???? My first impression was that it was softer then my tesla model 3 perf, my BMW x4m comp, seemed similar to a z51 vette. What am I missing.
100k off and it's still too expensive
Dose it ride better with two people
Just an idea. Is it worth looking at something like a Lancia Delta or R5 turbo. I’ll admit they don’t do the same thing as the R8 but they drive well and are more practical, even if they’re a childish choice. A Clio V6 may be worth a look to.
Nice to see the smile back.
Have you seen the GT2 Stradale, looks amazing.
As a kid, the very first exotic car I saw was a Maserati....they hold a special place for me....Hey Ant, what did you do with that Nissan 270Z Nismo??
After hearing the Lexus LFA nothing compares. Nobody has been able to match that sound
You should listen to the Gmd t50 , it actually sounds better then the lfa
You should get new pair of ears @@rdeh1678
sounds like f1
sounds too artificial or synthetic even if it is natural exhaust noise. Zonda R, Ferrari Enzo or the Carrera GT have a more natural sound. The LFA has become to mystified lately due to their romanticized flop to success story. Yamaha always cleans up too much their noises, making them sound too much like modern musical instruments.
I like this guy. He sounds like he's been making videos for a decade..
Do you mean me? I've had a little practice 😉
Jay in full flow on "man maths" as to why buying one is a good idea financially. To me it looks like a gamble with a high ante and the odds massively against you. But the car is lovely and just driving it will cheer you up about the hundred grand plus that evaporated overnight. Cheers
I absolutely love the look of this car. It’s stunning. But the interior and soundtrack suck compared with my 4200 coupe from years back.
Glorious looking car. Outside. Not enough exterior shots of the car in the video...
They will understand later on
If ever I get the right numbers, MC20 or 720S?
Watch this space 😉
Isn't that the same engine as the 296? I wonder if you can use a 296 exhaust to change the tone a bit. I don't like the interior door handles, the rear window cover needs to be carbon fiber, not plastic, and the front splitter is a bit of a tragedy, but otherwise, I really like the MC20.
It is a different engine, apparently..
The engine is very very similar to the one in the fast Guilia.
Those screens CHEAPENS the cars interior the exterior is Gorgeous
Have you seen ProducerMicheal's video "Taking Delivery Of My New Supercar" where he takes delivery of his completely customized MC20? It is incredible!
Like the McLarens, it would be a shame not to get the Cielo. These carbon cars are so stiff that having a convertible becomes a major consideration. Higher price, sure, but if the McLarens and previous Maseratis are any indicator, the Cielo's price will drop like a rock in the next year or two.
How does the MC20 compare to the 488 GTB?
That's potentially a good video. They're very different. I suppose if you watch the 488 video we did, you could contrast the different strengths and weaknesses highlighted?
@@sportzntouring maybe consider the McLaren GT similar price as the MC20

I just assumed the budget had increased until the depreciation was explained 😢
I know right!!
Was this car design by pininfarina?
So i have committed myself to daily one of these provided i inherit a good portion of cash and just keep it for as long as possible, ( and as i sit right now its a possibility but unlikely, im a realist)
I like these because i dislike supercars, they just aint for me, but this, i feel is one of those "Rare but nobody cares" types, its sweet, its not obnoxious like many and its so simple on the inside, just a display, few buttons and thats it, people grunt at you if you have a car of this caliber with practically any other badge, and it just wants to stay out the way, there are better exotic cars out there, the rich likely call themselves poor if they owned one of these as it does not go out its way to peacock in any other way other than the doors, it does not even have a wing so a GT86 would get more attraction around the town.
I think it's the most beautiful car of the last 20 years. The sound being tame is actually a plus to me, as it makes it a great grand tourer.
Why is it so heavy? Its specs seem like it should be 400+lbs lighter.
Additional chassis bracing/carbon tub thickness in preparation of the EV variant.
Just missing a more thorough exterior walk around and discussion.
Thanks for the feedback. At present you can get that in James's review, over on JayEmm on Cars.
With the price of the 720s and the fact you're borrowing/you've borrowed one recently, should Ant be trying that out as well?
Watch this space 😉
Throw into the list for Ant an older and more raw sports car, something like a Noble or TVR. Something that takes time to learn to drive or it will kill you. Think F12 TDF vibes.
Maserati cars hill assist only work higher than 20 degrees gradient like Fiat and Alfas
The depreciation is no different than a 296gtb, some of which is eyewatering. I own an MC-20 and having owned many other high end cars previously, it’s one of the best cars I’ve owned.
Ditto - it’s the best car I’ve ever had and people love it!!
Similar thing with BMW I8 spyder moneywise. Great to buy used. In burnt orange for me!
Almost all your reasoning describes the Lotus Emira... sooooo I’ll stick with the Toyota engine and have excellent performance while still being less than an MC20
Talk about “raw driving experience” and “old school” that is the Emira but it does it better and further than the MC20 (doesn’t have MC20 doors though which is sadge)
Of course the Maserati is much faster and infinitely more beautiful, but hey it's a sports car, so who cares...
@@acadiaarchitecture3170 More beautiful than the Emira? Not for me duderino
This is a real enthusiast supercar.... u have to manage the power just like the raw cars of yesteryears..... btw it weighs 1460kgs as per confirmed by autotopnl .....
I am ashamed to say I have never seen that car before. It’s beautiful. I will turn in my car guy card and go sit in the corner.
The Alfa Romeo 33 is built with the same chassis from the MC20.
It sounds good to me😊❤
Looks like they're going up. The cheapest in Auto Trader is £145k
1 or 2 cars for sale with big price discounts does not mean the model has depriciated fast.
I can understand that you would love to buy a 250k car for 125k, good luck for you!
Perhaps the MC20 is a modern day Jaguar XJ220 - the engines lack of theatre just lets the car down
The Jag promised but didn't deliver. The MC20 in my eyes is a Guilia engine in a supermodel's body.
Ok so its not perfect. But its a looker. We shall call her Sophia, after Ms Loren. Which is all really.
naming the car after the year of release was lame. it's an MC6.
Italian Honda NSX aka it breaks down more?
All is explained in the video 😁
Get him into a Gardner Douglas T70 Moda! Ticks every box!
shame that it weighs a lot for such a size and carbon tub :/
They priced this car WAY too high. The NSX wasn't really at the time but the problem with that was it didn't look like an NSX.
What’s not to like May be the price❤
@15:12 A nice Mini Cooper!
The fart between gears is louder than the WOT sound. And the interior is awful, especially with the nearly perfect exterior. It's beautiful!
He says it's the same price as a 488, but the difference is that car will go up and value and this one will keep sinking like a stone
A Maserati EV is going to be a very strong contender for the fastest depreciating car of the year award
Can it beat the Taycan is the question... Maybe the Maserati EV would be reliable ????
I'm of the belief
Leave the screaming exhausts for the crazy youngsters who haven't learn any better
That cars perfect for flying under the radar and not being heard coming a mile away
In 10 years we’ll know if it compares to the NSX at least in terms of resale value..The NSX re set how Super Cars were engineered..
So that's why I like the styling. Unfortunately, I doubt it's anywhere near as reliable as an NSX.
Maserati gets VERY VERY expensive once things start breaking that usually wouldn't be expected to break but years catch it like any other car.
