I feel so happy to have mine. It was passed on to me by my father...later on i ended up buying an MJU 1...but always ended up using the pentax because of the manual ISO and the creative freedom it gives ! It IS really sharp as you say. And it never misses focus with the focusing system it has
Great video!!! I spent some time researching comparable cameras to the mju and came across the Pentax PC35AF-M, and so glad I found a working order one! Really great images from the Pentax. Glad I didn’t have to spend an arm and leg on this compared to the competitors that have been hyped by social media lol
Good review. Nice to see the 3 cameras side by side. I have a Pentax. Yes I agree, the contrast, colour and sharpness are 1st class. Nice to have manual wind and film speed too. Modified mine to remove the low shutter speed warning tone. But as with all things Pentax. Lovely cameras, superb images, just not a popular brand especially with the current batch of Hipster's.
@@karllucaspindler5665 Hi. No I wouldn't worry about it. I only removed the tone to see how it's done. You just disable the piezo disc inside but you have to open the camera casing to do it. I wouldn't risk it. I use a Konica C35 as my go to point and shoot. It's a small rangefinder with a cracking good lens.
Great video! Seems to me like the Pentax's optics are on par with the Stylus Epic, but the Olympus exposes for the shadows rather than the highlights. As the Pentax exposes for the highlights, the pictures look more pleasant at first glance, but personally I'd rather expose for the shadows if I'm shooting color negative to maintain shadow detail, and adjust the highlights in post. As the PC35AF has manual a ISO slider it would be very easy to shoot film at +1 EV above box speeds. It seems like a great affordable alternative to the Stylus Epic.
Nicely done comparison. By my eye the Epic is quite good and lens/AF was very close, but virtually every picture except one seemed better on that Pentax where the Pentax's tendency to expose a little less meant the foreground was a bit too dark. A bit surprised to the extent that your AF-1 struggled so badly and seemed far inferior on most shots to the other two. I think a nice feature on the PC35AF that hardly anybody mentions is how in the viewfinder there's a scale that on half-press shows roughly the AF focus distance.
I inherited a PC35AF but it didn’t work after loading batteries. So I bought the motorized version on eBay for $60 and loaded it up with Ektar 100 film. Can’t wait to see the pics!
Just ordered the Pentax you feature here. I like the manually adjustable ASA feature and the manual film advance. Also I like the sharp color intense images you show for the Pentax, great idea comparing these three models! Finally, in my opinion the Pentax looks the best of the three as well. Fantastic video...very helpful!

Great idea! Don't sleep on getting that Pentax. It is my preference over the other two Olympus cameras compared here in this video. The Pentax is simply not well known as the others, but it is the sleeper camera with Zeiss-like optics! Find a mint condition one and you will be very happy.
Just bought a mint Pentax PC 35AF off the back of this video a great deal too, far cheaper than the overpriced Mju. A hidden gem it seems, probably not for too much longer though. Nice comparison vid. Good work 👌

The Stylus Epic is known as the Mju outside of the US..? For me, there was little to choose between the Stylus and the PC35, with the AF1 in agreement with your comments.
It was bought at an estate sale. The elderly gentleman who passed away was a collector and never even used it. It was still inside the original box unopened. Paperwork and receipts all included. I had to replace the light seals but is really a new camera.
Nou Vang Definitely! Of the 3 cameras in this video the Pentax is my choice but now the secret is out! The only down fall of the Pentax is that it cannot shoot at iso 1000.
Does the pentax have auto apurture and shutter? Cant find much information on that. also wondering about other pentax cameras like pc33 or pc55. thanks!
It has auto everything except for ISO, flash, film loading, film advancement, film rewind. I don’t know about pc33 or pc55 - I never owned those models.
Usually I don't use the flash. It is manual and I tend to forget its there. All the shots in this video were done without using the flash on the pentax.
It would be interesting to see the Rollei 35 (Tessar) and Olympus XA in there also, but I do understand; one can't have them all. The Zuiko lens on the Infinity SHOULD be the best, as Zuiko is supposed to be better than the regular Olympus lenses. Bad AF though, it seems. I'm surprised that the Epic did as well as it did, as I've heard it's nothing special. FWIW - I had a Yashica T4, and it was quite good, but not as good as the Tessar in the Rollei 35. I have a Nikon "One Touch" L35AF3, which is almost as good as the Rollei 35's Tessar. The Olympus mju/Stylus (original) is not quite as good, as it is a 3-element lens and is soft in the corners. That can be a nice look however... I have a PC35AF on the way. I really like the idea of AF, but with manual re/winding and some photographer-friendly features, like +1.5 backlight compensation and manual flash choice. Nice job.

Great comparison video. I definitely prefer the lens on the Pentax. The colors are a bit warmer to me.
