So many people would charge for these lessons. You can't buy any better instruction than this. Thanks for your generosity and dedication in providing such a wonderful resource for free.
This is EXACTLY what I needed. Lessons on droning don't talk about this technique, which totally the thing that makes bluegrass fiddling sound so cool. Thanks!
You're welcome! Glad you found the video. I started a subscriber site at fiddlehed.com last year. The TH-cam lessons will continue to be available but the site has guided lessons with tabs, play alongs, etc. You can have free access to the site for the forum, blog, request list and the first few beginner lessons. There is also a Fiddlehed Facebook page. Let me repeat, the free TH-cam videos (hundreds of them) will still be out there but depending on what your goals are, you might find the site helpful. Keep playing! Cheers.
You answered the question of "when" to play double stops.in the past, I've gotten vague answers from people like "just feel it". You're method creates a great pulsing old timey sound. Not exactly easy being rhythmically challenged, so I'm starting slowly with a metronome, but somewhere to start and so much better than winging it or droning the whole time.
Thank goodness my computer did not freeze so I was able to see the entire single and double stop alternation technique lesson this morning. Thank you very much for your concern. I learn so much from your lessons. You are a patient, thorough, excellent teacher. Darlene
Just had a big "ah hah" moment at the end of the video. Watching and playing through the ideas for the "n th" time. Thanks for looping the beginning of Arkansas Traveller - I now "get," the 2 feel pulse. I'm going to be driving everyone nuts playing if endlessly! 2 and four pulses groove much better than constant droning .
hey man thanks for all these videos! just listened to your band Diego'"s umbrella! sounds great! cheers from northern Canada! :)keep up the good work man i watch your videos and they really help, getting better everyday i love it! PEAce!

I need to tell you. Sometimes, not when you are teaching, but sometimes, you have the head of a cat! You have helped me, so I wanted to return the favor. Yes, a black and white cat head. Did you know?
double stops is my nemesis, but I think this may make it possible for me to accomplish... I'll see. I do know playing a fiddle with single stops only is a little like going on a slid at the playground. double stops is more like the Screaming Eagle at Six Flags. I'll comment again if it works.
Can you please let me know where I could find violin books on 2nd and 3rd stops. Not on eBay and Amazon as I had a bad experience from both of them. I live in Sydney NSW Fairfield/Liverpool NSw Australia Thanks
Aruna, keep at it. Trust me, it will get easier. If you start feeling frustrated, put them on the back burner but come back to them. Pick the easiest one and just do one in the tune. Then add another one. You don't have to learn this in a week. Take your time. Those double stops are worth it and they will start to sound better.
Wow you Luckies! I have been practicing double stops everyday since November for as long as I can stand the screeching. Now January and I am screeching less. I have not tried any songs except bolim cabbage down. If you think you're having trouble just think of me, old pork chop fingers. With apparently, less evolved hands, I question my opposable thumbs as well. Anything is possible, including double stops. Even if, like me, you have the hands of a neanderthal.
I push the D string toward the G when I push down. I've got pork chop fingers. I don't know if it's technically correct, but, it's better than duct tape.
@@fiddl3hed You have such a great attitude and love of music and life. It is very infectious!! I played again today! 2 week challenge. Brilliant concept.
So much thanks, your lessons are awesome, it allows you to approuch in a instintive way to the playing. The song you play at the end has a name? or its just a improvisation? i would like to search for sheets or make it. :D @FiddleHed

Thank you, James. The new web site will have some premium lessons but there will continue to be free lessons available, too.

Really enjoying your lessons. This one is simple but so versatile. Fun to play around with!!

So thank you so much for this jam packed lesson, there's a lot to work with there, but if one sticks to it, it can be a game changer in one's sound.

Jill Spangler Thank you Jill, I have medication for it, but I’ve come to accept the inevitable full transformation... 😻
Do you have any tutorials on the Irish 5 note roll?

Thank you so much. Having a tough time practising a song on double stops

FiddleHed Yeah so true. Its my 4th day with double stops now and I am liking the tune :)

Fiddle Hed, do you play with a classical bridge or a flatter bridge?
It appears flatter…
Totally excellente!!!!!
Classical bridge :)
How do you keep your finger from touching the A string when playing scale on D string?
I push the D string toward the G when I push down. I've got pork chop fingers. I don't know if it's technically correct, but, it's better than duct tape.
Wow. How someone could give this s thumbs down beggars belief !!!!
Dave Harper To each their own!

Dave Harper That is so kind, thank you so much for being in our Fiddle Hed Fam!!
Hi, unfortunately, this video stops just before its half way through. Is anyone having this problem? All Fidelhed videos are amazing. I'm a huge fan.
Darlene, I played the video and didn't have a problem. Don't know why this could happen. Have you tried again?

Arkansas Traveler. I have some TH-cam lessons for this tune. Search "Arkansas Traveler Fiddlehed" .Cheers.
