For real, this is basically the same type of content that I subscribed for, and I'm so glad he's financially stable enough to go back to it.
The impressive thing is.... a lot of these would have actually got to the Mun with some better fuel management and a different pilot.

@@aturchomicz821 Some of the later ones actually had ~4500m/s of delta-V. It's not guaranteed, but those could get most of the way to the Mun.

The fact he didn't do the asparagus technique to kick empty fuel tanks and cut weight kinda irritated me. He probably could have made it on like the 3rd design forward just from that tweak. It wasn't in the rules he couldn't

If I recall correctly, he only had issues with flapping for very short periods, then the issues changed to plummeting. I think it's fair to say the flapping phase was quite short and quickly became a non-issue.

Asparagus staging, fuel lines connected for the outside to the inside, as the outside fuel tanks lose fuel you decouple them. The removal of dry weight lets you go faster with less engines. Also it makes it easier to control as it get lighter.

This is pretty spectacular. Seeing Dan, someone with years of experience, pretend to fail at KSP is quite inspiring. I could not have imagined being able to do this myself with the same gusto and sincerity he seems to be giving each "attempt". Asparagus staging isn't something one can possibly forget.

I don't think he had (or has) the faintest idea that fuel lines are directional.

The last design probably could have made it to the moon and back if you had connected fuel lines from the outermost engine to the next one, then from that one to the next and so forth until you reach the center and if you then dropped the fuel tanks starting from the outermost one when they emptied.

I haven't watched a video of yours for years. I always stayed subscribed and was happy you were still doing stuff. Opening this up and hearing 'hello procrastinators' hit me like a freight train
Exceptionally funny, But there was at least 3 rockets there that could have worked if you had piloted them correctly. for example one of the last ones you burned after the apoapsis and fell back into the atmosphere, had you have burned earlier you would have gotten into orbit with about 4000m/s delta V left.
