    I think the idea is not bad. Black&Decker and also some less known trademarks had similar modular systems where you have one motor module and power pack, where you can put several Tool Heads on it, for different tasks. Of course, this kind of solution were never meant to aim at professional worker market. This is more the solution for the hobby "Tool time" guy, who does some repairs or project around the house.
    On this construction what you tested, my main problem would be the Attachment mechanism and the high rotation speed without any electronic regulation and safety protection. This is not very thrustworthy.
    Thank you for showing this "toy" to us.

    That was hilarious. Although frighteningly fast and unsafe, it works really well. Good info on the hard hat, there is a TH-cam video of a guy trimming small logs and touches the end of a stump just past them. The saw came of and hit him in the forehead. He drops the saw and runs towards the camera bleeding.

    I know of something even more dangerous-a guardless 6 inch skilsaw blade for a grinder. I know of a workplace accident where one “walked” up a guy’s arm, across his chest, and partially down the other arm. I’ve seen fatal shark attacks produce less blood. The dude lived, but 1200 stitches and 2 surgeries later, he probably wished he hadn’t.

    Complicated Metric System?? I seem to remember you having trouble halving the imperial measurement of the riverside bench! The Metric System uses simple maths. Anyone who thinks they can easily use imperial measurements with fractions is kidding themselves.

  • @fisbuar
    @fisbuar 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    I can see this contraption mounted to a bench, and use it as a general speed cutter for wood. I would not dare hold that thing in my hand, if that chain gets eaten from friction, and comes loose, it will slice your face in half, or chop of your 3rd leg.

  • @chris082681
    @chris082681 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    As someone who uses both metric and imperial, I can assure you metric is much much less complex.
    Water is the most common liquid on the planet, so metric is based on it.
    1 litre of water which weighs 1 kilogram, perfectly fills a cube that is 10 centimeters x 10 cm x 10 cm big... This means that the density of water in metric is 1g/cm^3. Anytime you need to increase your measurements by an order of magnitude, you just multiply by 10... Since we're a base 10 counting system it just makes sense...
    With inches you multiply by 12 to get a foot? Why? Multiply that by 3 to get a yard... 1760 yards in a mile... Why... Ridiculous.

    I have to wonder how well a *cordless* grinder would’ve held up to the power drain. I’ve used angle grinders a few times, but only corded ones, so I can appreciate the torque/speed to which you referred. Boy though… that lack of a kickback clutch is scary as hell.
    Question: Could you buy a quality chain in that size?

    ------ as long as the grinder you slap it on has a trigger and NOT just an ON/OFF switch, it really isn't a bad little tool - put it on a grinder which only has a toggle or an ON/OFF slider and it becomes a real potential danger - but then a grinder with just a toggle is already dangerous.

    It's a great tool if your timber framing, rough in or demo. Makes lath and plaster removal faster and is safer than running your skill saw on walls and easier to control your depth than a reciprocating saw. You want to hang an apron on it though for chips and if the chain decides it wants in your pocket.

    All OSHA compliant angle grinders have a paddle switch which is basically a deadman device.
    An upside to being injured, because I cut corners (pun intended) on saftey, is I learned that an a paddle switch is excellent at mitigating personal injury.

    i had to fix my backyard "jungle", when i bought a house. I've installed this thing on my mini-Makita grinder, without any handles, oiling bottled and protection. Operating with one hand like with a light sabre, I managed the situation in few hours. As for the oiling, i was using an out of road motor chain oil in spraycan in my other hand. It was quick and easy. But, if i would be doing it more often, i would go with a full normal chainsaw, for sure.

    I worked pretty good. I wouldn’t replace a chainsaw with it but I would definitely consider it if I was creating a tool like a homemade pole saw or a firewood chopper or some kind of machinery where I needed a chainsaw blade on it, it could be actuated with a relay, so if you were going to build something you could run some logs through and chop to length and have them drop into the wood splitter, that would be a very cheap option. You would have to find a better oiling system but for a fixed chainsaw blade to drive mechanism it’s pretty good. I’m not sure it’s legal though because they can’t sell a chainsaw without a break on it so I’m sure there’s some regulation out there that would make this thing illegal, But I can definitely think of some uses for it and I love that it cuts so fast, so I’m guessing that’s going to produce more heat and possibly dull the blade quicker.
