- In 1989 I photographed parts of Leicester and have come back in 2024 , 35 years later, to see how things have changed, moving between images from 1989 and 2024.
These are the areas I will cover in this video, Entrance to New Walk including the Phoenix House, Wygston 's House and the nearby warehouses, The Old Grammar School on Old School Lane, the Magazine, Newarke Houses Museum, the Castle including the mound and also the church, St Mary De Castro covering the question - what happened to its spire? There are also some warehouses on Gateway Street and then Newarke Bridge.
This is the second of three Then and Now videos I am making on Leicester.
The pictures I took back in the 80s are from all over the city so I have tried to group them together. In this video, the second, we will focus on roughly around the castle and De Montfort University, which was called Leicester Polytechnic then and the third roughly around the railway station and going out to the Welford Road including the old cattle market. The first was the more central area, the link for the video is at the end

Brilliant, love these old images. Subscribed!
I just returned myself after 7 years and this video mirrors a walk around just last week. Fascinating
Really good vid, thanks for posting.
Yes, it’s lovely to see how places have changed over the years or not, some places very little change has happened and other places are not recognisable anymore
Thanks, glad you enjoyed
