Hi Darrell. It’s interesting about the garden bird watch because we know years ago we used to see lots of Greenfinches and Chaffinches. Now we only see them occasionally. Thanks Jon and Sandra

Sad to see them decline. I did see a couple of chaffinches, but one appeared to have one leg.

Hey Darrell, I am here in the Pacific North West of the US and the number of birds in my yard are down as well. I think the increase of neighborhood cats is helping the decline. It's amazing how people think it's ok for their cats to go anywhere they want. Great information and photos as usual. Greg

Thanks Greg. Good to hear from you from over the pond. We have cats (4), but they stay indoors and don't go out.

Darrell, funny we have 3 indoor cats as well. I wish more people would be responsible owners. I'm always looking forward to your videos! Greg

I do a lot of forest walks with my DSLR since decades ! Nowadays, I encounter more pets than birds ! Makes me think !

Lovely video Darrell, surprised you weren't going to do a video on the Big Garden Bird Watch, I always enjoy watching this one. The change is interesting over the years. I may do the BTO surveys as a retirement project in a few years ... I might even learn how to use my camera properly at the same time! All the best.

Thanks Ken. I am always self conscious about making videos that are almost copies of previous ones, so unless I can think of a different angle I am reluctant to to do the same again.

Great video again! Just to mention that France also does a garden birdwatch on the last week-end of January and Germany the first week-end every year. So I wondered whether these data are gathered and used across Europe (for the countries that make such survey).
Also a comment about avian malaria, many parasite species of this branch don't impact birds as much as they do for instance in humans. So it's not because sparrows have them in their blood that it causes a disease! Cheers

Thanks for watching Tony. My info about avain malaria is direct from the RSPB website.

The house--sparrow population ( hundreds of pairs) that traditionally build their nests in the Hedera and Partenocissus plants that grow on my facade has this year been totally absent ! I know , these birds can be of a nuisance to neighbors !
