Great guide overall! Having been lucky enough to drive more than two dozen laps of the Nordschleife, I will add a couple of thoughts for 1st timers at the circuit: 1) Do not take a rental car (Avis, Hertz, etc) to the track. They use GPS trackers and you will get a very large surcharge. 2) When you rent at the track, get an automatic transmission. I know that sounds bad...but you will be busy enough without having to focus on shifting. 3) Home driving simulators (Xbox, PlayStation, etc) are great, but they cannot give your body the feeling you will experience on the track. EG: The weightlessness at the Flugplatz or the negative camber at the bottom of Fuchsrohre. These can make your stomach queasy if you are not expecting it! 4) Take a break after the first two laps. You may be somewhat exhausted from the adrenaline rush that will hit you. It is a blast to drive, but it requires a lot from you both physically and mentally. 5) Start with a rental that matches your personal vehicle. Do not start with a 911 if your daily driver is a Focus. 6) As stated in the video, don't try to set a track record on your first lap. Work your way into the lap and build up your speed slowly. Above all else: A successful day at the track is defined by exiting the track in as good a condition as when you arrived! If both you and the vehicle leave in good condition, that is your win!
@@cobbomusic It's all relative... the IoM is way longer, Targa Florio is 4x the Nordschleife.. If I drive around NS in a decently fast car in a sim it's about 7 minutes. That's just not that long.. Targa takes me on average 45min.. And IoM 20-ish Also every time you drive it, it becomes more familiar, and it feels shorter somehow... And I have about 4000 hours in driving the Nordschleife in sims alone.. So for me it's not that long..
This is it guys, a new world record on the nords 2:44:30, i'm really glad you had the patience go through it all with such attention to detail. To be more in-depth than this only if you count how many trees are around the circuit. Awesome video!
Great video! Adding this to my bucket list, along with Spa. Still haven't mastered it in simulators. Hard to imagine racing on this at night. Those guys are fearless.
What an honor to be able to hear greats freely give such great insight and experience into this intricate and difficult track. Wonderful job keeping it accessable to those of us who are still learning. Cheers and big thanks.
i was hoping you were talking about Nordschleife when you mentioned you're preparing the biggest guide yet. this is what i really needed. fantastic work
Great tutorial. Adam does a great job of explaining everything on the track to even a novice. Loved the use of slippy, thought that was a Pittsburgh word. Congratulations on the win and many many thanks for giving us this. Best of luck going forward, you earned a lot of fans, myself included. Thanks for always making the distinction between car types. Absolutely love this. Back in the early Gran Turismo (and TH-cam) days I had found a ride along video with Allan McNish in his BMW and it was the most beautiful thing my young racing mind had ever seen. This has been my favourite track ever since that day. Such an amazing track. Has a bit of everything to test ya throughout a full lap

@@souk-tv I can concur... I learned the track using Assetto Corsa, managed a sub 9min laps in GT86 on Semi's during my first time there (was a track day).
A mere 8 seconds in, and I'm throwing a like; basically just for the volume of work that went into this thing. Thanks, man! The 34 that clicked the thumb down weren't loved enough while in the cradle. Or after, really. A bitter bunch.
Incredibly deep and thoughtful. I've only driven there on sims, but even sections where I thought I had a good pace there's still time to shave thanks to this tips. Wonderful! Congrats
Loved the video, very good instructions, many details. Fun Fact: After 2:44 h (length of the video), in a race (including GP the track) the GT3 car would have made around 18 laps, 2 stops to refuel and probably already had a driver change. By the time we arive at Galgenkopf here, until the end of the video, a lot of people would have done a complete lap on the TF layout (~9 min.). ;) Thanks a lot, Adam and Scott.
Driver61 my God! Absolutely love this track on simracing. I'm about to watch the video, but I already know it's going to be great. Thank you so much for this incredible video!
Driver61 invent a time machine and go back 45+ years. It cost 10 german marks for 2 laps which you started in the pits and took consecutively without having to stop in the middle of the long straightaway. As a bonus you could also add the now defunct sudschleife part which added another almost 5 miles to your lap. At least that's what I recall it was like. It's been a while.
If things go wrong: Lock the brakes. Many people crash hard because they try to save the car, then the tyres get grip again and they head directly towards the armco.
Last week, the Skip Barber series on iracing was at the Nurburgring. Man it was so much fun. In the course of the week my time went from about 8:45 on the first go round to 8:16.1 as my personal best before the week ended. I know the even quicker guys were going 11 seconds faster. Give or take some more seconds.
Great guide, particularly helpful for those who have already been at the ‘Ring. You could have provided much more guidance on turn in points, there are plenty of references. Fully acknowledge that different cars = slightly different turn in points, but there is some consensus amongst instructors what the references should be for road / track day car. On that topic, the Radical is quite an odd choice here, it gets away often with very early turn in points due to the aero, nothing one should do with a road car. However, many valuable hints, so thanks for the effort.
I am not at the end of the video yet, but as it is not mentioned in the introduction, it is maybe advised to not go for a couple of laps in a row if your car is not track prepared ? just for the brakes, friend of mine in Porsche faced a completely "spongy" brake pedal after overheating obviously (2 laps in a row).. Just a noobie observation, never too careful :s
I was there 6 years a go. I practised for the f1 gp track. I did it and it was fun. But when I saw this track, how narrow and stip it is, I just got chils. Somone also died that day there, so they had to close the track. But now I will go back. I am practising every day in ac and automobilista 2.
I've been running this course on a BeamNG multiplayer server that tracks hotlaps, and after days of crashing or going off track too many times I finally hit a 7:23. Then after another day of crashing I hit a 7:21. Some of the times for the same vehicle (but tuned/upgraded better) are below 6:30! Hands down my favorite track

But then you should charge for big guides for tracks like SPA/Nurb. Anyway, I'm really thankful for this... for Grand Prix Legends purposes haha

I don’t think we instructors or any experienced driver can stress often or strongly enough how impossible it is to develop race skills driving modern performance cars. Forget recent sports cars, an E30 M3 is way too much car for a novice. Even most very good semi-pro racers will never be able to extract 100% out of something like a race prepped M3 let alone a supercar.
Great guide overall!
