Typically, if there were a black, white & red, the BLACK is (hot) controling the FAN BLOWER, a white is (neutral) and then ALSO a RED, it would be hot ALSO, but used to control either a 'heater', or a 'light'. It would have a separate switch that controls either that HEATING element OR the light.
