    What a fun experience! My father used to do silk screen designs, mostly on paper (like Christmas cards). He didn't have to hold the template with his fingers, so it was easier for him! When I get back to Kyoto I will have to visit Hiiragiya Shinshichi. Thank you for sharing!

      @Rainbow Rose Princess Mishti It was mainly a hobby of his, not a business. Sadly my father passed away about 8 years ago, and none of us kids have really taken up the hobby. But thanks for asking!

    Wonderful video, I am glad they have crests there with less history as well. I hear a lot of people especially people in the West who only want authentic traditional Japanese culture (for example Kamon used for centuries), but they fail to realize that at one time or another all of those crests were original and new, and culture does evolve.
    I think it is important to remember and respect traditional culture as well as be able to incorporate new/evolving culture.

      How does one know what his family crest is if grand father came to Hawaii in early 1900’s?

    • @GamingDad
      @GamingDad 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @glennyonemoto2326 you try to make sure that they didn't change their name. If they did then it you'd need to figure out their old name and carry on from there. A quick Google can actually help you find the kamon.

    I love this "let's go explore Kyoto videos", they're so cute. 😊
    I'm curious about something. Seeing as how this dye shop can put kamon on accessories and my mind, like a true nerd, went straight to dice bags, it got me to wondering, are tabletop pen and paper role playing games like Dungeons & Dragons all that popular in Japan?

    • @kaitotheunknown975
      @kaitotheunknown975 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Call of Cthulhu is actually the most popular TTRPG in Japan. It's obviously a geek/otaku thing though. They also have some cool original games. I really enjoy Ryuutama. The biggest difference is that in Japan because people might have a hard time having a regular group it's popular to be able to play in one shots easily.

    • @01Elendil
      @01Elendil 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @Rainbow Rose Princess Mishti I know right? Pharaoh Narmer's name literally comprises the hieroglyphs for a catfish (nꜥr) and a chisel (mr), thus the name Narmer. He is like the Nobunaga of ancient Egypt, the great unifier of the two lands (upper and lower Egypt).

Like my birthday, zodiac, and constellation mixed into one without having to do three different prints.
