    My 2 cents
    1. Get a mini van like Toyota, honda gets way better mpg than a truck and high interior can load a lot
    2. Look for free on Craigslist, Facebook and ask what's wrong. Then know If you want to fix, are capable of fixing or part out in ebay.
    3. Ebay selling parts items can get you more than selling working units , but takes more work to tear down and put it bins, then shipping process
    4. Free are way go until might buy from a warehouse in bulk. But that take a large $ to by a truck load.
    5. If you don't have space at your home, look into renting a storage unit to store and repair.
    6. Get a vehicle that can deliver or a trailer . Get a good appliance dolly and portable lift table to lift heavy units . Most sales will come from people who need delivery as they don't have a big enough vehicle
    7. If you scrap appliances strip them of good parts and copper. Get a copper wire stripper.
    I do as a side hustle on days off and get around $1500-2000 month.

    I’ve worked at a big box retailer for 28 years, and I’ve handled enough appliances to last a lifetime. It’s hard to estimate how many good, still working appliances have been destroyed over the years. People like to buy the matching set, so they get rid of both the old ones. It’s a shame! Drivers hate haul aways so if you could get them beforehand, everyone wins. I’ve hauled off whole apartment complexes full of appliances, almost all of which still worked. And they all got crushed. They are out there if you keep your eyes open. And that’s a good tip about the roach infested refrigerators. They like to build nests around the warm compressors, so if you see a few, there’s probably a whole lot more.

    Howdy, I flip washers and dryers in OKC for my retirement side hustle. Before I was an Appliance Repair Technician for 8 years. Now-a-days, I flip 2-3 a week. I get almost all of my inventory for free. Right now, I have 18 awaiting repairs and resale. I have 3 (2 Washer and 1 Dryer) ready for sale. The market here in OKC is $150 -$170 each with delivery and 30 day warranty. Above that amount, it's a tough sale. Repairs are typically easy for me and I have a ton of scrap parts. I get a lot of GE's that the bottom sheet metal was rubbing on the flywheel (past 2 dolly mistakes), otherwise in perfect condition. I cut the bottom sheet metal out and sell the machines the next day for $149.

    I chase down the delivery guys like the ice cream truck lol. The best way to learn about appliances is to take them apart. Even if you decide the unit is not worth repairing, you get lots of parts to use for other repairs. My personal favorite these days is to buy them on Facebook from people who either upgraded or already can tell you what the problem is, and you can buy them for way less than wholesale prices, all it costs it some drive time. Scrappers damage too many machines, so I prefer delivery crews like I said. Even if you feel morally questioned about that, I have done plenty of deals where I will give them cash, and an old unit to take back as the "trade in/pick up".

      Is verify that you are getting proper voltage to the control board itself period from there, I would suggest buying an ESR metre and start testing your capacitors. Very frequently a capacitor or 2 could be bad which would provide the need Ed voltage to the display panels. Very cheap fixes on what would otherwise be a very expensive board to replace

    Thanks for the vid! What are some things to look for when opening a location. In the process of looking know but not sure.

    • @bensappliancesandjunk
      @bensappliancesandjunk  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Big thing is going to be water and power. Without easy access, you're gonna fight a battle. You want to make sure that you can add water to the location easily for additional washer test bays, as well as add more hookups for stoves and dryers. The more you can test on the line, the faster you can flip... You want at least 2 washer bays and 2 stove/dryer bays that can run constantly.
      That means if you have, say, a 100 or 150a panel, its not good. When you add heat/HVAC/lighting for the building, you could even be hitting 200a at times, which could be a problem depending on size of building (refrigerators need electric too!). Heck, the lights are flickering at my shop right now trying to run a chop saw and 2 washers off the same breaker. We have room to add more, but its CRITICAL you look at these things first. Dropping new electric/panel can get the prices to rise really fast.
      Location? Not a big deal unless you sell new. People tend to be willing to drive for appliances to save money, so this makes it advantageous to get deals outside of well-trafficked areas.
      After this, how hard is loading/unloading appliances, both for you and customers? How can you load if you had to by yourself? I think its a good question to consider, too. Most customers can't load themselves and will rely on you... Usually w/o a trailer. What will the showroom look like, or will you at all?
      Ultimately, you can run a refurn shop in a total dump if it has water and electric, those are the most important and the rest is tangental... I ran mine out of a junky falling-apart wearhouse. My current shop is in and old church. But it has 2 electric drops and we were able to do whatever we wanted/needed with water, so my bills are really, really cheap. Shop is out of the way, but we sold $4,400 today because no one cared to drive awhile.

Wholesale mechs are $60+ S&H.

    My motto.... buy at $65, sell at $365.
    Although, I'd never sell a set under $395..... my minimum nowadays is $450 but if I get something for cheap or free, I'd sell it for $395. Don't be afraid to set that price up over $400, you can always go down in price. In the DFW area I sell sets all day, every day for $450-$600.
    Normally, the haul away drivers will almost always want you to buy most everything they have, so like for me, I only sell washers and dryers, so I had to get creative. How creative can YOU get?
    I took most of May off but back to making money.

    • @bensappliancesandjunk
      @bensappliancesandjunk  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      If I was in a big city, I'd definitely be at $400+ on any WD set. Unfortunately, I'm in a podunk town, and Columbus OH has a LOT of competition and prices are... oddly.... deflated for some reason.

    • @lilolme69
      @lilolme69 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@bensappliancesandjunk I live in a large metroplex but I try to not sell around me. lol I try to sell to the podunk towns. If I sell a regular sized tub Whirlpool/Kenmore/Maytag set around me, I can get $450 easy and if they want it delivered and set up $49 for a total of $499. But if I sell to the podunk towns around me, A) I get to not drive in traffic, mostly country driving. B) Very rarely any tolls. C) I can sell it delivered for a total of $550. So it's the opposite here, I can make more in the podunk towns and not near as much in the city. If I sell in the city, I can only get $499 total minus gas, minus high priced tolls and minus my nerves dealing with idiots in traffic. lol I'd rather drive 2 hours in the country than 30 minutes in the city. There is a guy up north of me, out in the country and he gets as much for 1 piece as I do for a set and he doesn't give a warranty over 24 hours. lol He sells the heck out of appliances.

      Good gravy. I resell and flip and no one ever will pay over $200 unit even from top line and most won't pay over $100 per working unit. I get more money parting out than selling working units and I get units for free off Craigslist and facebook.
      People are buying used for a reason because they can't afford new. And paying $365 per unit is absurd ridiculous, no one will pay that on Craigslist or Facebook especially. Just got look on Facebook and Craigslist of working units in your area most are $100 a unit or less.

    • @lilolme69

      @@dylano7242 That's odd, in the last week I've sold 17 sets (I'm out or else I would have sold more). The week before I sold 9 sets. I love being absurd and ridiculous as I drive to the bank to make a deposit (actually my wife deposits the money but I wanted to sound cool). I do look on Facebook and see those low prices, I'm just glad people buy those few cheap sets and then buy the good, high priced sets from me after those cheap ones are gone! Craigslist? I think I posted on there in 2013 a couple of times.... just not my kind of people. They too cheap. I have a set sold today ($625) and 2 sets sold for tomorrow already ($599 & $675). I'd have more sold but I can't get them ready fast enough. I'm sorry if you suck at selling but don't say no one will pay it because I'm living proof....
