Watched yesterday and tried some the running techniques you mentioned this morning on a 3 miler. Ran faster than expected, thank you for the advice and content
Thank you HellahGood ! first time viewing your channel , I’m still learning how to run with good form and I’m in my mid 40s lol! It’s never too late to learn, and you are an excellent teacher.
Haha! The first thing I noticed in the thumbnail was the raised shoulders. I'm a very casual runner, and that's one thing I always struggle with. Thanks for sharing this info, man!
Very helpful Hella! Your tips are coming from your unique experience. All the time you spend running you actually think about your form, how you do it and how can you improve your efficiency and then share it with us. Love your energy! Keep spreading love.
HellahGood your the running Guru I swear!! Im defo going to work on improving my arm motion, and the lean forward. I feel so comfortable on my runs thanks to you and my new altra paradigm 6, like running on clouds, yours look great to! This has got to be the most efficient and comprehensive need to know about running, I could saved years of bad form if I found you earlier.
Can’t tell you how much I appreciate your knowledge. Can you please do a video on cadence. I always try to stay at a 180 cadence which is good and bad. Good because I think it reduces my injuries but bad because ego to stay there pushes me too hard.
I decided that I wanted to be able to run a 5k by the end of the year. Right now I can only jog two minutes at a time. I never realized growing up that there was a proper running form. It's interesting how different it is from what I thought! Very informative video I will be implementing your tips as much as I can moving forward.
@@AWildKyle I have definitely felt like I can run faster since I started doing it more. However I have come up against my conditioning. One of my legs is weaker than the other and I started feeling knee pain that kept me from running. Took some time to implement some lower body bodyweight strength training into the routine. So will now be trying to balance how often I run vs how I often I do "leg day." Either way I am feeling good about the direction I'm taking.
Hello, just found your channel and havent dived deep yet, but I was wondering what you do for cooldown? Do you have a postwork stretch routine, and how do you deal with tendinitis/ inflammation. Thanks for the great cues in the video👍
Hey Hella what an informative video this is. Thank you 👏✌👍🧡 Please let us know when will you gonna upload video on Posterior Shin Splint?? You said in your last YT video that you're making a video on "HOW TO AVOID SHIN SPLINTS" Please make that video and upload it, waiting for your that video
I wouldn't describe it as a "back kick" i would describe it as drawing your knee up and forward, the so called kick is really just a result of such movement.
The elite marathoners that “heel strike” when you slow down their form, is not an actual heel strike. It’s a heel touch but the forces end up more mid foot, so it’s not slowing them down
after toe off, having a high heel kick is efficient, especially at faster paces, because you’re shortening the radius of your lever (leg, as you contract and pull your heel) from its pivot point and in turn you’re creating a smaller moment of inertia. this means your muscles use less energy to swing your leg forward as you prepare for the next stride. for example, it’s a lot easier for you to spin on an office chair with your limbs very close to you, where the opposite is true if you spread your limbs completely out. a similar effect is goes on with the right amount of heel lift for a given pace your body seems to subconsciously learn how much heel lift allows for max efficiency at a given pace. so just like any other part of a proper running form, adjusting this is just a matter of what “feels right” (spoken from just a college student who’s taken physics, not a scientist nor anyone who’s taken classes on biomechanics. just me connecting some dots)
Well said. It also feels like gravity assists the hip swing forward as the heel falls. This is something I’m working on. I’m trying to improve mobility and hamstring strength to do this better.
@@jdgatlin8813 i think when i wrote this i was overthinking the whole idea, but both yes, and no, and it depends on the pace and other things im prob unaware of. i actually know what you’re talking about but have no idea how to correct it 😭 id assume it would include some hip strengthening if that points you in the right direction, but otherwise i wish you luck in figuring it out!
People are strange (Inc me.) When I go downhill I use my forefoot to brake my momentum, not my heels. I have to consciously want to use my heels to run with them in any forms. It's a reflex and I feel if I use my heels I'll slide and fall on my back, kind of like the feeling you get walking on ice. Even when braking my momentum for any action like jumping or to change directions I use my forefoot and toes. Never understood how people could run with their heels. Only time I use or land on my heels is when walking.
@@HellahGood I’m look up to your achievements and consistency & dedication very much as man that a positive person that 👀 like me !! For the world to see !! Thank you 🙏 your time & patience !!
haha thank you! I'd love to try it out. I used to do Karate when I was younger! But I played soccer my whole life so I think the strong legs have just been so built up that it's easy to keep them strong
Forefoot running is a game changer. Was a heel striker for the first few years of my running journey. I was always messed up with sore knees. Changed to forefoot years ago and havent been injured since! Got faster too!

I was looking for a daily/ weekly runner vlogger as I transition from body building back to running and I found your videos very interesting!

This was really helpful! I particularly enjoyed the segment where you told us not to do the salsa. XD Great stuff!

Nice video! What pair of HOKA's are those??
Great video! You have a great setup , which treadmill are you using?
I find it hard to do baby strides and get my like kick high at all
Great video. Thank you!
thank you!!
Ugh! I can keep 175-185 cadence on treadmill and have good form but outdoors I can’t control my pace which leads to bad form/low cadence
Great Video Hellah! This must be like the 8th video I’ve ever watched about running form. 😂
thank you Eduardo!! haha good! doing your research
great tips! so useful!
thanks Karan!
Just got my running shoes, learned proper form, now I’m ready to fly.
You are an inspiration! Keep up the great work… Is that the NordicTrack 32i? How many times a week do you run on the treadmill?
great content bro

Great video. Is that the X32i Treadmill?
Good tips. Do you know what causes the foot to turn out?
Best advice I've ever watched
thank you so much!
Ayyy my boy what dem shoes called? Also thanks for tips
You got it! They’re the hoka carbon x3 - coming soon!

Very insightful and keep up the great work, how big are your calves if you don't mind me asking?

This is something I’m working on. I’m trying to improve mobility and hamstring strength to do this better.
So try to almost do butt kicks while running? I’m trying to fix my foot turning out and sometime my leg kinda swings out.
