- Kayabuki, the Izakaya (Japanese Tavern) where monkeys serve you beer and towels! located about a $20 taxi ride from Utsunomiya Station in Tochigi Prefecture of Japan. About 2 hours north of Tokyo. This is a tiny place with really friendly owners and fun monkeys!!

Dont worry, the monkeys arent mistreated. They were originally wild and decided to work there themselves, they get paid in soybeans like you see in the video.

Not a chimp. These are Macaques. Old World Monkeys. Chimps are part of the Great Ape family.
I'm sure annoying animal people will say these monkeys should be in the wild... etc etc... But they seem healthy and happy and have plenty of mental stimulation and other monkey friends around. They're probably living a good monkey life there.
I like how everyone just treats it like it's normal.

I'm always very skeptical about un-domesticated animals performing tricks, but I think this particular monkey is not being abused.
He is the only monkey (macaque) I know of that is NOT ON A LEASH, and allowed to go outside to climb a tree to eat the persimmons. I was amazed.
Animals, especially un-domesticated animals are very honest about their feelings, and if this monkey was indeed in torment as some of the comments say, he would have shown signs of stress, and he would have ran away a long time ago in the first place.
I can understand where you guys are coming from, but it would help if you don't just instantly come to conclusions without second thought or observation.
(I'm not a monkey expert so sorry if this actually was animal abuse.)
You are right. He goes outside. He comes and goes as he pleases, so where's the abuse. People need to stop harassing this guy and let him be.

I am against animal abuse, but I would have no problem patronizing his business. This monkey looks happy and well groomed. I think he has it better than his cousins in the wild.
The only way a monkey will walk upright like this all the time is by abuse. They tie their hands behind their back so they will walk this for years. That’s torture.
I would never attend this restaurant. It’s so sad.

I work in an Izakaya myself and I love going to other Izakayas. For me, I really love small places this like. And this little server is just too adorable to not visit.

+Ant Thony they only work 2 hours a day... so chillax its like a "sport activity" for them they have a pretty good life for an animal. they cant get killed by other animals and cant get shot by some hunters.

I feel bad about the show, but serving i think it wouod be alright, like when you teach a dog to chase the ball. But since they can only work 2h a day i think its cool if they are feeded and well treated.
