      15 years ago Sigma lenses were a joke. Now the joke is on Canon, Nikon, and anyone else Sigma makes a lens for. Maybe the difference is Japanese excellence. The big makers are going to cheaper manufacturing sites. Just a guess.

    Excellent complete comparison. I personally shoot with the 7artisans 50mm F0.95 and have similar results. Up close is soft, but stepping back this lens is sharp!! Specially after stepping down to F1.4-F2.8 crazy sharpness with lovely rounded bokeh. Most lenses in with similar spec suffer from cats eye bokeh.

    i really miss that 56mm 1.4 - for client work i switched to FF and sold all APSC stuff and first got the FE85mm 1.8 which still is a great lens but somehow does not give me the same vibe - now iam on the 85mm 1.4 dg dn and it finally gives me the same feel. as my wife has a fuji and it is her travel body i'm now aiming for a X-T30II BUT i will only buy it when sigma will bring out this small and sharp beauty to X-Mount - can't wait!

    Nice outcome. The 7Artisans .95 has other benefits. I watched a video that tested the sensitivity of the .95, and I think that is amazing. So if I were to choose, I would take that .95 because of the low light results.

    I bought the Megadap ETZ11 adapter which can use Sony E mount lenses on the Nikon Z cameras. Especially for the DX/APSC models Z50 and Zfc. I own the Sony A6100 and have the Sigma Trinity Primes F1.4 and they work great. My favorite is the 56mm. Comparing it to the 85mm F1.8 S Full Frame/FX Prime they are great. The Nikon APSC have only two lenses and now I do not have to buy any lenses. Autofocusing is fast and there was a little trouble in updating the firmware for the adapter but I am very satisfied with my purchase.

    First of all, that was a LOT of pictures. Your wife gets a gold star for patience.
    Secondly, it seemed that all of the manual focus lenses were colder (blue-greenish) than the Sigma 55mm. Maybe they'd be better with an old-fashioned skylight filter, or a small warm adjustment to the white balance.

    The vintage pentacon 50mm ƒ1.8, M42 mount
    i did a similar thing when i was asked of all the lenses i own if you could only keep one what would it be, the overall winner was the sigma 100-400mm but heres the thing, when i put all my primes up against each other which included the sigma 56mm canon 32mm some sigma art primes like the 105mmƒ1.4 etc the final two battling it out for best of the primes ( i have M50 camera) was the canon efm 32mm ƒ1.4 and the vintage pentacon 50mm ƒ1.8
    the reason the fully manual pentacon held on for so long was the renders it gives, yes its slower to focus than the modern canon meaning less chance to get fast moving stuff but when i look at the images i get from the pentacon they make me smile so much more than the images from any other lens.
    the sigma 100-400 won over all because i cant do long wildlife with the 50mm or the 32mm, but there you are a £30 vintage lens genuinely fighting it out for top spot on the primes,
    i do use the sigma 56mm alot for portraits, if i'm doing black and white i usually bump the iso up high (6400+) on the M50 to both soften the sharpness of the lens in camera and to give a pleasing soft grain, i much prefer doing it that way than in post, its a fantastic lens, no need for an EF 50 one on an M body,

    You should test the Viltrox 56mm f1.7. Half a stop of light less but sharper across the board than the Sigma according to all tests out there. Sigma is dethroned for under $200, at least in the sharpness department.

  • @donaldklopper
    @donaldklopper 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Autofocus just simply beats manual focus all the way. I cannot nail manual focus with regularity, so at double the price of the manual competition I'd still pick the Sigma. Going at under $400 now. No brainer.

    @danncorbit3623 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    For lens reviews: Christopher Frost, Arthur R, Dustin Abbott. I thank all three for your excellent work, because none are better (don't bother looking elsewhere). Before I buy a lens, I check those great opinions. Please, do not forget to review DSLR lenses. I have no plans whatsoever to buy an expensive mirrorless camera (OK, I have a Canon M, but that does not count). No Nikon Z or Canon R are in my near term plans. I see a lot of reviews for lenses for those cameras. Nobody has them yet, so I guess it is interesting to those who plan to buy them or who already have them. But do not forget those millions of us who have no plans to upgrade for five years. I have a Canon 5DS. I also have a Nikon D610. I am very, very satisified with these cameras. It would be lunacy to abandon them, with my giant collection of Canon and Nikon lenses that match. You must chase the money, and I approve of that. But consider the millions who see no need to upgrade, whatsoever. BTW, your review of the Sigma 56 and Christopher's convinced me to buy it. For mirrorless lenses, the adoption will be slow. IMO-YMMV

    • @danncorbit3623
      @danncorbit3623 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      P.S. I think that the after-market lens makers are stupid to follow the mirrorless trend. Where is the market in total volume of users? If you want to sell a million lenses what should you do? They should have no loyalty to the camera manufacturers. In fact, Canon and Nikon try to hide there inner workings and make them reverse engineer. They should make great lenses for the millions of cameras that everyone already has. But that is just common sense speaking. No marketing bologna behind that.

    Man, you could have stopped purchasing Chinese cheap glass and get instead a decent 50mm from Fuji, Voigtlander or Zeiss.

    Am I the only one who hates the overly contrasty look of the sigma?

    Nothing unique about the octagonal bokeh balls, it's obviously because of the blades themselves, and it's a mark of poor lens design. You also mention sharpness a lot, but it's not the most important aspect of a lens. In your case, a "dreamier" lens could even help hide your wife's bad/porous skin.
