It looks so awesome, if you sell that in a store, I'd definitely buy it. It's also easy to do. Great job! I love how it has the spooky factor without looking too tacky.
Quick tip Pop the tea light inside unlit, then light a long piece of uncooked spaghetti. Use the spaghetti to reach into the lantern safely and easily, light the candle then just blow out the spaghetti and dispose of it :)
We started making these tonight! Ours are needing a couple coats of the blackboard paint to be sure the glass is covered completely. We are using jars instead of glasses and they are working quite well. Tomorrow morning, we will add the chalk and hairspray. I am very excited to see the final result!
Just posted this craft on my IG account!! My nieces and nephew LOVED it. The glue-gun was a bit challenging, but the task is competed, lol! Thanks so much!!
this is so creative and cool. not like those other diy Halloween decor videos.. this is very unique and its a very good idea. I loved it tha k you. I'm definitely subscribing,😊
I have a one gallon jar that I made, I put water safe Mod Podge on it so it will be protected from the weather on my front porch, but instead of chalk I dry brushed white paint on it, Such a cool Idea.. !!
I think it would be a good idea to use one of those battery-operated mini candles inside the glass instead of a real candle because the heat from the real candle could make the glue re-activate/melt and ooze out from points where the paint hadn't completely covered it. Also, I concern how the flame and heat would react with any of the flammable sealants (especially that hairspray)~ Really neat look though! :D
I've done one of these in there so awesome what's the type of chalk that you're using I'm finding it difficult to get that texture on it with regular chalk and that looks like it's a different brand but I can't tell
I love all of your DIY halloween tips, but I will actually noy use these for only halloween! They will fit in with my every day decor as well, so much fun!
I love these and already had most of what I needed. I went to buy the paint and bought chalk paint thinking it was the same thing as chalkboard paint but apparently it's not. Do you know if it will work the same way?
Love it! You could also use some of those clear or translucent tall plastic deli containers for this - save the lids so you can seal them for outdoors use - & load the bottom with gravel or small rocks to keep them stable if it gets windy.
This looks awesome! I really want to try this! What besides hairspray could you recommend to permanently seal it with? Modge Podge might rub off the chalk. Thanks.
