Ive been a residential plumbing apprentice for 6 months now but I’ve been doing some furnace and AC installs with some of our hvac installers for a few weeks and my first one I did, my supervisor showed me this video because he was trying to get me to switch from plumbing to HVAC and this shit was fucking hilarious. First of all pay rates vary vastly depending on what part of the country/world u live in and your level of knowledge/skill. Most companies that have their shit together will base you off of being a profitable tech or a dipshit who goes behind the good guys and does the repairs. I’m a senior service technician and manager for a commercial contractor in the Midwest and I’ve been in a service van that I take home every day for 15 years and I love it. Once u get to the top of the food chain you no longer deal with the shit work that apprentices or dumb asses do. I work 8 hours a day and I’m home every night and earn a pretty good living. If you don’t like being in a van every day u can always go work as a tech support for a manufacturer or work your way into management. In hvac I feel like there are plenty of alternate job paths u can take, Service Sheet metal/installer Service manager Install manager Energy management Industrial/process heating/cooling Manufacturing Refrigeration Tech support Project management Estimator Sales To name a few. . . @@JermyMoreno They are both good trades but would caution you about the tole it can take on your body being in the trades. I had to come off the road after 30 years due to arthritis. If you can, try to get in with a good company that has some sort of pension plan? Most trades people can not work fully until retirement. Or plan ahead to get into management and be the one who is mentoring the techs. Maybe start your own company after you get licenced. Good luck!

Austin Community College has starting pay listed at $28k, Normal $41k, High $66k. I don't understand why I hear people making huge bucks but look into it and see stuff much less then that. The average pay in Texas is something like $33k. Where I'm at that's difficult to buy a house with pre pandemic.

I have had to wire simple fan relays for master electricians. Hvac techs are generally more skilled eletricans than “most" actual electricians. Plus we have to plumb, heat load calculations, master refrigeration and air flow issues. I wish all we had to worry about is ohms law proper wire sizing and a few codes! Electricians cant hold a true hvac tech's jock strap!!!
