- 4:57 with the decade old route has been achieved! The first WR with this route was AndrewG's 4:58.159 from 7/1/2013. However, the first 4:57 was with BBG instead of 2 bump 4-2, so I thought achieving this would be a fun challenge since it was never featured in the first 4:57. For this particular route, I believe I'm the first person to achieve a 4:57 with these exact strats, but I could be wrong. Either way, it was very fun going back to the old 2 bump 4-2 strat a decade later to see the challenge runners had to face at that time. Shoutouts to Kosmic for giving me the idea to go for this!

Niftski isn't just setting records in the present. He's going back in time and setting records from ten years ago.
Can't wait for Niftski to go back every year since 2000 and beat the world record holders using the strategy they used for the record.

That involves using older operating systems like Windows 2000, Windows XP SP1, and the operating systems the first SMB speedrunners used.

Despite the fact that i started playing games in late 90s early 2000s, i didn't know speedrunning existed until about 2012, so this is set back to around the time that i found out what speedrunning was.

most of those aren't frame perfect, if you hold D+R while jumping when mario is backwards, mario doesn't turn back to the right

2:19 is lowkey my favourite part of this video. You even used the old turnaround method here which is less reliable, but you were really committing to the old strats. Love this.
Did he just casually get the infamous 2-bump Fast 4-2?
I mean for a guy that's gotten Lightning 4-2 in a WR it's not like it should be *that* big of a deal, but it's just crazy to me that he's not even using Blazit and can just casually nail a trick that used to completely destroy runners like Darbian and AndrewG and almost killed the category...and then blazit came along and it was seen as this GODSEND which made all things possible. But now Niftski's just like "Blazit? Nah, that's too modern for this run, I'll just use the 2-bump" and does it without a second thought.
Eventually, in 2025, after the top clip is mastered and used for Lightning 4-2, the top clip is called Hyper Blazit x 4-2G, and then there will be 4:55.4xx times using Kosmic's first 4:55 route (FPG, Get 347, Return of FPG, Pipe Dream, Judges?, BBG, FPG strikes back, Peace is paved)

Man its so nice to see someone tackle this route again. I sometimes do it myself just for fun. Its brutal hard but you have to admit the two bump method is so satisfying to pull off. Well done Niftski as always!

the only hard part about this was fast 4-2 with 2 bump, the rest was essentially just a low 4:58 which isn't bad for me at all

Low key I appreciate the fact that he spaces out his any % grinds by several months in between. There’s really no reason to rush it. We will get .5 in 2024 and .4 in 2025 and then we’re gonna start running out of any% and the day will come where we wish we had more of it. Might as well savor it while we still can lol

it's actually way simpler than it looks to keep mario backwards like that, all you do is hold D+R and mario will not turn back right, and from there you continually jump to keep him at full speed
@@Niftski I tried to copy some "simple tricks" after watching speedruns of some games and faileld miserable 🙈 When pros speedrun games / levels, it looks so smooth and "easy" but damn.... One only realizes how hard it actually it is, when playing the game. Huge respect Niftski, with pure dedication and skill, u basically made the word impossible not possible in this game, well done ☺

Well, sadly, his computer is broken, so he cannot speedrun and improve his times further until 2026. He picked the full repair, which involved replacing all transistors inside the computer to make it look and function "fresh out of the factory", as every time he did the quick repair, the computer still crashed in a few months, the frequency rate going up every time it got repaired. His last stream ended with, "I think it's GG, it's GG, I can't keep on using this, so let's just go ahead and do this... [Stream ends]"
