- In this video I return to one of my favourite places in Thailand; Khao Yai National Park. I hike the beautiful trail 2. This trail is easy to follow and can be done by anybody with reasonable fitness and mobility. As I hike I tell tales and show pictures and videos of my memories and encounters with wildlife from the past including video I too of a crocodile!
Later myself and @baldybrian camp in the heart of the National Park where I have a very close encounter with the local wildlife. We also take a night safari usiong a spotlight to search for animals in the dark. The video contains great information for anyone planning their own visit to Khao Yai National Park

Brilliant video, Karl. Ithink we got in there at the right time: the sounds were awesome, the jungle just came to life. My favourite trail so far. Loved the fading in on the rock on the cliff, great stuff. The jurassic Park expedition was brilliant too. Awesome weekend, mate.

If we go to a place where we were happy and the same place in our memories Makes us remember old things from yesterday in the same spot.....nature always helps heal our minds. Khao Yai national park is still beautiful and rich in wildlife and trees, waterfalls, canals, and plants. 🤗😊👍🙂🫰❤️🎊🎉🌴🦌

Well that’s the easiest looking trail I think I’ve seen you on. Love the look of the campsite. You were blessed to work there as a guide, we make our own luck in life.
The night time tour must have been what the blitz was like with all those spotlights shooting into the night sky.
I do enjoy those tours but much prefer them away from weekends where they’re much less likely to scare away any self-respecting wildlife lol. Cheers

Love the sound of the birds in Thailand , think the crocodile is long gone now sorry to say maybe they should introduce a few . Nice one again 👍
Yes, it was so much more exciting when the crocodile was there. Some have been introduced to bolster a small, indigenous population in a bordering national park. Cheers

We walked the cliff trail in early March and came across a couple of Serows on the boardwalk. I am not sure how rare they are but it was a thrill for us to see and photograph them,
That’s brilliant. I’ve spent plenty of time in Thai National Parks and have even seen wild tigers twice many years ago but I have never seen a serow before so consider yourselves very fortunate. Cheers

Did this trail a few times in the past years. Love it and love how your video takes me back. Also, in that bend right after the restaurant area I spotted a huge King Cobra

Yes, please do. In Khao Yai it’s better to have your own transportation and do some research before you visit to get the most from your trip. Have a great visit

Yes. It’s the easiest of the proper trails at Khao Yai. A bit of up and down and a few obstacles but if you’re of average mobility it should be do able. Thanks again for shouting my channel

Nightjar; as in Ornithology concerning branch of zoology with emphasis on the study of birds. Several aspects of ornithology differ from related disciplines, due partly to the high visibility and the aesthetic appeal of birds. Thirsty work for a couple of "field trip" experts! Question remains whether this latest safari ended with extinction event discussions over a couple of Night Jars at some notorious local Avery🤣

The idea of a lone crocodile, is rather tragic. A lot of wildlife in SE Asia has been decimated by poaching. Partly for home consumption, partly for transportation north to fill bellies in China. The pressure of tourism has also been quite destructive,
Indeed. I don't think tourism was to blame for the demise of the Siamese Freshwater Crocodile though. It has very particular terrain requirements and was rendered virtually extinct by the locals decades ago. Rumour has it that the one I saw had been released there although one of the NP's in that conservation area does still have a now bolstered, natural population. They are also making an assisted comeback at Bung Boraphet in Nakhon Sawan. Khao Yai has been changed by tourism though and I do miss the days when you could could hear and sometimes even see wild tigers there. Thanks

Trail number two at Khao Yai. Seems like my sort of trail, Karl. I am more interested in birds, wildlife and scenery. I'm not really into macho "going up the side of a mountain" type stuff. I'll leave that to you, you madman! How long did it take to walk the trail? It seemed from your video it was ten minutes, but I am sure it was longer. Was it a circular route, if not, how did you get back to your starting point? Ah, I definately want to get more aquainted and familiar with Khoa Yai. I have been there several times, but it always feels like I am "passing through". Perhaps I have to sleep there to make it feel different to passing through? I am still in Blighty, just getting some things sorted before I come back. Taking a bit longer than I thought, but hey, thats life. Good video.
Cheers Tony. Yes you need to have a plan to get the most out of Khao Yai and most people “just pass through” like you say. I’d say 2 hours is about right for trail 2. I just hitchhike back to wherever the car is. It’s just one road so every car is going your way. It’s acceptable in National Parks. Cheers

If you mean for Khao Yai? You can hire NP rangers. I’d recommend Kammuan, if you book in advance you can ask for him. He has quite a story to tell. He’s the guy I interview in this video Man Fights Tiger at Khao Yai National Park - Incredible Story of Survival

Any snakes?
They have plenty there but you don’t see them that often. I find I see more snakes in and around rural villages, seen plenty in those areas. I did a video with snakes in it a few years ago. Snakes in the title. Cheers
I went to Khao yai just this 13 May and the ranger at the Haew Suwat box told me that the crocs were caught and not anymore let them live there on Lam Takhong. I didn't go to check myself as I believed him. That's my fault of being gullible.
What he told you was probably true. A few months before I saw the crocodile a young Dutch lady tried posing next to the crocodile and got bitten. It was bad publicity for Khao Yai and there were always murmurs that it had been moved. That’s the way they do things here. I don’t think you’re gullible at all, this happened 6 years ago now. Cheers
@@karlsthailand 🧡🧡 I also asked permission to walk to the Khao Laem field crossing the Lam Takhong and denied by ranger too. He said the policy has been changed again and tourist not allowed to trail walk to any ranger stations on Khao Yai freely as I have done sometime ago. Only the permitted easy trails possible. The storm came in too. What a sad day for me 😕😕.
@kittenastrophy5951 Yes, things have changed a lot. That trail to Khao Laem is a mini road now anyway, the same applies to the old trail to Khlong E Tao. A lot of National Parks now don’t want you to hike any of the trails without hiring a local guide, even the easy trails. I can see the aspect of sharing the NP resources with the locals but it’s becoming very expensive at some of them to just walk even the most mundane of trails.

99% of Thai who visited Khao Yai dont bother to enter the trails....they prefer to camp in a comfort zone and eat som tum.....555!!!
